46:0 Յաղագս կոտորելոյ Յուսփայ զանձնատուր իշխանսն, ընդ որս եւ զՄուշեղ:

 46:0 Yusuf Puts to Execution the Princes that Surrendered, as Well as Mushegh:

46:1 Եւ արդ՝ ես այսուհետեւ դարձեալ դարձուցից անդրէն զբանս իմ յողբս եւ թախծեալ սրտիւ ոչ դանդաղեցայց ի խորհուրդ առնուլ ի մերոցս վտանգաւոր կրից զթռուցեալ գերանդին ընդ օդս՝ ի Զաքարիայ առածութեանցն, զսուրն երկսայրի՝ զսրբեալն արեամբ որդւոց երկրիս մերոյ՝ զբազմախողխողն զառաքեալն ի վրէժխնդրութիւն գողոց եւ գողակցաց, ստոց եւ ստերդմանց:

 46:1 Henceforth, once again I shall turn my words into laments, and with a sad heart shall not hesitate to consider the perilous toils that came upon us, namely the sickle flying through the air in accordance with Zacharias, and the double-edged sword purified with the blood of the children of our land, which slaughtered many and was sent to inflict vengeance on thieves, as well as the accomplices of the latter, liars and perjurers:

46:2 ըստ որում եւ տեսեալ իսկ եղեւ մեզ յերեսաց հարաւոյ բորբոքեալ չարիք եւ յոգնածախող տանջանարանք յորդիս ժողովրդոց մերոց. որք եւ հարան իսկ եւ խղխայթեցան սովով եւ սրով եւ խարդաւանական դրժողութեամբ մինչ ի մարմին եւ յոսկերս եւ յուղեղս թափանցանց բերեալ:

 46:2 In this way we witnessed the spread of the wickedness that came from the south, and the exhausting tortures that were suffered by the children of our people, who were struck with famine, the sword as well as insidious snares to the degree, that (their torments) penetrated into their bodies, bones and minds:

46:3 Մի՛ անտեսեսցի ինձ աստանօր եւ միւս մարգարէութիւնն, որ իբրեւ զինձ պատահեալ ասէ յուղւոջ այնոցիկ, որք չարութեամբ են զգածեալք՝ իբրեւ յայնժամ ուրեմն երբեմն զկռամոլ Ասորեստանեայսն:

 46:3 At this point, let me not disregard also the other prophesy whereby, “I will meet them (...] like a panther, and those that are clad in wickedness, I will meet them by the way of the idolatrous Assyrians of old:

46:4 Յառաջ կացցէ ինձ աստ եւ Մովսէս՝ այրն Աստուծոյ, որ զհատուցումն գործոց վրիժուց մերոց հրապարակագոյժ առնէ յաւուր վրիժուց խնդութեան մերոյ՝ փայլակնաբար իմն սրեալ սուսերին ի վերայ հասանիլ եւ յագուրդ ոչ առնուլ առ ի յուտել զմարմինս վիրաւորաց գերելոց գլխոց իշխանաց մերոց:

 46:4 Also, Moses, the man of God will confront me, and publicly announce to us the sad news of the vengeful retribution for our acts on the day of retaliation, when the sword sharpened like lightening will come upon and insatiably devour the bodies of our chief princes who are wounded in captivity:

46:5 Զի որք երբեմն ի բարձրագոյն աստիճանս նստէին եւ ի խորանս պետականս վերամբարձ ճոխանային, արդ աւադիկ խարդաւանեալք դիւրադաւ եղեն եւ պարտաւորք մահուն տուգանաց ի չար ոստիկանէն:

 46:5 For those who formerly occupied seats in the highest places, and were highly exalted in the royal court, were easily deceived by the wicked ostikan, who made them pay their penalty by death:

46:6 Վասն զի զոմանս եւ ի մետաղս բանտից բերեալ՝ տակաւին դատէր սրով եւ սովով եւ գանիւ. իսկ զոմանս, զոր եւ պատուաւորս առ ի յինքենէ թուեցուցանէր տեսողացն՝ զնոսա ի ծածուկ խարդաւանէր մահու պարտաւորութեամբ: Ըստ որում նախ դատեալ դրժեացն ի գաղտնի զիշխանն Գրիգոր, զՀայկազունսն զարմիւ եւ զքեռորդին արքային Սմբատայ, որ ըստ նախապատմեալ իմոյ բանին անձնտու լեալ էր ի ծառայութիւն նմա, զոր դեղըմպութեամբ մահու ողողեալ զորովայն նորա՝ այնպէս տագնապաւ տարակուսից վախճանէր. տարեալ թաղեալ զնա ի ձեռակերտ իւր ի սրբարանին Սուրբ Շիմոնեայ:

 46:6 Confining some in prison, he gradually executed them by sword, starvation and clubbing; the others, who he made believe were men respected by him, he condemned to death secretly. Thus, he first betrayed prince Grigor, descended from Hayk, and the son of king Smbat’s sister. In accordance with my earlier account, he had submitted to Yusuf ’s service. The latter gave him a deathly poison to drink, as a result of which the prince died in agony. His body was taken and buried in the sanctuary of Saint Simon, which had been built by him:

46:7 Սոյնպէս եւ զքաջարի մանուկն Մուշեղ՝ որդի արքային Սմբատայ, որ ըստ նենգ գործելոյ ի բնակչաց Ուտի գաւառի ձերբակալ եղեւ, եւ զնա եւս ի նոյն տանջանս հարեալ եւ զդեղ մահու արբուցեալ՝ վճարէ ի կենացն. զորոյ բարձեալ զմարմինն սպարապետին Աշոտի՝ առաքէր հանգուցանել ի քնարանի նախնական հանգստարանացն ի Բագարան:

 46:7 Likewise, the son of king Smbat, the valiant and youthful Mushegh, who had been seized because of the high treason of the inhabitants of the province of Uti, was subjected to the same torments, and given the fatal drug, whereupon he died. His body was claimed by the sparapet Ashot, who sent it to be buried in the ancestral cemetary of their family in Bagaran:

46:8 Սոյնպէս եւ զզուարթածաղիկ տիօք զերիտասարդն Սմբատ՝ զեղբօրորդի Սմբատայ, որ ինքնակամ դիմագրաւ դիմեալ ի ծառայութիւն Հագարացւոյն, եւ զնա եւս նովին դրժողութեամբ դաւոյ կորուսանէր ի կենաց աստի. զոր տարեալ թաղեցին ի Դարօնս ընդ հարս իւր:

 46:8 Similarly, the nephew of (king) Smbat, the youthful Smbat still in the prime of youth, was executed by the same insidious machinations, despite his willingness to enter into the service of the Hagarite. He was buried in Daronk’ among his ancestors:

46:9 Եւ վասն այսորիկ իսկ ի բերան առեալ իմ զսուգ սիրելեացն՝ եւ ձայն ի շրթանց գուժեալ լալոյ եւ պաղատանաց, կոծիմ կոծ ողորմ. վասն զի ըստ մեղաց մերոց վախճանեցան աւուրք մեր ամօթով եւ կորեան յունայնութեան յուսոյ:

 46:9 For this very reason I made mention of my grief for those beloved people, and bemoan (them) with tears and lamentations. For it was because of our sins, that our days ended in mist and perished hopelessly:

46:10 Իսկ ապա եւ զայլս եւս ոմանս ազատագունդ որեարս ըստ սմին սակի սպառէին, զորս ոչ է ինձ այժմ ասել մի՛ ըստ միոջէ: Եւ գրեթէ ի պատուաւորաց անտի ի մեծամեծացն յանձնտուր նմա եղելոցն եւ ընդ ձեռամբ անկելոցն ոչ ոք ապրեցաւ ի չարախտավատ եւ ի խարդաւանական մահուն տուգանաց, բայց միայն խոհեմամիտ թագաւորն Գագիկ եւ չքնաղագեղ սպարապետն Աշոտ, որ ուշ ի կուրծս արարեալ եւ իմաստայեղց մտաց խորհրդեամբ տեսեալ միանգամայն իսկ զելս գնացից տերանց եւ եղբարց առաջի իւրեանց, եւ յայնպիսի անհնարին մահուց զանգիտեալ՝ ամենայնիւ յամենայն բերեալ, հարան ի կամս ոստիկանին ի կատարելութիւն բանի եւ խորհրդոց իւրեանց ճեպեալ զանձինս:

 46:10 Subsequently, they killed in a similar manner certain azats, about whom it is not proper for me to speak individually at this time. Of the illustrious nobility that had surrendered to him or had fallen into his hands, almost no one survived the penalty of horrible and insidious death, save for the prudent king Gagik and the handsome sparapet Ashot, who weighed the matter carefully in their minds, and through their wisdom perceived at once the fate of the lords, their brothers. Being terrified of such an unbearable death, they submitted to the wishes of the ostikan in everything, and made haste to carry out their instructions:

46:11 Այլ եւ պատանի մանուկն Վասակ եւս՝ որդի Աշոտոյ գահերէց իշխանին Սիւնեաց, որ անձնտուր իւրովի լեալ ոստիկանին՝ եւ ապա ի դիպահոջ զնա արարեալ:

 46:11 Also the youthful Vasak son of Ashot, the gaherec’ prince of Siwnik’, who had willingly surrendered to the ostikan, was confined in prison:

46:12 Իսկ յաւուր միում իբրեւ գիշերն նսեմանայր՝ յանկարծակի զվաղակաւորն պողովատիկ ի գործ առեալ՝ զպահապանսն դիաթաւալ կացուցանէր. եւ ապա հարուստ մի անցեալ գնացեալ եւ կախեալ ընդ պատուար պարսպի քաղաքին՝ փախչէր:

 46:12 However, one day when dusk had fallen, he suddenly put to use his steel sabre, and having struck the guards headlong to the ground, traversed a considerable distance, and suspending himself from the bastion of the city, made his escape:

46:13 Իսկ իբրեւ ձայն պահնակացն զօրացեալ լինէր՝ եւ հրոսակս զկնի պատրաստէին. մինչ յայս մինչ յայն՝ նա ի փողոցս այգեստան այն անկեալ, երթայր գնայր ի հայրենի ամրոցս աշխարհին իւրեանց:

 46:13 Before the outcry of the guards could be heard and a force could be gathered to pursue him, Vasak, in the confusion, was able to get himself on the road to the vineyard, and took refuge in the security of his ancestral homeland:

46:14 Ապա այնուհետեւ չարութիւնն զգաղտնի պատրուակն մերկացեալ՝ զոմանս ի պատուական ազատաց բազմախողխող երկաթոյն տային կերակուր. իսկ այլք ոմանք փախստեայ ի ծործորս եւ ի ծերպս վիմաց տարեալ մղէին: Եւ ապա սարսեալ ամենայն աշխարհն սորեցին յայրս, թաքեան յանտառս, ելին ի քարանձաւս:

 46:14 Subsequently, (Yusuf’s) wickedness was stripped of its outward pretexts. Some of the illustrious azats fell prey to the sword, slaughterer of multitudes. The rest were forced to take refuge in the glens and rocky gorges. Thereupon, everyone in the land withdrew in a state of terror to the caves, hid themselves in the woods and ascended to the craggy dens:

46:15 Իսկ ապա կանայք եւս պատուականք տիրուհիք ըմբռնեալք ի գերչաց անտի առաւել եւս բարձին զբեռն ծանրութեան մարմնոյ նեղութեանց՝ ոչինչ յիշեալ զանուն փափկութեան մայրենի ազատութեան:

 46:15 Even women of distinction, such as princesses, were seized by the conquerors. More than ever, they bore the heavy burden of physical toil, and in no way remembered of the luxury of azat motherhood which they had enjoyed:

46:16 Այլ ոմանք ի դիպահոջ բերեալք ի խաւարչտին տեղիս՝ գրեթէ քրձազգեացք եւ խոշորազգեստք եւ կաշկանդեալք չքաւորութեամբ եւ կարօտեալք աւուրն պարենի. եւ ոչ թերեւս ազատ փափկացեալ լինէր քան զգեղջուկ վշտացեալ:

 46:16 Some of them were confined in dark prisons, clad only in cilice and coarse close. They were handicapped by poverty, and lacked their daily provisions. The azats enjoyed less tenderness than the unfortunate peasants:

46:17 Եւ այլք ոմանք մարք յղիք ի տուգանս անհնարինս մահաբերեալք՝ գերեզմանք լինէին մանկանց իւրեանց:

 46:17 Certain expectant mothers met their end in unbearable agony, and became their children’s graves:

46:18 Իսկ այլք չարախտավատ դառնութեամբ մահու սպառեալ զկեանս իւրեանց՝ ոչ ինչ ընդհատ երեւէին յայնցանէ, որ ոչ ճաշակեցին զաշխարհս:

 46:18 There were others, whose lives had been wasted by the pestiferous bitterness of death to the degree that they appeared in no way different from those who could not have a taste of this life:

46:19 Եւ այսպէս ոչ գտաւ լուծեալ կապարան դստերաց երկրի մերում, եւ ոչ թօթափեալ փոշի գլխոյ անդստին իսկ ի վշտմբեր տիկնաց, որ իբրեւ զաճիւն հնոցի մածեալ ունէր: Այլեւ եղկելի տուգանօք եւ հեծութեամբ բազմաւ տանջեալ:

 46:19 Thus the fetters on the daughters of our land could not be released, nor could the old dust be shaken from the heads of the grief-bearing ladies on whom it remained affixed in the likeness of ashes in the furnace. Also they were tormented with calamitous agonies and numerous sufferings:

46:20 եւ սուգ զգեցան սապատք զարդուց նոցա. եւ խանգարեցան սպասք երախանաց նոցա. եւ սարդի ոստայնք ձգեցան ի սենեակս առագաստից նոցա. եւ ծխոտեցան իսկ միանգամայն սրահակք եւ սրսկապանք նոցա: Եւ այսպէս ապա զօրացեալ մահու եւ կլեալ զբազումս: Արտօսր հոսեալ՝ կալաւ զամենայն երեսս երկրի:

 46:20 The containers of their ornaments stood in sorrow, and the vessels of their dining tables were left in disorder. Their nuptial chambers were filled with smoke. Thus, death prevailed, and having devoured the multitudes, it caused tears to be shed, and covered the entire face of the world:

46:21 Այլ այսոքիկ քեզ բաւականացեալ՝ ես ի կարգ պատմութեանն դարձայց, ոչ թողլով կիսակտուր զբանիցն ոճ:

 46:21 Let these suffice; I shall return to the sequence of my history, in order not to leave my narrative incomplete:
