46:0 Յայնժամ յառաջ կոչեցեալ թագաւորին զիշխանն Սիւնեաց Վասակ` սկսաւ սաստիկ եւ առաւելապէս զայրացեալ սրտիւ խաւսել ընդ նմա եւ ասել. «Է արդարեւ լուեալ մեր զայդ ամենայն նենգաւոր իրս քո եւ զարարուածս. բայց արդ ա՛ղէ ասա՛. զի՞նչ խորհելով եւ կամ ո՞րպիսի ինչ զմտաւ ածեալ զայդպիսի իրս վնասից իշխեցեր ձեռնարկել եւ գործել:

 46:0 Then the king summoned the prince of Siwnik’, Vasak, to come forward and he began to speak to him in a violent and extremely angry fashion: “Indeed we have heard about all of your duplicitous affairs and actions. But come now, say, what were you imagining, what were you thinking that you dared to undertake and carry out such damaging deeds:

46:1 քանզի դու էիր իշխան եւ գլուխ աշխարհին Հայոց. նախ քաջալերել բանիւ զմարդիկն, զոր եւ նամակացն գրելոց ի քէն, զոր տուեալ մեր կարդալ` ստուգութեամբ տեղեկացաք. երդմնեցուցեալ զվաստակաւոր եւ զայնպիսի պիտանի ծառայն մեր զքաջն Վարդան եւ զընկերակիցս նորա` խաբեցեր նամականիւ առ կայսր եւ առ նորին սպարապետն:

 46:1 For you were the prince and chief of the land of Armenia. First, you encouraged people by words written by you in letters, letters which have been given to us to read, and from which we were accurately informed of this. You made our meritorious and useful servant, the brave Vardan and his comrades swear an oath, and then deceived (us) by letters sent to the emperor and to his sparapet:

46:2 երդմնեցուցեալ նենգով զայնպիսի քաջ եւ պիտանի զվաստակաւորն մեր զՎարդան եւ զայլ ընկերս. եւ դարձեալ գումարեալ զնա զաւրու յԱղուանս` ի վերայ Պարսկաց գումարտակին համարձակեցուցեր երթալ. նենգութեամբ մատնեալ զաշխարհն Արեաց կորուսեր եւ կոտորածի այնչափ իմոց ծառայից Արեաց եւ անարեաց եղեր պատճառ:

 46:2 You duplicitously made such brave, useful, and meritorious men as Vardan and his other comrades swear an oath. Then you sent him with an army to Aghbania (Aghuania) causing him to dare to go against the Iranian forces. You duplicitously betrayed the land of the Aryans, you destroyed and were the cause of the killing of so many of my Aryan and non-Aryan servants:

46:3 Զի զայնպիսի ծառայ մի զմեր, որպէս զՎարդան, եւ կայսր եւ կամ Հոնաց արքայ բռնութեամբ յինէն հանել կամէին` ամենայն Արեաց ուժովս կռուէի, եւ չտայի հանգչել` մինչեւ այսրէն յիս հանէի. եւ արդ` դու ընդ քո ձեռն զայնպիսի աւգտակար ծառայն սպաներ, եւ զմեծ եւ զպիտանի աշխարհ մի կորուսեր, եւ դու իշխեցեր լրբաբար առ մեզ, իբրեւ անգէտս քո նենգաւոր գործոյդ, գալ եւ զմեզ տեսանել:

 46:3 While the emperor or the king of the Huns wanted to forcibly take from me such a servant as our Vardan, with all the strength of the Aryans I fought, and permitted no rest until I had him back. And so, you with your own hand killed such a useful servant, destroyed such a great and advantageous land, and then insolently dared to come and see us, as though we were unaware of your treacherous action:

46:4 Բայց զայս գիտեա՛, զի յայսմ հետէ Սիւնեաց տէր չես. եւ զչարիսն ամենայն, զոր խորհեցար եւ կատարեցեր` կուտեսցի ամենայն ի վերայ չար գլխոյ քո:

 46:4 But know this: from now on you are no longer the lord of Siwnik’, and all the evils which you planned and carried out will now be visited upon your own wicked head:

46:5 Եւ զհարկեր զիմոյ աշխարհին Հայոց եւ կամ զՊարսկացն զոր սպաներն, եւ զկարասին այնչափ զոր հաներ` հրամայեցաք խնդրել ի տանէ քումմէ եւ յորդւոց քոց` մինչեւ վճարեսցի ամենայն:

 46:5 My taxes from the land of Armenia, the Iranians whom you killed, the large amount of equipment which you took—I have ordered that (the value of them) be demanded from your tun and your sons’, until all of it is paid back:

46:6 Իսկ ողորմելի ուխտադրուժն Վասակ թէպէտ եւ կամէր խաւսել ինչ եւ տալ պատասխանի`չդնէր ոք բնաւ ունկն բանից եւ կամ ախորժէր:

 46:6 Now although the pitiful oath-breaker Vasak wanted to say something and to reply, no one listened to his words or wanted to hear them:

46:7 վասն զի ուխտանենգութիւնն սրբոյ Աւետարանին եւ բանն անիծից երանելւոյն առն Աստուծոյ Ղեւոնդի եկեալ հասեալ ի վերայ նորա` պատեալ փակեալ պաշարեցին զնա:

 46:7 For (the consequences of) breaking an oath on the blessed Gospel, and the curse of that blessed man of God, Ghewond, had come upon him, surrounded and trapped him:

46:8 Որ թէպէտ եւ կայր ինչ վաստակս առնն առ Պարսիկս, եւ ջանայր ցուցանել ի ժամուն` եւ այն ոչ ինչ էր աւգուտ, այլ առաւել եւս ի դատախազութիւն եղեալ վնասէին նմա:

 46:8 Although the man enjoyed some merit with the Iranians, and attempted to demonstrate it then, it was no use. Mired even more in accusation, (his words) hurt him:

46:9 Եւ կատարէր առ նա բան սաղմոսերգին, թէ Ի դատաստանէ իւրմէ ելցէ դատապարտեալ, եւ աղաւթք նորա ի մեղս դարձցին:

 46:9 The word of the psalmist was fulfilled regarding him, that “He emerges from his trial accused, and his prayers are turned to sins:

46:10 Հրաման տայր թագաւորն Յազկերտ անդէն զառաջեաւ կողոպտել ի նմանէ թշնամանաւք զամենայն պատիւն զոր ունէր. եւ ձաղկեալ զնա պայկացն մերկացուցին զնա. մերկացուցեալ ի նմանէ զզարդարանս պատուոյ տէրութեանն` հանէին խայտառականաւք արտաքս քան զհրապարակն արքունի:

 46:10 King Yazkert then commanded that all (of Vasak’s) previous honors should be seized from him with insults. The guards beat and stripped him. Stripping him of the ornaments of honor of (his) lordship, they removed him from the court assembly in disgrace:

46:11 Եւ ի նմին աւուր զթշնամին նորա, զսեպուհն սիւնի, զուրացողն զՎարազվաղան` տէր ի վերայ աշխարհին Սիւնեաց կացուցանէին, որոյ որքան ժամանակս կալեալ զիշխանութիւնն Սիւնեաց` բազում արարեալ անիրաւութիւնս եւ բազում տունս մոխրանոցս շինեալ յաշխարհին Սիւնեաց, ի գայթակղութիւն տանն իւրոյ, բազմաժամանակեայ տանջեալ ի դիւէ ըստ յառաջագրելոցն` դառն մահուամբ սատակեցաւ չարաչար:

 46:11 That same day they appointed his enemy, Varazvaghan, the apostate sepuh of Siwnik’, as lord of the land of Siwnik’. During the entire time that (Varazvaghan) held the authority in Siwnik’, he worked many injustices, and constructed numerous fire-temples in the land of Siwnik’, to the scandal of his House. As mentioned above, after being tormented for a long time by a dew, he died a wicked, bitter death:

46:12 Եւ նենգաւորն Վասակ կացեալ ի դրանն ամս ինչ կարի վշտագին եւ նեղութեամբ բազմաւ`մաշէր զաւուրս իւր հառաչելով եւ յոգւոց հանելով զամենայն աւր եւ զժամ. մինչեւ թշնամանակերպ ձաղանաւք սփռեալ զթաթս ձեռաց իւրոց` ինքնին զիւրոյին ծեծէր զդէմսն, ասելով:

 46:12 The treacherous Vasak stayed at the court some years very grieved and experiencing great difficulties. He spent his days sighing and lamenting every day and every hour, to the point that he started beating his own face with his hand in hostile derision, saying:

46:13 Ահա ընկա՛լ զայս ձաղսս, ասէր, զոր ետ բերել քեզ ուխտանենգութիւն սրբոյ Աւետարանին եւ արիւն նահատակութեան սրբոյն Վարդանայ Մամիկոնէի եւ այլոցն ցանկալի հաղորդելոցն ընդ նմա, որոց ժառանգեալ զյաւիտենից կեանսն` ընկալան զանուն բարի յերկրի եւ անանց ազգաց յազգս իւրեանց:

 46:13 Behold, you have fallen into this dishonorable state, which was brought on by your violation of an oath sworn on the holy Gospel, and by the martyrs’ blood of the blessed Vardan Mamikonean and of other worthy people who cooperated with him. They have inherited eternal life and left on earth a good and permanent name for themselves for all time:

46:14 Իսկ դու, ասէ, մեղաւո՛ր անձն իմ, կեաս խղճիւ եւ ցաւովք մտաց զսակաւաթիւ զաւուրս կենցաղոյս, եւ պատրաստեալ պահիս մշտնջենաւոր եւ անանց գեհենին»: Եւ զայսպիսի բանս հառաչանաց նորա եւ լալոյ մինչեւ յաւր մահուան իւրոյ` խաւսէին ընդ մեզ զայս արդարապատումն սպասաւորք նորին իշխանին Վասակայ:

 46:14 But you, sinner, (are fated) to spend the few remaining days of your life in remorse and pain, and eternal unending Gehena is ready and waiting for you.” We were accurately informed about his sighs and tears which lasted until the day of his death, by prince Vasak’s own attendants:

46:15 Որոյ եւ վախճանն իւր անդէն յերկիրն Պարսից վճարէր, ըստ բանի սրբոյ առն Աստուծոյ Ղեւոնդի:

 46:15 That blessed man of God, Ghewond, related that (Vasak) died there in the country of Iran:
