16:1 Արդ՝ իբրեւ այս այսպէս եղեւ՝ ժողով ամբոխին ի վերայ կուտէր բազմութիւն մարդկան, եւ էին բազում սպասաւորք արքունի, որ եկեալ էին զնմանէն՝ տանել յարքունիս, եւ նախարարքն եւ մեծամեծք աւագանւոյն, որ եկեալ էին շքադիրք՝ պատիւ առնել նմա եւ երթալ ընդ նմա յարքունիս. զի տարցին զնա կնութեան թագաւորին Տրդատայ եւ Հայոց տիկնութեան:

 16:1 Now when all this had taken place, the multitude of people and the press of the crowd increased. Many servants from the royal court had come to convey her to the court, and [naxarars] lords and the grandee nobility were there to pay her homage, collect her, and accompany her to court. For they were taking her to marry King Trdat and to become the queen of the Armenians:

16:2 Իսկ նոքա արտասուագոչ ողորմ ողորմ զձեռս համբարձեալ յերկինս՝ խնդրէին ի կամարար Տեառնէն՝ ապրեցուցանել զնոսա յանաւրէն յանարժան հարսանեացն պղծութենէն:

 16:2 But the maidens raised their hands to heaven with tearful and piteous cries, begging the benevolent Lord to save them from the impurity of this lawless and unworthy marriage:

16:3 Զգոչիւն բարձեալ լալով մեծաձայն ճչէին եւ ասէին. «Քա՛ւ լիցի մեզ, թէ պատրեսցեն զմեզ մեծութիւնք, կամ խտղտեսցեն զմեզ փափկութիւնք, կամ հրապուրեսցեն զմեզ թագաւորութիւնք, կամ նեղեսցեն զմեզ հալածանք, կամ վտանգեսցեն զմեզ տանջանք հարուածոց, թէպէտ եւ բիւր ազգի ազգի տանջիցէք զմեզ. կամ երկիցո՞ւք մեք արդեաւք յահագին մահուանէն, զոր ածելոց էք դուք ի վերայ մեր:

 16:3 Raising a cry, they loudly wept and note: “Heaven forbid that riches should deceive us, or luxury charm us, or kingdoms allure us, or torments oppress us, or torture and persecution imperil us, no matter in how many ways they torment us. Will we really fear the terrible death which you are about to bring upon us:

16:4 Քա՛ւ լիցի մեզ, թէ փոխանակեսցուք զանցաւոր կեանս ընդ յաւիտենական կենացն որ ոչն անցանէ. քա՛ւ լիցի մեզ, թէ ուրասցուք զԷն Աստուած զամենահաստիչն, որոյ տէրութիւնն յէութենէ հաստատեալ՝ անփոփոխ են բարիքն ամենայն եւ ոչ անցանեն:

 16:4 Heaven forbid that we exchange for this transitory life the eternal life that passes not away. Heaven forbid that we deny the God ’who is’ [Ex. 3.14], the creator of all, whose authority is established by his essence, whose blessings are all immutable and pass not away:

16:5 Այլ ո՛չ խորութիւնք եւ ոչ բարձրութիւնք, ո՛չ վիշտք եւ ոչ չարչարանք, ո՛չ կապանք եւ ոչ տանջանք, ո՛չ հուր ո՛չ ջուր եւ ոչ սուր, ո՛չ զբաւսանք եւ ոչ պատրանք, ո՛չ մեծութիւնք եւ ոչ աղքատութիւնք, ո՛չ այն աշխարհ եւ ոչ այս աշխարհս, ո՛չ կեանք եւ ոչ մահ՝ ոչ ոք կարէ մեկնել զմեզ ի սիրոյն Քրիստոսի:

 16:5 Neither depths nor heights, neither tribulations nor torments, neither bonds nor tortures, not fire nor water nor sword, neither pleasure nor deceit, neither riches nor poverty, neither that world nor this world, neither life nor death - no one can separate us from the love of Christ:

16:6 Զի նմա նուիրեցաք զկուսութիւնս մեր, զի նմա աւանդեցաք զսրբութիւնս մեր, զի նմա մնամք եւ սիրոյ նորա ցանկացեալ սպասեմք, մինչեւ կացցուք առաջի փառաց գովութեան նորա առանց ամաւթոյ եւ պատկառանաց:

 16:6 For to him we have dedicated our virginity, to him we have commended our purity, for him we wait and his love we await with longing until we stand before his praiseworthy glory without shame or timidity:

16:7 Եւ արդ՝ եդեալ որոտումն յերկնից սաստիկ անհնարին, զի ահաբեկեալ զամենայն ամբոխն, եւ ձայն՝ զի ասէր առ նոսա, թէ «Զաւրացարո՛ւք, պինդ կացէք, քաջալերեցարո՛ւք, զի ես ընդ ձեզ եմ, եւ պահեցի զձեզ յամենայն ճանապարհս ձեր, եւ ածի զձեզ պահեալս անարատութեամբ, եւ հասուցի զձեզ մինչեւ ի տեղիս յայս, զի եւ աստ փառաւորեսցի անուն իմ առաջի հեթանոսաց կողմանց հիւսիսականաց:

 16:7 Then there occurred a fearfully loud thundering from heaven which terrified the whole throng, and a voice which said to them: “Be strong [cf. I Cor. 16.13], stand firm [Gal. 5.1], be of good cheer [Matt. 14.27; Mk. 6.50], because I am with you [Matt. 28.20], and I have preserved you in all your journeys and led you safely in purity and have brought you to this place, that here my name might be glorified before the heathens of the Northern regions:

16:8 Մանաւանդ դու, Հռիփսիմէ, ըստ անուանդ քում արդարեւ ընկեցեալ եղեր Գայիանեաւդ եւ քոյովք սիրելեաւքդ ի մահուանէ ի կեանս. եւ մի՛ երկնչիք, այլ եկեսջիք ի տեղի յայն՝ զոր ես եւ հայր իմ պատրաստեցաք ձեզ, զանքնին ուրախութեան տեղին, ձեզ եւ որ միանգամ իբրեւ զձեզդ իցեն:

 16:8 Especially you, Rhipsime, who according to your name were truly ’thrown’ with Gayane and your friends from death to life. Do not fear; but you will come to that place which my Father and I have prepared for you [cf. Jn. 14.2-3], the place of inscrutable joy, for you and for those who will be like you:

16:9 Եւ այնպէս յերկար որոտացեալ, մինչեւ թմբրեալ լինէին մարդիկն յահէ անտի. եւ բազմաց ընդոստուցեալ, անգուշեալ բազում երիվարք հեծելոց յահէ անտի՝ զբազումս ընկեցեալ եւ զբազումս առաթուր հարեալ սատակէին:

 16:9 And so it thundered for a long while, until people were dazed from it and in awe. Many horses, frightened by the surging multitude, threw their riders to the ground, and many of the riders were trampled under foot and perished:

16:10 Եւ մարդկանն իսկ ընդ միմեանս ամբոխեալ՝ ընդ կուտակելն բազումք զբազումս կոխեալ սատակէին. եւ բազմաց լինէր կոտորած, եւ ձայն աղաղակի եւ վայոյ, եւ անհնարին չարիք եւ արհաւիրք ի վերայ մարդկանն հասանէին. եւ բազումք մեռան, եւ բազմաց արիւնն հեղեալ զերկիրն ոռոգանէր:

 16:10 Similarly people, as they mobbed here and there, trampled one another and perished. Many were broken and there was the sound of clamor and lamenting at the unbelievable evils and fears that had descended upon people. Many died, and such an amount of blood was shed that it watered the ground:

16:11 Արդ՝ իբրեւ այս շփոթ ամբոխի եղեւ ի նոցանէն ի մէջ կուտակելոցն մարդկան բազմութեան՝ ոմանք ի մեծամեծ սպասաւորացն արքունի անդէն ընթացան պատմել թագաւորին զամենայն բանս նոցա. քանզի դիպեցան անդ նշանագիրք, որ գրեցին զամենայն բանս, եւ ընթերցան առաջի թագաւորին:

 16:11 Now when this confusion arose from the press of the multitude of people, some folk who were of the grandee servitors of the court hurried from there to inform the king of all that had been said, since secretaries [nshanagirq] happened to be there, who wrote down all that was said and read the accounts in the king’s presence:

16:12 Եւ ասէ թագաւորն. «Փոխանակ զի ոչ կամեցաւ գալ պատուով շքեղութեամբ կամաւք՝ բռնաբար ածցեն մինչեւ յապարանսս եւ մուծցեն զնա ի սենեակն արքունի:

 16:12 Then the king note: “Since she did not want to come voluntarily and in splendid honor, let them forcibly bring her to my palace and bring her into the royal chamber:

16:13 Արդ՝ առեալ զսուրբն Հռիփսիմէ սպասաւորացն բռնաբար, մերթ վերամբարձ, մերթ ի քարշ. եւ նա աղաղակէր եւ ասէր. «Տէր Յիսուս Քրիստոս, աւգնեա՛ ինձ». եւ ամենայն ամբոխն զկնի նորա փողեալ՝ թնդէր երկիրն ի բազմութենէ անտի:

 16:13 So, the servants took Rhipsime by force, now lifting her, now dragging her. And she cried out and note: “Lord Jesus Christ, help me.” And the whole crowd followed her, making the earth loudly shake from their great numbers:

16:14 Արդ՝ ածին մուծին զնա մինչեւ յապարանս թագաւորին, ի սենեակն արքունի:

 16:14 They brought her to the king’s palace and led her to the royal chamber:

16:15 Իսկ իբրեւ արգելին զնա ի սենեակն՝ սկսաւ խնդրել ի Տեառն եւ ասէ. «Տէր զաւրութեանց, դու ես Աստուած ճշմարիտ:

 16:15 But when they had shut her in the chamber, she began to beseech the Lord, saying: “Lord of hosts, you are the true God:

16:16 Դու ես, որ հերձեր զծովն Կարմիր, եւ անցուցեր զքո ժողովուրդն:

 16:16 You it was who parted the Red Sea, and brought your people across:

16:17 Դու ես, որ զամուլ վէմն դարձուցեր ի ծննդականութիւն ջուրցն վտակաց, եւ արբուցեր զժողովուրդն ծարաւեալ:

 16:17 You it was who turned the sterile rock into streams of fertile waters and gave drink to your thirsty people:

16:18 Դու ես, որ իջուցեր զծառայն քո զՅովնան յանդունդս խորոց ծովուն, եւ ետուր առնուլ զչափ քոյոյ զաւրութեանդ, եւ արտաքսեցեր զնա ի դուրս քան զմարդկային բնութիւնս. եւ միւսանգամ այսրէն առանց ապականութեան ածեր ողջանդամ եւ կացուցեր ի կենդանութեան, զի եւ մազ մի անգամ ոչ շարժեալ լինէր ի վարսից նորա:

 16:18 You it was who brought down your servant Jonah to the unfathomable depths of the sea and made him experience your power; you cast him out from our human state and brought him back again to life whole and unharmed, for not one hair of his head was touched:

16:19 Դու ես Աստուած ճշմարիտ, որ եւ զԴանիէլ, կուր արկեալ գազանաց՝ ապրեցուցեր յահագին ժանեացն, եւ կացուցեր զզրպարտեալն առաջի նեղչացն փառաւորութեամբ:

 16:19 You are the true God who saved Daniel, thrown as food to wild beasts, from their fearful teeth, and rendered him who had been de-famed glorious in the sight of his tormentors:

16:20 Դու եւ զերիս մանկունսն, որ արկեալ յայրել վասն զքեզ պաշտելոյն՝ ողջ եւ անարատ ի հրոյն պահեցեր. զի փառաւորեսցեն զքեզ՝ որք տեսին զսքանչելիս քո:

 16:20 You also saved alive and unharmed by fire the three children who had been thrown into the furnace because they worshiped you [cf. Dan. 3], for they glorified you, who had seen your wonders:

16:21 Դու ետուր խոտաճարակ լինել խիստ եւ անաւրէն թագաւորին Բաբելացւոց, զի ոչ իմացաւ փառաւորել զքեզ ի վերայ սքանչելեացն քոց զոր ցուցեր նմա. փոխեալ զնա ի կերպարանս անասնոց եւ ընդ գազանս անապատի եդեր զբնակութիւն նորա, եւ ընդ ցիռս վայրի զարաւտ նորա:

 16:21 You made the fierce and lawless Babylonian king pasture on grass, because he did not consent to glorify you for your wonders which you had shown him; you changed him into the form of animals and made his habitat with the beasts of the desert and his pasturage with wild asses:

16:22 Դու եւ զաղախին քո Շուշան կրկին ապրեցուցեր, յերկուց մահուց փրկեալ, եւ խայտառակամահ սատակեցեր զանաւրէն թշնամիսն, եւ պսակ պարծանաց արդարութեան յուսացելոյն քոյ շնորհեցեր եւ կանգնեցեր:

 16:22 You twice saved your handmaid Susanna, delivering her from a double death, and destroyed her lawless enemies with an opprobrious death, and graciously set a glorious crown of righteousness on her who hoped in you:

16:23 Դու նոյն ինքն ես, եւ ամք քո ոչ անցանեն:

 16:23 ’You are the same, and your years do not pass:

16:24 Դու, տէր, զփառս քո այլում ոչ տաս:

 16:24 ’You, Lord, do not give your glory to another’:

16:25 Դու ես որ փառաւորեալդ ես ի վերայ ամենայն տիեզերաց. մի՛ պղծեսցեն զանուն սուրբ քո հեթանոսք:

 16:25 You are the one glorified over the whole world [cf. Dan. 3.45]; let not the heathen profane your holy name:

16:26 Դու կարող ես փրկել զիս ի պղծութենէս յայսմանէ. զի վախճանեցայց սրբութեամբ մեռանել վասն անուանդ քոյ մեծի:

 16:26 You are able to save me from this profanation, that I may in purity die for your great name:
