6:126 Լուռ եկաց աւուրս երկոտասան, մինչ ի գլուխ չոգաւ փուրսիշ ամբաստանութեանն:

 6:126 He kept silent for twelve days until the process of the accusation had come to an end:

6:127 Եւ եղեւ յաւուր միոջ մեծի զամենայն երեւելի զպատուականսն հրամայէր յընթրիս կոչել:

 6:127 Then on one special day he ordered all the eminent nobles to be invited to a banquet:

6:128 Կոչեցին եւ զուրացեալն. եւ նա ըստ առաջին կարգի աւրինացն արքունի արկանէր զպատուական հանդերձն, զոր ունէր ի թագաւորէն. կապէր եւ զպատուավուրսն եւ զխոյրն ոսկեղէն դնէր ի վերայ, եւ զկռանակուռ ձոյլ ոսկի կամարն ընդելուզեալ մարգարտով եւ ակամբք պատուականաւք ընդ մէջ իւր ածէր, եւ զգինդսն յականջսն, եւ զգումարտակն ի պարանոցին, զսամոյրսն զթիկամբքն, եւ զամենայն աւրէնս պատուոյն զանձամբ արկեալ՝ երթայր յարքունիս. շքեղ եւ երեւելի քան զամենեսեան երեւէր բազմութեանն:

 6:128 Including the apostate. According to previous royal customary usage he wore the robe of honor that the king had given him; he also put on his head-band and the golden tiara on top. Round his waist he put the girdle of pure hammered gold set with pearls and precious stones, earrings in his ears, the necklace round his neck, the sable cloak on his back; dressed in all his marks of honor he went to court, where he appeared to the assembly as more splendid and distinguished than everyone else:

6:129 Իսկ նախարարքն որք կամաւք ի Հայոց չոգան՝ անձամբ տուեալ զանձինս ի փորձութիւն, եւ սուրբքն որ յառաջագոյն հասեալ էին, կապանաւք ունէին զամենեսեան առ Դրանն արքունի:

 6:129 But the nobles who had willingly come from Armenia and had submitted to investigation and the saints who had arrived earlier were all held in bonds at the royal court:

6:130 Իբրեւ տեսին զնա զարդարեալ եւ շքեղացեալ, եւ բազմամբոխ գնդաւ գայր յարքունիս, ի միտս իւրեանց սկսան այպանել զնա եւ ասել. «Ով անմիտ վաճառական, զանմահ եւ զանանց պատիւն ետուր, եւ զանցաւորդ գնեցեր, զոր եւ զայդ եւս ընդ մաւտոյ աւուրս կորուսանելոց ես:

 6:130 When they saw him coming to the palace dressed up in his finery with a numerous entourage, they began to mock him inwardly and say: “O senseless merchant, you have sold the immortal and eternal honor and have bought the transitory—and even that in a few days you will lose:

6:131 Եհաս եւ նստաւ ի ներքին դահլիճսն, որ էր հրապարակ մեծամեծացն:

 6:131 On his arrival he sat in the inner gallery which was the chamber of the greatest nobles:

6:132 Արդ եկն ել սենեկապանն յարքունուստ, հարցանէր ցնա եւ ասէ. «Արքայ յղեաց առ քեզ, յորմէ՞ գտեալ է քո զայդ ամենայն պատուական պատիւդ, ասա ինձ վաղվաղակի, վասն որո՞յ արդար վաստակոց:

 6:132 Then the court chamberlain entered and questioned him: “The king sent me to ask you from whom you acquired all these honors. Tell me straightaway, for what just services:

6:133 Եւ յուշ առնէր նմա զամենայն բանս ատենին, յորում դատապարտեցաւն. նա եւ զոր ոչ եւս անդ խաւսեցան՝ զայն եւս յայտնէր նմա:

 6:133 He reminded him of all the proceedings of the tribunal where he had been condemned:

6:134 Զի ոչ ըստ կարգի ունէր նա զտէրութիւնն Սիւնեաց աշխարհին, այլ նենգութեամբ եւ քսութեամբ ետ սպանանել զհաւրեղբայր իւր զՎաղինակ, եւ յինքն տարաւ զտէրութիւնն՝ իբրեւ քրպիկար յարքունիս:

 6:134 And even the things that had not been mentioned there, these too he indicated to him: that he did not legally hold the lord-ship of the land of Siunik, but by treachery and intrigue he had had his uncle Vaḷinak killed and had taken the title for himself as a reward at court:

6:135 Նա եւ այլ եւս բազում բանիւք դատապարտեցին զնա, որում ամենայն աւագանին վկայ գային:

 6:135 They had also condemned him on many other charges, to which all the upper nobility bore witness:

6:136 Պապանձեցաւ ամենեւին, եւ չգտաւ բան ճշմարիտ ի բերան նորա:

 6:136 He was entirely confounded and no true word was found in his mouth:

6:137 Իբրեւ կրկնեցին եւ երեքկնեցին ցուցանելով ի ներքս յարքունիսն, հատաւ վճիռ մահու ի վերայ նորա:

 6:137 When they had repeated twice and three times (the charges) and had reported within the palace, sentence of death was passed upon him:

6:138 Արդ եկն ել դահճապետն, եւ մատեաւ վաղվաղակի առաջի ամենայն մեծամեծացն, մերկացոյց ի նմանէ զպատիւն զոր ունէր յարքունուստ, եւ զգեցոյց նմա հանդերձ մահապարտի:

 6:138 Then the chief-executioner entered, immediately stepped forward in front of all the magnates, stripped from him the honors bestowed on him by the court, and dressed him in the garb of a condemned man:

6:139 Կապեցին զոտս եւ զձեռս, եւ կանանցաբար նստուցին ի ձի մատակ. տարան եւ ետուն յայն զընդան, ուր կային մահապարտքն ամենայն:

 6:139 He was bound hand and foot, set like a woman on a mare, led off, and delivered to the prison where all those condemned to death were kept:

6:140 Իսկ նախարարքն Հայոց եւ սուրբ եպիսկոպոսքն հանդերձ. երիցամբքն, թէպէտ եւ էին ի մեծի պատուհասի, ոչինչ յիշէին զնեղութիւնսն, որ անցեալ էր ընդ նոսա, եւ կամ որ այլ եւս ակնկալութիւն էր գալ ի վերայ. այլ զարմացեալ էին ընդ մեծ յայտնութիւնն, որ եղեւ յԱստուծոյ:

 6:140 But the Armenian nobles and holy bishops with the priests, although they were subject to great punishment, did not at all think of their afflictions which they had suffered or which they expected to come upon them, but rather they wondered at the great revelation effected by God:

6:141 Մխիթարէին զմիմեանս եւ ասէին. «Քաջութեամբ պատերազմեցաք, առաւել եւս համբերութեամբ ճգնեսցուք:

 6:141 They consoled one another, saying: “We fought bravely, let us endure even more patiently:

6:142 Լուեալ է մեր ի սուրբ հարցն մերոց, եթէ գլուխ ամենայն առաքինութեան համբերութիւն է, եւ իմաստութիւն երկնաւոր՝ կատարեալ աստուածպաշտութիւն. եւ զայս ոչ ոք կարէ գտանել առանց չարչարանաց:

 6:142 We have learned from our holy fathers that the chief of all virtues is patience, and perfect piety is heavenly wisdom. But this no one can acquire without torments:

6:143 Իսկ չարչարանքն յորժամ ընդերկարեսցին ի վերայ՝ յայնժամ բազմանայ վարձ հատուցմանց պարգեւին:

 6:143 Now when torments are drawn out, then the compensating reward will be that much the greater:

6:144 Ապա եթէ այդ այդպէս է, զայս միայն աղաչեսցուք զԱստուած, զի համբերել կարասցուք ամենայն փորձութեանց. եւ Տէր ինքնին արասցէ հնարս մերում փրկութեան:

 6:144 So, if this is the case, let us beg God only that we may be able to endure all trials and the Lord himself will provide the means for our salvation:

6:145 Լուեալ է մեր զդատաստան քառասուն զինուորացն Քրիստոսի, որք բազում հարուածս տանջանաց ընկալան:

 6:145 We have heard of the sentence passed on the forty warriors of Christ who suffered many tortures:

6:146 Մինն ի նոցանէ փութացաւ ի բաղանիսն, եւ վրիպեաց ի պսակէն. իսկ երեսուն եւ ինն համբերութեամբ կատարեցան, եւ հասին այնմ աւետեացն, որում ցանկացեալն էին:

 6:146 One of them hastened to the baths and lost the crown, but the thirty-nine patiently endured martyrdom and attained that promise for which they had longed:

6:147 Իսկ մեր ընկերակից աւանիկ, որ յառաջագոյն որոշեցաւ ի մէնջ, ահա եղեւ գործակից սատանայի:

 6:147 Now there is our colleague who separated from us at the beginning—behold, he becomes the accomplice of Satan:

6:148 Մինչ դեռ ոգիք ի մարմնին են, ընկալաւ զառհաւատչեայ գեհենին տանջանաց, որ ո՛չ միայն սրբոց է ողբալի, այլ եւ ամենայն գազանաբարոյ մարդկան:

 6:148 While his soul is still in the body, he has received the pledge of the torments of hell, which provokes not only saints to lamentation, but even all brutal men:

6:149 Զայս ասէին, եւ բազում արտասուս ի վերայ կորուսելոյն հեղուին. եւ անդէն զերգս հոգեւորս ի բերան առեալ ասէին. Բարի է յուսալ ի Տէր քան յուսալ ի մարդիկ. բարի է յուսալ ի Տէր քան յուսալ յիշխանս. ամենայն ազինք շրջեցան զինեւ, եւ անուամբ Տեառն յաղթեցի նոցա:

 6:149 So, they spoke and shed many tears over the lost one. But then they began to sing spiritual hymns: “It is better to hope in the Lord than to hope in men. It is better to hope in the Lord than to hope in princes. All nations surrounded me, but through the name of the Lord I conquered them:

6:150 Քաջալերէին զմիմեանս եւ ասէին. «Զայս գիտելով, եղբարք, մի՛ երկիցուք յանաստուած ազգէս հեթանոսաց, որ քան զմեղուս վատթարագոյն եւս են ի զայրանալն իւրեանց. զի եւ նոցա ցասումն ի սատակումն անձանց իւրեանց լիցի. այլ մեք զանուն Տեառն կարդասցուք եւ վանեսցուք զամենեսեան:

 6:150 They encouraged each other, saying: “Since we know this, brethren, let us not fear the godless nation of the heathen, who in their frenzy are more vicious than bees, for their fury will also turn to their own destruction. But we shall call on the name of the Lord and rout them all:
