17:1 Արդ՝ մինչդեռ սուրբն Հռիփսիմէ զայս ամենայն աղաւթս առ Աստուած մատուցանէր՝ եկն եմուտ թագաւորն Տրդատ ի ներքս ի սենեակն՝ ուր էրն զնա արգելեալ:	17:1 While saint Rhipsime was offering all these prayers to God, king Trdat entered the chamber where she had been shut up:
17:2 Արդ՝ իբրեւ եկն եմուտ նա ի ներքս՝ առ հասարակ մարդիկն, ոմանք արտաքոյ ապարանիցն, կէսքն ի փողոցս ի ներքսագոյնսն, առ հասարակ երգս առեալ բարբառեցան կայթիւք վազելով, ցուց բարձրեալ մարդկանն. կէսքն ի բերդամիջին, եւ կէսք զքաղաքամէջն լցին խնճոյիւք. առ հասարակ համարէին հարսանեացն զպարսն պարել եւ զկաքաւսն յորդորել:	17:2 Now when he came in, all the populace, some outside the palace, others in the streets, and others inside the city, all together struck up songs [cf. III Macc. 6.23] and dancing. Some filled the citadel, others the center of the town, with merry-making. They all intended to celebrate the wedding with dancing:
17:3 Իսկ Տէր Աստուած նայեցաւ յիւր սիրելին Հռիփսիմէ՝ ապրեցուցանել զնա, զի մի՛ կորիցէ աւանդն որ պահեալ զգուշացեալ էր, եւ լուաւ աղաւթից նորա՝ զաւրացուցանել զնա իբրեւ զՅայէլն եւ իբրեւ զԴեբովրայն. ետ զաւրութիւն նմա, զի ապրեսցի ի ստամբակ բռնութենէ անաւրէնութեանն:	17:3 But the Lord God looked down on his beloved Rhipsime in order to save her, lest the treasure she had preserved so carefully be lost [cf. II Tim. 1.12], and he heard her prayers and fortified her like Jael and like Deborah [cf. Judges 4]. He strengthened her to be saved from the impious tyrant’s grasp:
17:4 Արդ՝ մտեալ թագաւորն՝ բուռն հարկանէր զնմանէն, կատարել զկամս ցանկութեանն:	17:4 The king entered the room and seized her, in order to work his lustful desire:
17:5 Իսկ նա զաւրացեալ լինէր ի Հոգւոյն սրբոյ. գազանաբար ոգորեալ, առնաբար մարտնչէր. իբրեւ յերեք ժամուց սկսեալ մարտնչել մինչեւ ի տասն ժամն՝ պարտեալ լինէր զթագաւորն իսկ զայն, որ անհնարին համարեալ ուժով. որ մինչ ի Յունաց աշխարհին էր՝ բազում ոյժ պնդութեան ոսկերաց ցուցեալ էր, զարմացուցեալ զամենեսեան. եւ ի թագաւորութեանն իսկ, իբրեւ ի հայրենի բնութիւնն դարձեալ էր՝ բազում գործս արութեան քաջութեան եւ անդ ցուցեալ. եւ որ այնպէս հռչակեալ էր ամենայնիւ՝ արդ յաղջկանէ միոջէ պարտեալ վատթարանայր կամաւք եւ զաւրութեամբն Քրիստոսի:	17:5 Rhipsime strengthened by the Holy Spirit, battled like a beast and fought like a man. They fought starting with the third hour and continuing until the tenth hour. The king was defeated - he, whose strength had been regarded as unbelievable. While in the land of the Greeks, he had displayed such strength and stamina, that everyone was astonished. Moreover, even within his own kingdom, when he had returned to his native patrimony, he also had shown many deeds of manly valor there. And now he - so renowned in everything - was defeated and worsted by a single girl, by the will and power of Christ:
17:6 Արդ՝ իբրեւ պարտեցաւ, վաստակեցաւ եւ լքաւ՝ ել նա արտաքս, եւ ետ ածել զերանելին Գայիանէ, եւ արկանել խառան ի պարանոց նորա, եւ ածել ունել զնա առ դուրս սենեկին. եւ ինքն անդրէն ի ներքս մտանէր. եւ եդ բանս ի բերան սպասաւորացն, զի ստիպեսցեն զանհրապոյրն Գայիանէ՝ ասել ի դրաց անտի ի ներքս ի սենեակն առ Հռիփսիմէ, թէ արա՛ զկամս դորա, եւ կեա՛ց դու եւ մեք:	17:6 Now King Trdat, once he had been defeated, tired, and weakened, went out and, putting a collar around her neck, had the blessed Gayane led to the door of the chamber. Then he himself went back into the room. He told the servants to force the defiant Gayane to speak to Rhipsime through the door and to say: “Do his will so that you and I shall live:
17:7 Իսկ նա յանձին կալեալ խաւսել ընդ սանուն իւրում, եւ մատուցեալ ասէ ի դրաց անտի ի ներքս ի սենեակն առ Հռիփսիմէ. «Որդեակ, պահեսցէ՛ զքեզ Քրիստոս ի պղծութենէդ եւ լիցի քեզ զաւրաւիգն. քա՛ւ քեզ, որդեակ, եթէ լիցի քեզ ելանել ի ժառանգութենէ անտի կենացն Աստուծոյ, եւ ժառանգել քեզ զանցաւորս, որ ոչ ինչ իսկ է, այսաւր է, եւ վաղիւն կորնչի:	17:7 She agreed to speak with her protégé, and coming close spoke through the door into the room to Rhipsime: “My child, may Christ save you from this profanation, and may he be your support. Heaven forbid, my child, that you lose the inheritance of the life of God and inherit transitory life, which is nothing today and is lost tomorrow:
17:8 Իբրեւ իմացան, թէ զո՛ր խրատ յաճախեաց մատուցանել՝ բերեալ քարինս՝ հարկանէին զբերանն, մինչեւ թափել ատամանցն. եւ ստիպէին ասել նմա, զի արասցէ զկամս թագաւորին:	17:8 When they realized what kind of advice Gayane was giving, they brought rocks and struck her mouth with them until her teeth fell out, and they tried to force her to tell Rhipsime to do the king’s will:
17:9 Նա եւս քան զեւս պնդէր եւ ասէր. «Քաջալերեա՛ց, պինդ կաց, եւ այժմ տեսանես զՔրիստոս, առ որ անձկացեալն ես:	17:9 But she persisted all the more and note: “Be of good cheer [cf. Matt. 9.22], stand firm [cf. Gal. 5.1], and now you will see Christ for whom you long:
17:10 Յուշ լիցի քեզ, որդեակ, հոգեխառն սնունդն, որով զքեզ սնուցի:	17:10 Remember, my child, the spiritual upbringing in which I raised you:
17:11 Յուշ լիցի քեզ աստուածեղէն խրատն, որով զքեզ պարարեցի:	17:11 Remember the divine instruction with which I nourished you:
17:12 Յուշ լիցին հալածանքն իմ եւ քո ի միասին:	17:12 Remember your and my persecutions together:
17:13 Յուշ լիցի քեզ եւ բաժակ մահուն, զոր ի միասին եմք ընպելոց:	17:13 Remember the cup of death which we have to drink together:
17:14 Յուշ լիցի քեզ եւ յարութիւն ամենայն տիեզերաց:	17:14 Remember the resurrection of the whole world:
17:15 Յուշ լիցի քեզ եւ մեծատանն յանդիմանութիւն:	17:15 Remember the reproach of the rich man:
17:16 Յուշ լիցի քեզ այրումն յաւիտենական գեհենին տանջանաց:	17:16 Remember the fire of the torments of eternal hell:
17:17 Յուշ լիցի քեզ անապական պարգեւքն արդարոց, զոր եւ մեզն է պատրաստեալ:	17:17 Remember the incorruptible rewards of the just which he has also prepared for us:
17:18 Յուշ լիցի քեզ աստուածեղէն բարբառն երկնաւոր, զոր լուար իսկ դու քեզէն քոյովք ականջաւք յայսմ աւուր. որ քաջալերեաց եւ զաւրացոյց զքեզ մեաւք հանդերձ՝ նոյն եւ արժանիս արասցէ պսակին եւ հանգստեանն զոր խոստացաւ. եւ զաւրացուսցէ զքեզ մեաւք հանդերձ, զի լիցուք բնակիչք Աստուծոյ լուսեղէն յարկացն յաւիտենականաց բնակութեան:	17:18 Remember the divine voice from heaven which you yourself heard divine voice from heaven which you yourself heard with your own ears today, which encouraged and strengthened you and us also; the same will also make us worthy of the crown and the rest which it promised, and will strengthen you and us, so that we may dwell in God’s eternal habitations of light:
17:19 Այլ Տէր մեր եւ թագաւոր մեր եւ Աստուած մեր, որ վասն մեր խոնարհեցաւ յանարգութիւն, մի՛ թողցէ զմեզ անարգս, զի զաւրութեանց նորա ցանկացաք. փրկիչն աշխարհաց աւգնեսցէ մեզ, որ ոչ եթող ընդ վայր զմեզ զյուսացեալս իւր, եւ արժանիս համարեցաւ իւրոց բանիցն՝ քաջալերութիւն տալոյ:	17:19 But our Lord and King and God, who for our sake was humbled to disgrace [cf. Phil. 2.8], may he not leave us despised [cf. I Cor. 4.10] because we desired his power. May the savior of the world help us, who did not helplessly abandon us who hoped in him but considered us worthy of comfort by his words:
17:20 Զի նա անարգամեծար Տէր է, եւ նա ինքնին պահեսցէ զմեզ զաղախնեայս իւր յամենայն մեղաց. որպէս եւ այսաւր իսկ լուաք, զի էր պահեալ զմեզ ամենազաւր աջոյն, եւ պահեսցէ զմեզ մինչեւ յաւիտեան. բայց միայն ի սիրոյ նորա մի՛ մեկնեսցուք:	17:20 For he is the Lord who glorifies the humbled, and may he keep us his handmaidens from all sin, as we heard today. For his almighty right hand has preserved us, and will preserve us for eternity. But only let us not be deprived of his love:
17:21 Այլ զարթուսցէ զզաւրութիւնս իւր, եւ եկեսցէ կեցուսցէ զմեզ, եւ մեք զանուն Տեառն կարդասցուք. երեւեցուսցէ զերեսս իւր ի մեզ, եւ կեցցուք. զի նա է Աստուած փրկիչ մեր. վասն նորա համբերեցաք զաւրհանապազ:	17:21 But may he arouse his hosts and come and rescue us [cf. Ps. 79.3-4]; and we shall invoke the name of the Lord [cf. Ps. 79.19], Let him reveal his face to us and we shall live [cf. Ps. 79.20]. For he is God our savior, and for his sake we shall endure forever:
17:22 Յո՛ւշ լիցի քեզ Տէրն, որ վասն զմեզ բարձրացուցանելոյ խոնարհեցաւ, եւ հեղ զարիւն իւր ի վերայ խաչին. վասն կենաց մերոց եւ փրկութեան մերոյ ի մահ վիրաւորեցաւ:	17:22 Remember the Lord who was humbled in order to raise us up, and who shed his own blood on the cross; for our lives and salvation he was wounded to death:
17:23 Դի՛ր զնա ի մտի քում, եւ կարդա՛ սրտիւ քով զնա. ահա հասեալ է քեզ յաւգնականութիւն, եւ զաւրացուսցէ զբազուկս քո, որպէս զմանկանն Դաւթի ի վերայ արջոցն եւ առիւծուցն, որ իբրեւ զուլս այծեաց ճեղքեալ բեկանէր:	17:23 Recall him and invoke his name in your heart. Behold, he has come to help you, and will strengthen your arms like those of the young David against bears and lions, who struck and broke them like kids:
17:24 Նա եւ որ զանարի հսկայն ջարդեաց ի ձեռն ծառայի իւրոյ Դաւթի՝ նոյն խորտակեսցէ զչարութիւն անաւրէնութեան դորա առաջի քո:	17:24 Similarly, he who destroyed the ignoble giant through his servant David [cf. I Kings 17.50], the same will break this evil impiety before you:
17:25 Դուստր մարգարէութեան հաւատոցն Դաւթի եւ սնեալ յարդարութեան ի վերայ բազկաց իմոց. առաջի սուրբ եւ փառաւորեալ սեղանոյն Աստուծոյ սնար դու աղախին Քրիստոսի. այն որ այսաւր իսկ յայտնութեամբ՝ գթութեամբ եւ մարդասիրութեամբ իւրով յայտնեցաւ մեզ, որ իմաստութեամբն խնդրեցաք զնա՝ նոյն տացէ քեզ մեաւք հանդերձ առանց ամաւթոյ տեսանել զնա դէմ յանդիման:	17:25 Daughter of the prophetic faith of David, brought up in justice in my arms, you were raised before the holy and glorious altar of God as a handmaid of Christ. He who today in his mercy and benevolence appeared in a revelation to us who piously beseeched him, the same will grant you and us to see him face to face [cf. I Cor. 13.12] without shame:
17:26 Արդ՝ զայս ամենայն խաւսեցաւ սուրբն Գայիանէ ի բարբառ Հռոմայեցւոց ընդ իւրում սանուն ի դրաց սենեկին, մինչդեռ թագաւորն ոգորէր ընդ սրբոյն Հռիփսիմեայ:	17:26 Now saint Gayane had said all this in the language of the Romans, speaking at the door to her protégé, while the king was struggling with saint Rhipsime:
17:27 Բայց գոյին անդ ոմանք ի սպասաւորացն արքունի, որ լսէին զայն ամենայն ի բարբառ Հռոմայեցւոց:	17:27 There were some present among the servants of the court who heard and understood everything which had been said in the language of the Romans:
17:28 Եւ արդ՝ իբրեւ լուաւ զայն ամենայն, զոր խաւսեցաւն Գայիանէ ընդ սանուն իւրում՝ ի բաց առին զնա ի դրաց անտի:	17:28 When they heard all that Gayane was saying to her protégé, they removed her from the door:
17:29 Զի թէպէտ եւ բազում անգամ հարին զնա, եւ ծեծեցին քարամբք զերեսս նորա, եւ թափեցին զատամունս նորա, եւ ջարդեցին զմսուր բերանոյ լնդաց նորա՝ սակայն ոչ շրջեաց զբանս իւր՝ խաւսել ընդ աղջկանն այլ ինչ. այլ զոր սկիզբն արարեալ էր բանիցն իւրոց առաջնոց՝ զնոյն յաճախեալ բազմացուցանէր:	17:29 Although they frequently struck her and hit her face with stones, and knocked her teeth out, and broke her jaws, still she did not deviate a single word in what she was saying to the girl. Rather, she redoubled her efforts in the same tenor, using the very same words as before:
17:30 Իսկ նա մարտեաւ եւս ընդ նմա ի տասն ժամէ աւուրն մինչեւ ի պահ մի գիշերոյն, պարտեաց զթագաւորն:	17:30 Meanwhile Rhipsime was still fighting with King Trdat from the tenth hour of the day until the first watch of the evening, and she defeated him:
17:31 Եւ զաւրացեալ լինէր աղջիկն ի Հոգւոյն սրբոյ. հարեալ վանեալ պարտեալ, վաստակաբեկ առնելով զթագաւորն՝ մեղկեալ ընկենոյր:	17:31 The girl was fortified by the Holy Spirit. She hit, chased, exhausted, and defeated the king, who fell to the ground:
17:32 Մերկ կողոպուտ եւս ի հանդերձից զթագաւորն կացուցանէր, եւ զպատմուճանն պատառեալ եւ զնշան թագին ցրուեալ կողոպտեալ՝ ամաւթալից թողոյր:	17:32 She also stripped the clothes off the king, ripped his robe, tossed aside his crown and left him covered with shame:
17:33 Զի թէպէտ եւ զիւր զգեստիկն քճքճեալ պատառատուն ի նմանէն ի դուրս բերէր՝ սակայն յաղթող պահէր զանձն իւր սրբութեամբ:	17:33 Even though Rhipsime’s own clothes had been torn to shreds by him, she emerged from there, triumphantly retaining her sanctity:
17:34 Եւ բացեալ զդուրս տանն բռնաբար՝ ի դուրս ելանէր, հերձեալ զամբոխ մարդկանն. եւ ոչ ուրուք կարացեալ յաղթահարել զնա:	17:34 Forcibly opening the doors of the dwelling, she came outside, cutting through the crowd of people. Nor could anyone subdue her:
17:35 Եւ ընթացեալ ընդ քաղաքամէջսն՝ ելանէր ընդ արեւելս կոյս, ընդ Արեգ դուռն քաղաքին:	17:35 She went through the midst of the city, going up through the eastern side, through the Sun Areg gate of the city:
17:36 Երթեալ առ հնձանաւքն, ուր էինն իսկ յառաջ վանք իւրեանց՝ ձայն աւետեաց մատուցանէր ընկերացն. եւ ինքն անցանէր հարուստ մի ի քաղաքէն ի կողմն մի հիւսիսոյ, ի տեղի մի յարեւելս կոյս, ի սարաւանդակ ի բարձրաւանդակ յաւազին տեղի մի, մաւտ ի բուն պողոտայն, որ երթայր յԱրտաշատ քաղաք:	17:36 She went to the wine press where their former retreat had been, and told the glad tidings to her companions. Then she went a long distance from the city, to the northeast, to a sandy elevated area close to the main thoroughfare which went on to Artashat city:
17:37 Իբրեւ եհաս յայն տեղի՝ ծունր եդեալ կայր յաղաւթս եւ ասէր. «Տէր ամենայնի, ո՞ կարիցէ հատուցանել քեզ փոխանակ բարեացն, որ ի քէն շնորհեցաւ մեզ. զի պահեցեր զյոյս մեր հաստատուն որ ի քեզ էր. եւ ապրեցուցեր զմեզ ի պղծալից ժանեաց գազանին որ ապականէրն զմեզ:	17:37 When she arrived there, she knelt down in prayer and note: “Lord of all, who could repay you for the blessings which have been granted us by you? For you have kept firm the hope we had in you, and you have saved us from the filthy teeth of the wild beast who would have ravaged us:
17:38 Այլ զի՞նչ եւս կայցէ ի մեզ կար՝ փոխարէնս հատուցանել քեզ. բայց անձինք մեր լիցին փոխանակ փրկութեան քում. զի դու ինքն արժանիս արարեր զմեզ արբանեկութեան, կրել զանունդ քո, որով ապրեցուցեր զմեզ. զի բայց ի քէն, Տէր, զայլ ոչ ոք գիտեմք, եւ զանուն քո անուանեմք զաւր հանապազ:	17:38 But what more could we offer you in return save our souls in thanks for your salvation. For you have made us worthy of your service, to bear your name wherewith you saved us. For save you, Lord, none other do we know, and we invoke your name all the day:
17:39 Այլ մեզ լաւ է մեռանել ի սրբութեան քում, քան թէ ձգիցեմք զձեռս մեր յաստուածս աւտարս, որ չ իցեն իսկ. այլ ոչ ինչ իսկ են ամենայն պաշտամունք հեթանոսաց. զի դու ես արարիչ, եւ ամենայն ի քէն է եւ Որդւովդ քո միածնաւ, առանց որոյ եղեւ եւ ոչինչ, եւ Հոգիդ քո բարի առաջնորդեսցէ մեզ յերկիր ուղիղ, որ տանի զմեզ ի բարութիւնսն յաւիտենականսն յերկրաւորսն:	17:39 But it is better for us to die in our purity than to stretch out our hands to foreign gods who really do not exist. All the cults of the heathen are but nothing. For you are the creator, and everything is from you and through your only-begotten Son, without whom nothing at all was made [cf. Jn. 1.3]. And ’your good Spirit will lead us in a straight land’ [Ps. 142.10], who will bring us to the eternal and heavenly blessings:
17:40 Որոյ յանդիման լինելոց եմք առաջի միածնիդ քոյ. զի առանց ամաւթոյ կայցեմք ի կողմն աջակողմանն, յորժամ առաքեսցես զդա ի պատրաստ լուսոյ բնակութենէդ հայել յամենայն բնակիչս երկրի:	17:40 We must come before your only-begotten Son, to stand without shame on the right-hand side [cf. Matt. 25.33], when you will send him ’from your prepared habitation of light to look on all the inhabitants of the earth’:
17:41 Որ ստեղծ իսկ զսիրտս որդւոց մարդկան, որ ի միտ առնու զամենայն գործս նոցա:	17:41 He created the hearts of the sons of men, and he considers all their deeds:
17:42 Զի եւ մեք ի ժողովրդենէ քումմէ եմք եւ ի խաշնէ արաւտի քոյ. մտցուք ի յարկսդ, զոր պատրաստեցեր սիրելեաց քոց:	17:42 For we are from your people and from the flock of your pasture [cf. Ps. 78.13]; let us enter the mansions which you have prepared for your beloved:
17:43 Փութամք, Տէր, զի ելցուք ի մարմնոյս, զի խառնեսցուք ի գունդ միածնի Որդւոյդ քոյ սիրելւոյ, եւ ի թիւ այնոցիկ, որ սիրեցին զաւր երեւելոյ գալստեան Տեառն մերոյ Յիսուսի Քրիստոսի:	17:43 Let us hasten, Lord, to leave this body in order to be joined to the company of your beloved only-begotten Son and to the number of those who have loved the day of the revelation and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:
17:44 Ի պղծութենէս եւեթ ապրեսցուք. այլ եթէ եկեսցեն տանջանք ի վերայ մեր վասն անուան քոյ՝ պատրաստ եմք:	17:44 Only let us be saved from this profanation. But if there come upon us torments for your name’s sake [cf. Matt. 5.11; Jn. 15.20], we are ready:
17:45 Զի ոչ զրկես դու զմեզ. զի դու, Տէր, ինքնին վկայես ինձ, զի վարուց երկրակեաց կենացս ես ինչ ոչ ցանկացայ ի մանկութենէ իմմէ. վասն զի նայեցայ եւ հաւատացի բանի քում զոր ասացեր, թէ Վա՜յ իցէ ձեզ, յորժամ բարի ասիցեն զձէնջ մարդիկ. այլ Երանի է ձեզ, յորժամ նախատիցեն զձեզ եւ հալածիցեն, եւ ասիցեն զամենայն բան չար սուտ զձէնջ վասն իմ. ցնծացէ՛ք եւ ուրախ լերուք:	17:45 For you will not abandon us; since you, Lord, yourself bear me witness that from my youth I have had no desire at all for earthly life. Because I had regard for and faith in your saying: ’Woe to you when men will say good about you’ [Lk. 6.26], but ’Blessed are you when they will insult and persecute you and will make every wicked and false accusation against you for my sake; rejoice and be glad! ’:
17:46 Արդարեւ իսկ, Տէր, ցնծացաք եւ ուրախ եղաք ընդ այս պատերազմ որ եհաս մեզ, մարտնչել սիրով քով. զի յաղթեաց յաղթող զաւրութիւնդ քո, եւ ետ մեզ յաղթել:	17:46 Truly, Lord, we rejoiced and were glad at this struggle, which has overtaken us, to fight by your love. Because your victorious power has won, and given us the victory:
17:47 Ուրախ եղաք ընդ այս փոխանակ աւուրցս, որ խոնարհ արարին զմեզ, եւ ամացս, յորս տեսաք զչարչարանս:	17:47 We were glad for these days that cast us low, and for these months in which we have seen torments:
17:48 Հայեա՛ց, Տէր, ի ժառանգութիւն քո եւ ի գործս ձեռաց քոց, եւ առաջնորդեա՛ մեզ ի վերին քաղաքդ քո Երուսաղէմ որ ի բարձունսդ է, ուր ժողովելոցդ ես զամենայն արդարս, զսուրբս եւ զսիրելիս անուան քոյ. եղիցի լոյս տեառն Աստուծոյ ի վերայ մեր:	17:48 Look down, Lord, on your inheritance and on the works of your hands, and lead us to your celestial city, Jerusalem, which is in the heights [cf. Gal. 4.26], where you will gather all the just, the saints and those who loved your name. Let the light of the Lord God be over us:
