10:0 Թէ զիա՛րդ կոչեաց կայսրն Վաղէս զսոփէստէսն ի յանդիմանութիւն ընդդէմ ճշմարտութեանն, եւ թէ զիա՛րդ ետես սոփեստէսն զսքանչելիսն, տեսանելով զբազմութիւն վկայիցն ի ներքս ի վկայարանին. կամ զիա՛րդ կայսրն Վաղէս սատակեցաւ նշանօքն եղելովք յԱստուծոյ. եւ կամ զիա՛րդ խաղաղութիւն լինէր եկեղեցեացն Աստուծոյ:	10:0 About how the Emperor Valens called the sophist to fight against the truth, how the sophist saw a miracle, namely the martyrs gathered inside the church, or how the Emperor Valens died by a sign revealed by God, or how peace was established in God’s churches:
10:1 Ապա խնդիր հրամայէր առնել թագաւորն Վաղէս, զի տեսցեն գտցեն այր մի ճարտար, որ կարող իցէ դնել գրով բանս դիմադարձութեան ընդդէմ հաւատոց քրիստոնէութեան:	10:1 Then King Valens ordered to search and find a skilled person who could speak in writing against the Christian faith:
10:2 Եւ պատմեցին նմա, զի էր այր մի սոփեստէս ճարտար ի քաղաքի միոջ:	10:2 He was told that there was a certain skilled sophist in some city:
10:3 Ապա առաքեաց կայսրն առ նա մագիստրիանոսս, զի երթիցեն փութով եւ անզբաղապէս զայրն առ նա ածցեն. եւ առեալ ածին փութապէս:	10:3 The emperor sent high-ranking officials to him to go as soon as possible and bring him to him immediately. They went right away, found him and took him:
10:4 Իբրեւ գնացեալ գայր օթեւանս երկուս, դէպ եղեւ նոցա դիպել այլ քաղաքի միոջ. եւ արտաքոյ քաղաքին վկայանոց մի սուրբ տիկնոջն Թեկղի:	10:4 On the way back, having already passed two parking lots, they stopped in another city; outside the city there was a chapel in the name of Saint Thekla:
10:5 Իբրեւ պատահեաց այնմ, էջ սոփեստէս, եւ իւր վանս ունէր ի ներքս ի վկայանոցի անդ. իսկ մագիստրիանոսքն ունէին վանս իւրեանց ի քաղաքին:	10:5 Upon arrival there, the sophist stopped there and chose the interior of the chapel as a place to spend the night, and high-ranking officials stayed in the city:
10:6 Եւ իբրեւ կերաւ հաց սոփեստէսն, էարկ անկողին, եւ փակեաց զդուրս վկայանոցին. եւ ինքն ի նիստ եղեալ ի վերայ անկողնին, կամէր լինել ի կողմն. մինչ դեռ արթուն էր, աչօք բացօք տեսանէր, զի յանկարծ բացան դրունք վկայանոցին, եւ եղեւ ժողով մեծ բազմութեան վկայիցն, որ երեւեցան մեծապէս փառօք:	10:6 The sophist, having supped, made his bed, locked the chapel doors, sat down on the bed and wanted to lie down. And before he had even fallen asleep, he saw with open eyes that the chapel doors had opened and a great multitude of martyrs appeared in great splendor:
10:7 Եւ ելանէր ընդ առաջ նոցա սուրբ տիկինն Թեկղէս զարդարեալ մեծապայծառ, զի նշոյլք որպէս ի լուսոյ հատանէին ի նմանէն. եւ առնէին միմեանց ողջոյն, եւ ասէր ցնոսա տիկինն Թեկղ` թէ Բարի՛ եկիք, սիրելիք բարեկամք, եւ վաստակաւորք Քրիստոսի:	10:7 Saint Thekla came out to meet them, in a shiny robe, from which rays of light seemed to emanate. They bowed to each other, and Saint Thekla said to them: “Welcome, beloved friends and ascetics of Christ:
10:8 Տուեալք միմեանց ողջոյն, արկեալք զիւրաքանչիւր զաթոռն, նստէին կարգաւ:	10:8 After mutual greetings, they set up chairs and sat down in order:
10:9 Ապա սկսանէին սուրբքն խօսել, եւ ասէին. Սուրբքն տեառն, որ չեւ են հրաժարեալ յերկրէս, դեռ եւս աստէն ի նեղութեան են, են որք ի կապանս են. են որք ի փիւղակէս են, են որք յաքսորս, եւ են որք յայլ բռնութեան են, ի զրպարտութեան, ի հարկս եւ ի խոշտանգանս չարչարանաց:	10:9 Then the saints entered into a conversation and note: “Those saints of the Lord who still live on earth are in a difficult situation: some are in chains, some in prison, some in exile, and others are subjected to violence, illegal extortion and torment:
10:10 Եւ մեք փութապէս ժողովեցաք, զի մի՛ անտեսութեամբ անփոյթ արասցուք նախանձախնդիր լինել տեառն հաւատացելոց:	10:10 We hurried to gather here in order not to ignore these torments, but to pray to God for intercession for believers:
10:11 Վասն զի մանաւանդ բազում մշակք տեառն խափանեալ կան, բազում անդք ի դերեւ ելին, եւ բազում այգիք խոպանացան. պարտ է մեզ զխափանիչս մշակացն զՎաղէս խափանել, զի ամենայն մշակ ի գործ իւր կանխեսցէ:	10:11 Moreover, many of the Lord’s mshaks (workers) have been detained, many fields have remained uncultivated, many gardens have turned into a wasteland; we need to curb Valent, who interferes with the mshaks (workers), so that each mshak can get to his job:
10:12 Եւ քաջ մշակն Բասիլիոս յիւրմէ գործոյն կայր խափանեալ:	10:12 The zealous mshak Vasily is also suspended from his work:
10:13 Արդ եկայք առաքեսցուք ի մէնջ երկուս, որք երթիցեն վճարիցեն ի կենաց զչարագործն Վաղէս:	10:13 Let us choose two persons among us and send them to take the life of the villain Valens:
10:14 Ապա միում անուն էր ի Սարգիս ի նոցանէ, եւ միւսումն Թէոդորոս. արձակէին զնոսա, դնէին ժամ եւ ասէին. Ի սոյն ժամ եկեսջիք դուք եւ մեք:	10:14 And one of them was called Sargis, the other Theodore, and they were sent, having appointed a time for them: (“Tomorrow) come at the same hour, we will also come:
10:15 Եւ զայս ամենայն լուեալ սոփեստէսն, որ էր վկայանոցին, եւ տեսեալ զայս տեսիլ աչօք բացօք, եւ կայր զարմացեալ, եւ անքուն լինէր մինչեւ յառաւօտն զցայգն:	10:15 The sophist who was in the chapel heard all this, saw this vision with open eyes, was amazed, did not fall asleep until dawn:
10:16 Եւ ընդ այգս այգոյն եկին հասին մագիստրիանոսքն, եւ ասեն ցսոփեստէսն. Արի գնասցուք զճանապարհս:	10:16 At dawn, high-ranking officials came and told the sophist: “Get up, let’s continue our journey:
10:17 Եւ խօթապատճառս լինէր, եւ ոչ կարէր ի տեղւոյն խաղալ:	10:17 He referred to the fact that he was ill and could not move from his place:
10:18 Իբրեւ սկսան նոքա ստիպել զնա, իսկ նա թալանայր, հանէր զոգին, ոգի զոգւով ածէր, եւ ոչ կարէր բանիցն տալ պատասխանի մինչեւ յերեկոյ:	10:18 When they began to force him, he froze, fainted, barely breathed and could not answer them until the evening:
10:19 Ապա իբրեւ երեկոյ եղեւ, թողին զնա մագիստրիանոսքն ի վկայանոցին, եւ գնացին ի քաղաքն ի վանս իւրեանց:	10:19 When evening came, the officials left him in the chapel and went to the city, to their apartment:
10:20 Եւ սոփեստէսն փակէր զդուրս վկայանոցին, եւ ի կողմն եղեալ յիւրում տեղւոջն, յանկարծակի դարձեալ երեւեցաւ նմա, զի բացան դրունք վկայանոցին, եկին կուտեցան, եւ լի եղեւ վկայանոցն նոքիւն վկայիւք:	10:20 And the sophist locked the chapel doors and lay down in his place. It suddenly seemed to him again that the chapel doors had opened, and the same martyrs had gathered and filled the chapel:
10:21 Եւ ելանէին միմեանց ընդ առաջ մեծաւ ուրախութեամբ, եւ տային միմեանց ողջոյն. ապա արկանէին զաթոռս իւրաքանչիւր կարգաւ յօրինեալ բոլորէին կարգէին ի նստել:	10:21 They joyfully greeted and greeted each other and, having arranged the chairs in order, sat around:
10:22 Ապա գային սուրբքն Սարգիս եւ Թէոդորոս երկոքեան ի գործոյն` յոր առաքեալ էին, եւ մտանէին ի ժողովս սրբոցն:	10:22 Then Saints Sargis and Theodore came from the work to which they had been sent, and entered the assembly of saints:
10:23 Ապա հայեցան բազմութիւն ժողովոյ վկայիցն, եթէ Ո՛րպէս յոր գործ երթեալ էիք` վճարեցէք:	10:23 And many of the gathered martyrs asked: “How did you finish the work you went to:
10:24 Պատասխանի տուեալ ասէին, թէ Էր իսկ յորժամ ի ձէնջ գնացաք, սպանաք զթշնամին ճշմարտութեանն զՎաղէս. եւ ի սոյն ժամ առ ձեզ դարձեալ` եկեալ եմք աւասիկ առ ձեզ:	10:24 They answered: “As we left (yesterday) from you, so we immediately killed the enemy of truth, Valens, and by this very hour we have returned to you:
10:25 Եւ յարուցեալ գոհանային ամենայն բազմութիւն ժողովոյն զտեառնէ մերմէ Յիսուսէ Քրիստոսէ. եւ ինքեանք մեկնեցան յիւրաքանչիւր տեղիս:	10:25 All those gathered got up, thanked our Lord Jesus Christ and, parting, each went to his own:
10:26 Եւ յահի մեծի լինէր սոփեստէսն մինչեւ յայգ յառաւօտն:	10:26 The sophist remained in great fear until morning:
10:27 Ապա իբրեւ այգ եղեւ, եկին մագիստրիանոսքն, ասեն ցսոփեստն. Արի՛ գնասցուք առ կայսրն:	10:27 When dawn broke, the officials came and told the sophist: “Get up, let’s go to the emperor:
10:28 Նորա պատասխանի տուեալ, ասէ. Կայսրն մեռաւ, արդ մեք առ ո՞ երթիցուք:	10:28 In response, he note: “The Emperor is dead, who should I go to now:
10:29 Եւ բազում վիճումն ի մէջ եղեալ նոցա վասն այսր բանի, եւ գրաւական եդեալ ի մէջ վասն այսր բանիս մինչեւ յերիս աւուրս:	10:29 On this there was a big dispute between them, they bet for three days:
10:30 Եթէ ոչ, ասէ, հարցին աւար վաճառք, եւ քաղաքք յափշտակեսցին, ես` եթէ կայցէ նոյն կայսրն` գլխատեցայց, զի իշխեցի զայս ճառել:	10:30 If,” he said, “the goods will not be plundered, the cities will not be robbed, if the emperor remains the same, then let them cut off my head that I dared to say such things:
10:31 Ապա թոյլ տային նմա մագիստրիանոսքն մինչեւ յերիս աւուրս. եւ յետ երից աւուրցն ստուգեցաւ զրոյցն, զի մեռեալ էր կայսրն:	10:31 The officials gave him a three-day deadline, and three days later the rumor was confirmed that the emperor had died:
10:32 Ապա յետ այսորիկ արձակեցան ամենայն որ միանգամ ոք կայր ի պատիժս կամ յաքսորս. եւ դարձան ուրուք ուրուք որ միանգամ ինչք էին յափշտակեալք:	10:32 After that, all those who were punished or exiled were released, and what was stolen from them was returned:
10:33 Սոյնպէս եւ զկեսարացւոցն հրաման ետուն տալ զիւրաքանչիւր իրաց. եւ կոչեցեալ սրբոյն Բարսղի, զի զիւրաքանչիւր առցեն, եւ ոչ կամէին հուպ լինել:	10:33 Also, in relation to the Caesareans, it was ordered to return things to everyone. Saint Basil called everyone to take the thing handed over to them, but no one wanted to come close:
10:34 Զի թէպէտ եւ ասէր ցնոսա Բարսեղ` եթէ ահաւասիկ երաշխաւոր իմ թափեցաւ ձեզ, զի ասացի` թէ եւ տաց ձեզ ձեռն ի ձեռն ի ձեռս ձեր:	10:34 Although Vasily told them: “These are the things that I vouched for that they would survive, and promised that I would personally hand over your property to you:
10:35 Եւ ոչ ինչ կամէին ունկնդիր լինել, այլ ասէին. Այդ ի գանձ տեառն երթիցէ, որ դատեցաւ զդատաստանս մեր, եւ խնդրեաց վրէժ սուրբ եկեղեցւոյ ուխտի իւրոյ:	10:35 But they would not listen to him and note: “Let these things enter the treasury of the Lord because he judged us and avenged the holy servants of the church:
10:36 Եւ ոչ ոք ի կեսարացւոց անտի հպեցաւ յարծաթ իւր, եւ ոչ մի ոք. բայց թողին զայն ի գանձ եկեղեցւոյն:	10:36 So none of the Caesareans approached their silver, everything was left to the treasury of the church:
10:37 Ապա էառ զայն արքեպիսկոպոսն, արար աւազանս մկրտութեան կնքոյ տալոյ. եւ կան հաստատեալ աւազանքն արծաթիք ի տուն լուսարանին մինչեւ ցայսօր ժամանակի:	10:37 And the archbishop took this silver and ordered to make baptismal fonts out of it, and these silver fonts still remain intact in the baptismal font at the church:
