74:0 Ապա սրտմտեալ ընդ սուտ եւ անպիտան խաւսս արքային Վրաց զաւրավարն Հայոց Վահան Մամիկոնեան, ծանուցեալ եւ զթուլութիւն գնդին Հայոց, զոր տեսանէր լքեալս եւ մեղկեալս եւ ոչ ինչ բնաւ նմանս այլոց ժամանակաց փութոյն եւ յաւժարութեան, սակայն զգունդն զաւրացն կազմէր Մամիկոնեանն Վահան ըստ աւրինի ճակատուն պատրաստութեան:	74:0 Although Armenia’s general, Vahan Mamikonean, was saddened by the false and vain words of the Iberian (Georgian) king, and recognized the weakness of the Armenian brigade (for he noticed that they were forlorn and indolent, in no way resembling their earlier diligence and enthusiasm) nonetheless, Vahan organized them into fronts:
74:1 եւ տուեալ զկողմն աջոյ ի ձեռս Բարշղի Վահեւունւոյ եւ Սատոնի Գաբեղինի, եւ զկողմնն ահեակ տայր Վախթանգայ արքային Վրաց, եւ զմիջոյ կողմնն կազմէր զինքն երեքումբք արամբքն որդւովք երանելւոյն Արշաւրայ, եւ երանելեաւ տերամբն Գնունեաց. եւ զերանելին ասպետն Սահակ եւ զՍիւնին Բաբգէն ընդ մէջ իւր եւ Բարշլի կացուցանէր:	74:1 He entrusted the right wing to Barshgh Vahewuni and Saton Gabeghean; the left wing to Vaxt’ang, the king of Iberia; and he himself organized the center with the two sons of the venerable Arshawir, and the venerable lord of Gnunik’; he placed the venerable aspet Sahak and Babgen Siwni between himself and Barshgh:
74:2 Եւ մինչ չեւ դիմեալք ի կռիւն, այլ կային ճակատեալք երկոքեան կողմանքն դէմ ընդդէմ միմեանց, Պարսից եւ Հայոց, եւ որ զնահատակութեան պսակն ընդունելոց էին յաւուրն` եցոյց վերին զաւրութիւնն հայեցող աչաւք մտացն. եւ յառաջ քան զկատարումնն` յայտնապէս անծածուկ զահագնափոխութիւն երեսացն ի մահկանացու բնական տեսչութենէս ի լուսափայլութիւն վերին զաւրութեանցն կերպարանի, եւ մանաւանդ զքաջութիւնն առնն զՎասակայ Մամիկոնէի, զեղբաւր զաւրավարին Հայոց Վահանայ. որոյ փառաւորեալ երեսքն լուսով փառացն Աստուծոյ, մինչեւ բազումք յընկերակցացն որք նիզակակիցք սրբոյն էին` հայել յերեսսն փայլակնացայտ, ըստ փառաւորելոյ երեսացն մեծի մարգարէին Մովսէսի, ոչ հանդարտէին:	74:2 While the two sides, Iranian and Armenian, were ranged opposite each other, but had not yet begun to fight, the divine power revealed which of the men would receive the crown of martyrdom that day. For the divine power transformed the ordinary mortal aspect of these faces into something radiant. This was clear and evident. One especially saw the bravery of Vasak Mamikonean, brother of Armenia’s general, Vahan, for his face was illuminated with the glory of God. Many of (Vasak’s) comrades, the comrades-in-arms of the blessed man, were unable to restrain themselves when they saw his radiant face which was illuminated like the face of the great prophet Moses:
74:3 Զոր եւ իւր իսկ եղբաւրն մեծի զաւրավարին Հայոց Վահանայ տեսեալ եւ մեծապէս զարհուրեալ` անդէն եւ անդ գիտաց, թէ սա յինէն եւ ի զազրալի կենցաղոյս այսաւր առաւ եւ փոխեցաւ յայն բանակ զուարթնոցն, որոյ բանակի զաւրացն տեսիլ եւ կերպարան այս է:	74:3 Even his own brother, the great general of Armenia, Vahan, looked and was awestruck and realized, then and there, that on that day (Vasak) would be taken from him and from this filthy life and be translated to the army of the joyous, whose soldiers had that same appearance and form:
74:4 Եւ յարձակեալք ի վերայ միմեանց Հայք եւ Պարսիկք, թէպէտ եւ զաւրավարն Հայոց Վահան երիւք Կամսարական եղբարբք հարեալ ի դիմի իւրոյ թշնամւոյն կողմանն, դիր եւ տար արարեալ դարձուցանէին ի փախուստ, մինչեւ տարեալ անցուցանէին զբազումս ի զաւրացն Պարսից յայնկոյս Կուրն գետոյն, եւ զբազումս ի զաւրացն Պարսից յերեւելի արանց զաւրուն կոտորէին քաջաբար:	74:4 The Armenians and Iranians attacked each other. Vahan, the general of Armenia, together with the two Kamsarakan brothers attacked the enemy opposite them and dispersed them causing them to flee, making many of the Iranian troops cross over to the other side of the Kur River, and bravely killing many prominent Iranian warriors:
74:5 Անդ քաջի սեպհին Մամիկոնէից Վասակայ հարեալ նիզակաւ ուժեղապէս զայր ոմն հզաւր ի գնդէն Պարսից յերկիր կործանէր. որ եւ բեկանէր նիզակն իւր յանկարծակի. եւ քաջին Մամիկոնենի Վասակայ ելեալ ի խնդիր այլում նիզակի եւ գտեալ` դառնայր անդրէն փութանակի ուրախալից:	74:5 The valiant Mamikonean sepuh, Vasak, forcefully hit a certain soldier of the Iranian brigade with his spear and sent him crashing to the ground. And, unexpectedly, his spear shattered. Brave Vasak Mamikonean looked for and found another spear, and quickly and happily turned back:
74:6 Եւ պատահեալ նմա Կամսարականին Ներսեհի տեառն Շիրակայ, որոյ եւ նորա բեկեալ նիզակն` ի խնդիր էր այլում նիզակի. եւ քաջի Մամիկոնենին Վասակայ ձայն ի վերայ եդեալ ասէր. «Փութա՛, Ներսեհ, գտանել նիզակ, եւ դարձի՛ր ե՛կ արագ. քանզի ոչ երբէք կարեմք գտանել ժամ սքանչելի այսպիսի վաճառու, ուր մահ զանմահութիւն եւ առժամանակեայս զյաւիտենականն եւ ապականացուս զանապականելի կեանսն. վաղվաղեա՛, քանզի չ եմք կալոց անմահք. գուցէ վրիպեալ յանուանի եւ ի փառաւորեալ կատարմանէս` անանուն եւ անպիտան մահուամբ ելանիցեմք ի կենցաղոյս:	74:6 He encountered Nerseh Kamsarakan, the lord of Shirak, who also had broken his spear and was searching for another. Valiant Vasak Mamikonean cried out: “Hurry and find a spear, Nerseh, and come back quickly. For we shall never find such a wonderful opportunity for transforming death into immortality, the present into eternity, or the corruptible into incorruptible life. Hurry, or we will not attain immortality. Perhaps, having missed the opportunity for a renowned and glorious death, we will later quit this life through a nameless and useless death:
74:7 Եւ զայս լուր ի սրբոյ առնէն Վասակայ Մամիկոնենէ` հաւաստի երդմամբ պատմէր մեզ բազում անգամ ինքն տէրն Շիրակայ Ներսեհ Կամսարականն:	74:7 Many times Nerseh Kamsarakan himself, the lord of Shirak, related to us these words of the blessed Vasak Mamikonean, with a reliable oath:
74:8 Եւ մինչդեռ զաւրավարն Հայոց Մամիկոնեանն Վահան այսպէս մրցէր հանդերձ երանելի եղբարբն Վասակաւ եւ երկոքումբք որդւովքն Կամսարականին Արշաւրայ` յանկարծակի փախուցեալք առ հասարակ սրանային գունդքն ամենայն Հայոց եւ Վրաց. որոց բազումք ի նենգաւորացն աղաղակէին առ միմեանս անհանգիստ, թէ «Փախեան Հայք, անձնապուրք լերուք:	74:8 While Armenia’s general, Vahan Mamikonean, his venerable brother, Vasak, and the two sons of Arshawir Kamsarakan were competing thus, suddenly the entire brigades of Armenians and Iberians quickly fled. Many of the traitors cried out to each other in agitation: “The Armenians are fleeing, escape:
74:9 Եւ վասն զի ոչ ըստ փութոյ եւ յորդոր խնդրոյ շնորհէր ի ժամուն վիճակ մարտիրոսութեան ի վերին զուգակշռող աջոյ ամենագիտին, ըստ ծածուկ եւ անքնին իւրոյ կանխատեսութեանն` քաջի զաւրավարին Հայոց Վահանայ Մամիկոնէի եւ այլոց ընդ նմա ուխտապահ ընկերացն, որ ախորժելով տենչէին բաժակի մարտիրոսութեանն, եւ չ գտան արժանիք, դարձուցեալ այնուհետեւ զերասանակս երիվարացն` գնային եւ նոքա զհետ փախստէիցն Հայոց:	74:9 And because the equitable divine right hand of the Omniscient did not favor them then with martyrdom in accordance with their diligent and eager request, in accordance with his secret and inscrutable providence, the brave general of Armenia, Vahan Mamikonean, and the other oath-keeping comrades who were with him (who fervently desired the cup of martyrdom, but were found unworthy) turned their horses around and went after the fleeing Armenians:
74:10 Եւ զաւրավարին Հայոց Վահանայ Մամիկոնէի եկեալ պատահէր Բաբգենայ Սիւնւոյ, անկելոյ ի զաւրացն Պարսից կարէվէր. զոր հեծուցեալ ի վերայ իւրոյ նժուգի եւ հանեալ ի պատերազմէն ապրեցուցանէր:	74:10 Armenia’s general, Vahan Mamikonean, encountered Babgen Siwni, who had fallen gravely wounded by the Iranian troops. Putting him on his own steed, (Vahan) removed him from the battle and saved him:
74:11 Բայց որք ընտրութեանն ցանկացողք եղեն եւ արժանիք ընդ սրբոյ ասպետի Սահակայ եւ ընդ սրբոյ քաջին Վասակայ Մամիկոնենի, եւ կատարեցան յաւուրն` եւ անուանքն են այսոքիկ:	74:11 But there were those who wanted to be chosen (for martyrdom) and who were found worthy, along with the blessed aspet Sahak and the blessed brave Vasak Mamikonean, and died that day. Their names are as follows:
74:12 Իսկ զաւրքն ամենայն Հայոց, ընդ որս եւ անպիտան զաւրքն Վրաց, հանդերձ թագաւորաւն իւրեանց Վախթանգաւ, վատնեալք ցրուէին. զորոց զկնի հետամուտ եղեալ գունդքն Պարսից` զբազումս կոտորէին, եւ բազումք յայլ եւ այլ տեղիս զերծեալ ապրէին:	74:12 As for the entire Armenian forces as well as the useless Iberian (Georgian) troops together with their king Vaxt’ang, they were dispersed and scattered. The Iranian brigades pursued them and killed many of them, though many others escaped to various places and saved themselves:
74:13 Բայց զՀրահատն Կամսարական, սաստկապէս վազս առեալ երիվարին իւրոյ` ընկենոյր, եւ հասեալ Պարսկացն, մինչդեռ էր հետիոտս` կալեալ ածէին առ Միհրան. զոր տեսեալ Միհրանայ` մեծապէս ուրախացաւ:	74:13 But Hrahat Kamsarakan, after violently racing his horse, fell to the ground and the Iranians reached him while he was on foot, seized him, and took him to Mihran. When Mihran saw him, he was delighted:
74:14 Պատուհասէր զնա բանիւք խստութեան, եւ կապեալ տայր պահել զգուշութեամբ. եւ ուր երթայր յաշխարհիս Հայոց` ընդ իւր շրջեցուցանէր:	74:14 He threatened him with severe words and then had him bound and kept carefully. Wherever (Mihran) went in the land of Armenia, he took (Hrahat) along with him:
74:15 Ընդ որս կալան եւ սեպուհ մի Սիւնի, որում անուն էր Յազդ, եւ զայլս ոմանս ի Վրաց աշխարհէն:	74:15 The Iranians also seized a Siwni sepuh named Yazd, and some others from the land of Iberia:
