3:51 Եւ այսպէս ամ յամէ ժողովէին՝ ըստ իւրաքանչիւր կարի մարդկանն, ոմն սակաւ եւ ոմն շատ, ոյր զինչ եւ ի ձեռս պատրաստութիւն լինէր, եթէ դրամոց եւ եթէ դահեկանաց, ժողովէին կազմէին տային յերանելիսն՝ տանել նոցա:

 3:51 Thus, they gathered year by year according to each person’s ability, one a little, another much, what people had ready to hand, be it dirhems or dahekans; these they collected and gave to the blessed ones to take to them:

3:52 Եւ այսպէս յարբանեկութեան կային, մինչեւ տասն ամն լցաւ սպասաւորութեանն:

 3:52 And in this fashion, they ministered until ten years of service were completed:

3:53 Եւ վասն զի յոյժ խստագոյնս պահէին ի ջերմոջ աշխարհին, եւ անդադար էին ի ճանապարհորդութեանն ընդ նոյն Շահուղ, ընդ Մեշովն եւ ընդ Քաշկար եւ ընդ ամենայն Ասորեստան եւ Խուժաստան, սաստիկ տապով հարեալ ի խորշակէ մեռանէր սուրբն Խորէն, եւ աւանդեալ լինէր ի բնակչաց աշխարհին ընդ սուրբ վկայսն:

 3:53 Because they were strictly guarded in that torrid country and were continually on the move through that same Shahul, and through Meshov and Kashkar and all Asorestan and Khuzhastan, afflicted by the great heat. Saint Khoren died from the scorching wind and was buried by the inhabitants of the land with the holy martyrs:

3:54 Իսկ երանելին Աբրահամ կայր ի նմին առաքինութեան անդադար. եւ զամենայն տուրս հաւատացելոցն շրջէր ժողովէր եւ տանէր ի մեծ հեռաստանն, եւ ինքն մատակարարէր ըստ իւրաքանչիւր կարաւտութեան:

 3:54 But the blessed Abraham ceaselessly continued the same life of virtue. He went around collecting all the gifts of the faithful, brought them to far distant parts, and distributed them himself according to individual needs:

3:55 Եւ այնպէս յերկարեցաւ մինչեւ յերկոտասաներորդ ամն պատժաւորացն, մինչեւ աղաչել զնա միաբան ամենեցուն, զի հաւանեսցի երթալ յաշխարհն Հայոց. զի ընդ մտանել նորա առ նոսա՝ ի նմա տեսցեն եւ զքաջ նահատակսն, որք կատարեցան սրով, ի նմա տեսցեն եւ զսուրբ կապանս չարչարանացն:

 3:55 This he continued doing until the twelfth year of their condemnation with the result that all unanimously begged him to agree to go to Armenia, so that when he came among the Armenians, they might see in him the brave champions who had been martyred by the sword, and they might see in him also the holy chains of their tortures:

3:56 Եւ յորժամ մարտիրոսք եւ խոստովանողք եւ կապեալք նովաւ տեսանին, նովաւ աւրհնի աշխարհն ամենայն, նովաւ աւրհնին եւ տղայք նոցա յաճումն, նովաւ զգաստանան երիտասարդք նոցա ի սրբութիւն, նովաւ համեստանան ծերք նոցա յիմաստութիւն, նովաւ ուսանին իշխանք նոցա զմարդասիրութիւն, նովաւ անկանի գութ յԱստուծոյ ի սիրտ թագաւորին՝ շինել եւ խաղաղութիւն առնել բոլոր աշխարհին:

 3:56 When the martyrs and confessors and prisoners were seen in him, through him the whole country was blessed. Through him their children were blessed as they grew up; through him their youths were rendered discreet and pure; through him their old men became modest and wise; through him their princes learned benevolence; through him mercy fell from God into the heart of the king to make the whole land prosperous and peaceful:

3:57 Նովաւ եկեղեցիքն պարծին իբրեւ քաջ եւ կատարեալ զինուոր, նովաւ վկայարանքն զարդարին, նովաւ եւ վկայքն ցնծացեալ բերկրին:

 3:57 In him the churches gloried as in a brave and perfect warrior, by him the martyrs’ shrines were adorned, and in him the martyrs delighted and rejoiced:

3:58 Նովաւ եւ դաշտն Աւարայրի պայծառացեալ ծաղկալից լինի, ոչ յանձրեւաբեր ամպոց, այլ ի սուրբ եւ յարիւնաբուխ վկայից ցանեալ եւ ցրուեալ սպիտակութիւն սուրբ ոսկերացն:

 3:58 Through him the plain of Avarayr was gloriously bedecked with flowers—not by the rain-bringing clouds, but by the holy martyrs who had shed their blood and scattered their white, sacred bones:

3:59 Յորժամ կոխեսցեն ամենավաստակ ոտք խոստովանողին զլայնատարած տեղիս պատերազմին, թէպէտ եւ երկիր իցէ ըստ բնութեան, յորժամ կենդանի մարտիրոս ընդ նա շրջեսցի, կենդանի առ կենդանիս երթեալ՝ ամենայն աշխարհին կրկին լինի կենդանութիւնն:

 3:59 When the confessor’s much-enduring feet walked over the extensive site of the battle, although the ground remained in its natural state, yet when the living martyr walked across it the living came to the living and the whole land came to life once more:

3:60 Գիտեմք, ասեն, յորժամ տեսցեն զսա ամենայն միայնակեացք աշխարհին Հայոց, սովաւ յիշեսցեն զհոգեւոր գունդս պատերազմողացն, որ փոխանակ մեր, ասեն, ետուն զանձինս ի մահ, եւ հեղին զարիւնս իւրեանց ի հաշտութիւն պատարագ Աստուծոյ:

 3:60 We know,” they said, “that when all the monks of Armenia see him, through him they will recall the spiritual ranks of warriors who gave themselves to death for our sake and spilled their blood as a propitiatory sacrifice to God:

3:61 Սովաւ յիշեսցեն զսուրբ քահանայսն, որք խողխողեցան յաւտարութեանս եւ ցածուցին զսրտմտութիւն բարկութեան թագաւորին:

 3:61 Through him they will remember the holy priests who were slain in foreign lands and appeased the wrathful anger of the king:

3:62 Սովաւ թերեւս եւ զմեր կապանս յիշեսցեն, եւ աղաւթս առնելով խնդրեսցեն յԱստուծոյ զի գերեդարձ լիցի մեզ անդրէն ի հայրենի երկիրն մեր:

 3:62 Through him perhaps they will also remember our bonds, and in their prayers will ask God that we may return from captivity to our native land:

3:63 Քանզի յոյժ անձկացեալ եմք՝ ոչ միայն ըստ մարմնոյ կարաւտութեան, այլ առաւել տեսանել զսուրբ եկեղեցիսն մեր եւ զսրբասէր պաշտաւնեայսն մեր, զոր ի նմա կարգեալ հաստատեցաք:

 3:63 For we are extremely anxious, not merely for our bodily wants, but more specially to see our holy churches and pious ministers that we have established there:

3:64 Եւ եթէ միւսովս յաջողեսցէ մեզ Աստուած երթալ եւ լնուլ զկարաւտութիւն մնացելոցն, գիտեմք զի եւ մեզ բանայ Աստուած զդուռն ողորմութեան իւրոյ՝ ընդ նոյն ճանապարհ երթալ, ընդ որ ոտք սրբոյս կարապետեն:

 3:64 And if God will favor us once more to go and fulfill the needs of the survivors, we know that God will also open for us the door of his mercy, that we may follow the same path previously trodden by the feet of this saint:

3:65 Զայս խորհուրդ խորհելով աստուածաշնորհ նախարարացն՝ մեծաւ թախանձանաւք ածէին զխոստովանողն ի հաւանութիւն:

 3:65 With these thoughts in mind, the inspired nobles, after much entreating, brought the confessor to agreement:

3:66 Եւ վասն զի ոչ էր սովորութիւն երբէք բարւոյն ընդդէմ դառնալ, ըստ առաջին սովորութեան եւ յայսմ վայրի փութացաւ վաղվաղակի կատարել զհրամանն զմիաբան հաւանեցելոցն յաստուածային առաքինութիւնն:

 3:66 Since he had never had the habit of opposing the good, on this occasion too he hastened to fulfill immediately the command of those unanimously agreed on divine virtue:

3:67 Եկն եմուտ յաշխարհն Հայոց Մեծաց:

 3:67 So, he came to the land of Greater Armenia:

3:68 Փութացան եւ ելին ընդ առաջ նորա վաղվաղակի արք եւ կանայք, մեծամեծք եւ փոքունք, եւ ամենայն բազմութիւն ազատաց եւ շինականաց:

 3:68 straightaway there made haste to meet him men and women, the greatest and the least, all the multitude of nobles and peasants:

3:69 Անկանէին եւ փարէին զոտիւք եւ զձեռաւք առաջի սրբոյն եւ ասէին. «Աւրհնեա՜լ Տէր Աստուած ի բարձունս, որ առաքեաց մեզ զհրեշտակ յերկնից՝ բերել մեզ զաւետիս յարութեան, զի լինիցիմք ժառանգք արքայութեան:

 3:69 Falling down before the saint they embraced his feet and hands, saying: “Blessed be the Lord God on high who has sent us this angel from heaven to bring us the news of the Resurrection, so that we may become heirs of the kingdom:

3:70 Զի ահա ի քեզ կերպարանեալ տեսանեմք զամենեսեան զհրաժարեալսն յուսով յարութեամբ, եւ զկապեալսն ակնկալութեամբ արձակելով:

 3:70 For behold we see figured in you all those who have departed in hope of the Resurrection and those imprisoned in the expectation of release:

3:71 Ի քեզ տեսանեմք եւ զաշխարհիս շինութիւն խաղաղութեամբ. քեւ եկեղեցիքն մեր ցնծացեալ բերկրին, եւ քեւ սուրբ վկայքն մեր անդադար լիցին մեզ ի բարեխաւսութիւն առ Աստուած:

 3:71 In you we see the restoration of our land in peace; in you our churches take delight and joy; and through you our holy martyrs will be ceaselessly interceding before God:

3:72 Աւրհնեա՜ զմեզ, սուրբ հայր մեր. դու ես բերան հանգուցելոցն, խաւսեաց ընդ մեզ յայտնի աւրհնութեամբ, զի յոգիս մեր լուիցուք ի ծածուկ զաւրհնութիւնս սրբոցն:

 3:72 Bless us, our holy father. You are the mouth of the dead; speak with us in open blessing that we may hear secretly in our souls the blessings of the saints:

3:73 Հորդեցեր ճանապարհ այնոցիկ, որ անձկացեալ էին գալ յերկիր իւրեանց. խնդրեա յԱստուծոյ զի ստէպ եկեսցեն զհետ սուրբ կարապետիդ:

 3:73 You have opened the path for those who are longing to return to their land. Beg God that they may quickly follow your holy lead:

3:74 Եւ որպէս հորդեցեր զարգելեալ ճանապարհ երկրի, բա՛ց եւ յերկինս զդուռն աղաւթից մերոց, զի եւ մեր մեղաւորաց մտցեն պաղատանք առաջի Աստուծոյ ի բարեխաւսութիւն նոցին կապելոց. եւ մինչդեռ եմք յելանելի մարմինս, որպէս տեսաք զքո զերանելի սրբութիւնդ, տեսցուք եւ զսիրելի անձկալիսն մեր, որ ի բազում ժամանակաց հարեալ եւ պաշարեալ եմք յոգիս եւ ի մարմինս մեր:

 3:74 And just as you opened the road closed on earth, open also in heaven the gate for our prayers, so that the supplications of us sinners may enter before God in intercession for those same prisoners. And while we are in this impermanent body, as we have seen your blessed sanctity, so may we—who have long been oppressed and beset in our souls and bodies—also see our dear loved ones:

3:75 Արդ հաւատամք յանսուտ յոյսն, զի որպէս լցեալ կատարեցաւ մեծ տեսիլս ի սուրբ սէր քո, այսպէս եւ ընդ մաւտոյ ունիմք տեսանել զճշմարիտ վկայսն Քրիստոսի, որ հանապազ խանդակաթ եմք ի տեսիլս երկնաւոր գեղոյ նոցա:

 3:75 We believe with infallible hope that just as we finally were granted the sight of your holy love, so also we may soon be able to see the true martyrs of Christ, as we are continuously desirous to behold their heavenly beauty:
