58:0 Եւ մտեալ թագաւորին Յազկերտի ըստ կարգելոյ ժամանակին յոստանն ի Վրկան եւ միահամուռ ամենայն աւագանւոյն եւ զաւրացն որ ընդ նմա էին` համարձակութիւն այնուհետեւ տային բնակիչք շահաստանին որք ի Նիւշապուհն էին, ըստ հրամանին Դենշապհոյ, նախարարացն Հայոց որք ի դղեկին ի կապանսն էին` արձակել զմանկունս իւրեանց եւ կամ զայլ ոք որ ընդ նոսա լինէին` ի պէտս արբանեկութեան ուր եւ կամիցին:	58:0 King Yazkert entered Hyrcania with the entire mass of the nobility and the troops who were with him. They then permitted residents of the shahastan who were in Niwshapuh in accordance with Denshapuh’s order, to free the children of the captive Armenian naxarars (who were in the fortress) and others who were with them to serve their needs and to let them go wherever they chose:
58:1 Զոր իբրեւ լուան երանելի երիցունքն Խորէն եւ Աբրահամ` վաղվաղակի փութով ի Վրկան հասանէին, եւ անկեալք հրապարակաւ առաջի ամբարապետին Դենշապհոյ` բողոք բարձեալ ասէին, եթէ:	58:1 When the venerable priests Xoren and Abraham heard this, they immediately went to Hyrcania and publicly fell before the ambarapet, Denshapuh, saying in protest:
58:2 Դու յորժամ զհոգեւոր տեարսն մեր եւ զվարդապետս ի Նիւշապհոյ առեր գնացեր, ընդ որս եւ մեք կազմեցաք ուղեկից լինել, եւ դու բռնաբար հրամայեցեր խիստ պահպանութեամբ արգելուլ զմեզ անդէն մինչեւ ցայժմ. արդ եթէ տարեալ ուրեք յերկիր աւտար եւ յանդարձ անցուցէք զնոսա` առնելով բարերարութիւն պատմեցէ՛ք զմեզ, երթալ եւ մեզ լինել անդարձ ընդ նոսա. այլ կեալ անդէն եւ վախճանիլ պատրաստ եմք, տեսանելով եւեթ զնոսա, ցանկամք արժանի լինել. եւ եթէ սպանէք զնոսա` կամեցարո՛ւք եւ ի վերայ մեր տալ զնոյն հրաման, զոր պատուական եւ մեծարգոյ համարէաք զմահն այնպիսի քան զամենայն զփառս եւ զմեծութիւնս աշխարհիս:	58:2 You took our spiritual lords and vardapets from Niwshapuh and departed. We wanted to accompany them, but you forcibly ordered us kept here under stringent guard until now. Should it be that you sent them permanently to a foreign country, do us a good turn and say so, so that we, too, can go there with them and not return. We are prepared to go and die there only to see them, and we hope we will be worthy. But if you killed them, be so kind as to issue the same order about us, for we regard such a death as honorable and exalted above all the glories and greatness of the world:
58:3 Եւ Վեհդենշապուհ լուեալ զայնպիսի բանս ի նոցանէն, եւ ընդ համարձակութիւն աներկիւղածութեան արանցն զարմացեալ ինքն եւ ամենայն բազմութիւն հրապարակին` պատասխանի տուեալ ասաց ցերանելիսն, թէ «Զճանապարհ վարդապետացն ձերոց ոչ ոք ցուցանէ. բայց վասն ձեր հարցանեմք ցարքայից արքայ. նա իշխէ զոր ինչ հրաման տայ ի վերայ ձեր:	58:3 Vehdenshapuh heard these words from them and he and all the multitude of the assembly were amazed at the intrepid boldness of the men. (He) responded to the venerable men: “No one can show the route of your vardapets. But I shall ask the king of kings about you. He will determine what order I should be given about you:
58:4 Եւ մտեալ ի ներքս Դենշապուհ` պատմէր թագաւորին Յազկերտի զամենայն բանս եւ զխնդիրս երանելի երիցանցն:	58:4 Going inside, Denshapuh related to king Yazkert all the words and requests of the venerable priests:
58:5 Եւ թագաւորին հրաման տուեալ ասէ. «Թէ ի նոցա վերայ վնաս ինչ ոք յայտ չ առնէ, եւ դատախազ ոք չէ զհետ` երկիր պագցեն արեգական եւ պատուել զկրակն յանձն առցեն, եւ ընկալեալ զպարգեւս մեծամեծս ի մէնջ` արձակեսցին յաշխարհն իւրեանց. ապա թէ չ հաւանեսցին յանձն առնուլ զմեր հրաման` պատուհաս կրեսցեն խեղութեամբ, եւ երթեալ յԱսորեստան մշակութիւն արասցեն ընդ արքունի մշակսն, եւ ի հարկի կայցեն մինչեւ ցվախճան իւրեանց:	58:5 The king gave this order: “If no one reveals damage they have done, and there is no accuser, then let them worship the sun and agree to honor the fire. Then they will receive very great honors from us and be sent back to their land. But if they do not accept our order, then they will be crippled and go to Asorestan to do mshakut’iwn along with the royal mshaks, and remain in service until the end of their lives:
58:6 Եւ եկեալ Դենշապուհ ասաց ցերանելի երէցն Խորէն եւ ցերանելի երէցն Աբրահամ զհրաման թագաւորին: Եւ լուեալ զայս պատուական քահանայիցն` ետուն պատասխանի որպէս ընդ մի բերան եւ ասեն:	58:6 Denshapuh related the king’s command to the venerable presbyters Xoren and Abraham who, upon hearing it, responded as though in unison, saying:
58:7 Մեք ոչ միայն խեղանաց եւեթ պատրաստ եմք վասն անուանն Քրիստոսի, այլ եւ քերանաց եւ մահու:	58:7 We are prepared not only for crippling, but for flaying and death, for the name of Christ:
58:8 Այլ վասն արեգական երկրպագութեանդ որ ասէք` մեք ընդ ձեր մոլորութեանդ ապշութիւն տրտմեալք խռովիմք, եւ խնդրեմք յԱստուծոյ զգալ ձեզ ի թմրութենէ անգիտութեանդ այդորիկ, թող թէ մեզ նմանել ձեզ. եւ մի՛ լիցի` թողեալ զարարիչն` արարածոց երկիր պագանել:	58:8 And as for what you said about worshipping the sun, we are saddened and disturbed by your crazed madness, and beseech God that he rouses you from the stupor of ignorance, so there is no question of our resembling you (by converting). God forbid that we should abandon the Creator and worship the created:
58:9 Եւ լուեալ զայսպիսի պատասխանիս աներկիւղ` իշխանացն ի բերանոյ երանելի երիցանցն` կատարեցին զհրամայեալսն ի թագաւորէն:	58:9 When the princes heard such a fearless reply from the venerable priests, they implemented the king’s orders:
58:10 Եւ կտրեալ զերկոցունց զականջսն` ետուն տանել յԱսորեստան, ի գաւառն որ անուանեալ կոչի Շափուլ, կալ անդ նոցա ի հարկի եւ առնել մշակութիւն արքունի:	58:10 Having cut off the priests’ ears, they had the priests taken to Asorestan to the district called Shap’ul, to remain there in service and to perform royal mshakut’iwn:
58:11 Եւ լուեալ զայս հաւատացելոցն աշխարհին որք յԱսորեստանին էին, զերթս երանելեացն անդր` ընդ առաջ ելին նոցա խնդութեամբ եւ պատուեցին զնոսա որպէս զնշխարս նահատակելոցն սրբոց. որք եւ արժանի իսկ էին այնպիսի մեծարանաց. նա եւ զկարասի իւրաքանչիւր ուրուք զինչ եւ ունէր` բերեալ դնէին առ ոտս երանելեացն, առնուլ եւ մատակարարել ի պէտս հոգեւոր մասին ի փրկութիւն անձանց իւրեանց եւ ընտանեաց:	58:11 When the believers in the land of Asorestan heard of the coming of these venerable men, they went before them with joy and honored them as though they were remains of the martyred saints. Indeed, they were really deserving of such exaltation. Furthermore, each person brought what equippage and goods he had and laid them at the feet of the venerable ones to take and be used for the spiritual needs of the salvation of each and his family:
58:12 Եւ երանելի երիցանցն ընկալեալ յընծայից հաւատացելոցն ըստ արժանի մասն ինչ` նոցին իսկ տային տանել յԱպար աշխարհ կապելոց նախարարացն Հայոց. որք խնդութեամբ եւ բազում յաւժարութեամբ իւրաքանչիւր ոք աղաչէր զերանելիսն` առնել արժանի այնպիսի հոգեւոր ճանապարհի:	58:12 The venerable priests accepted a fitting portion of the believers’ gifts and sent them to the captive Armenian naxarars in the land of Apar. Each individual, with delight and great enthusiasm, beseeched the venerable ones to make him worthy of such a spiritual journey:
58:13 Էր զի երանելի երէցն Աբրահամ, առեալ զտուրս հարաւային կողմանցն Ասորեստանեացն, տարեալ մատակարարէր կապելոց նահատակացն Հայոց ըստ իւրաքանչիւր պիտոյից. եւ արարեալ զայս այսպէս բազում անգամ կարգաւ՝ քրիստոնէից աշխարհին, եւ ապա իսկ ինքն երանելի երէցն Աբրահամ բազում ամս, մինչեւ յարձակումն կապելոց նախարարացն Հայոց աշխարհին, անվեհեր լինէր նոցա թոշակատար ի հաւատացելոց աշխարհին տուողաց:	58:13 The venerable priest Abraham, taking the gifts from the southern parts of Asorestan, took and offered them to the captive Armenian champions, in accordance with the needs of each. The Christians of the land did these many times in succession, while the venerable priest Abraham was for many years the courageous bearer of provisions taken from the giving believers of the land to the captive naxarars until their release to the land of Armenia:
58:14 Եւ կեցեալ ամս երանելւոյ երիցուն Խորենայ անդէն յԱսորեստանի վախճանիւր:	58:14 After the venerable priest Xoren had lived some years, he died there in Asorestan:
58:15 Իսկ երանելի երէցն Աբրահամ, երաշխաւորութեամբ հաւատացելոց աշխարհին, որք զտունս իւրեանց եւ զարարս փոխանակ ընդ հարկի նորա գրեցին յարքունիս ցվախճան նորա, եւ կատարեցին զկարգեալսն անվեհեր յաղագս նորա, արձակեալ զերանելի այրն` եկն ի Հայս:	58:15 Now with the guarantee of the believers of the land (who had written to the court pledging their homes and goods in exchange for (Abraham’s) service until the time of his death and courageously fulfilling what had been stipulated for him) the venerable man was released and went to Armenia:
58:16 Որոյ տեսն իսկ իւր առանց ամենայն երկբայութեան զկերպարանս հրեշտակի ցուցեալ ծանուցանէր ամենայն տեսողաց զայրն:	58:16 Without any doubt the man’s visage was like that of an angel to the beholders:
58:17 Եւ ձեռնադրեալ յաստիճան եպիսկոպոսութեան աշխարհին Բզնունեաց` բազում ուղղութեանց աշխարհին մարդկան լինէր ուսուցիչ, եւ վախճանէր ի նմին կարգի ի բարւոք ծերութեան:	58:17 He was ordained to the order of the episcopacy of the land of Bznunik’, taught many reforms to the people of the land, and died in good old age, holding the same office:
58:18 Որում արժանի եղիցուք եւ մեք ի Քրիստոս Յիսուս ի տէր մեր, եւ նմա փառք յաւիտեանս. ամէն:	58:18 May we also be worthy of our lord Jesus Christ to Whom glory forever. Amen:
