15:0 Եւ տանուտերացն Հայոց, որոց խոստացեալ էր զկաթողիկոսութիւնն Սուրմակայ արծկեցի երիցուն՝ նստուցին զնա յաթոռ կաթողիկոսութեան Հայոց:	15:0 The Armenian tanuters who had promised the kat’oghikosate to the presbyter Surmak Arckec’i, seated him on the throne of the kat’oghikosate of Armenia:
15:1 Որում, յետ սակաւ ինչ ժամանակի անցելոյ, ընդդիմացեալ ոմանց ի զաւրավար իշխանացն Հայոց` մերժեալ ընկեցին զնա յիշխանութենէ կաթողիկոսութեանն:	15:1 But a short time later, resisted by some princely generals of Armenia, they rejected and removed him from the authority of the kat’oghikosate:
15:2 Եւ յայնմհետէ առաքեցաւ նախ ի Վռամայ արքայէն Պարսից յաշխարհս Հայոց մարզպան պարսիկ. եւ յայնմհետէ եղեն ի սպառ ի սպառ անկեալք ընդ լծով ծառայութեան անաւրէն ազգին Պարսից:	15:2 Thereafter an Iranian marzpan was sent to the land of Armenia by Vahram king of Iran. Then (the Armenians] fell completely under the burden of servitude to the impious Iranian people:
15:3 Եւ կատարեալ ել ի գլուխ բանն անիծից մեծի քահանայապետին Ներսէսի, զոր յաղագս առաւելապէս աճեցեալ աւր քան զաւր ի թագաւորական տոհմին Արշակունեաց գործք անաւրէնութեան չարեացն, զոր կամակար համարձակութեամբ միշտ գործէին անամաւթեալք:	15:3 The curse of the great patriarch Nerses was thus realized. (This curse had been pronounced] because of the daily increase in deeds of impure wickedness within the royal Arsacid tohm which they were always shamelessly doing with enthusiastic boldness:
15:4 Մանաւանդ յորժամ ետես սուրբն Ներսէս եւ զմահն արդար, զոր հասոյցն նենգութեամբ Արշակ ի վերայ Գնելայ եղբաւրորդւոյն իւրոյ, եւ չ կարացեալ հանդուրժել այնպիսի անաւրէն գործոց սուրբ այրն Աստուծոյ Ներսէս` զայրագնեալ սրտիւ, ըստ գրելոցն ի պատմութեան երկրորդումն, ի ճառին հնգետասաներորդի, ասաց, թէ:	15:4 When saint Nerses observed the unjust death which Arshak treacherously inflicted on his own brother’s son Gnel, he was especially aroused and was unable to tolerate such impious deeds. Thus Nerses, the holy man of God, with an enraged heart said the following:
15:5 Փոխանակ զի յաճախեցեր ի չարիս մեծամեծս առաւել քան զհայրն քո Տիրան եւ քան զայլ նմանիսն քո, որք եղեն չարք եւ ամբարիշտք յազգէդ Արշակունեաց, եւ ոչ նմանեալ նախանձեցար լաւացն եւ առաքինի արանց եղելոց ի տոհմին քում, որոց ժառանգեալ զպատիւ թագաւորութեան հարց իւրեանց` առաւել եւս փութացան լինել ժառանգաւորք բարի գործոց արքայութեանն:	15:5 You wrought very great evils, more than did your father Tiran, more than your other ancestors who were evil and unrighteous (members] of the Arsacid line. You did not strive to resemble the good and virtuous men of your tohm, who, having inherited the honor of the kingship of their fathers, strived even more to be the heirs of (their] good deeds of virtue:
15:6 այլ աւր քան զաւր աճեցուցեալ ի քեզ առանց պատկառանաց զամենայն պղծագործութիւնս լցեալ կատարեցեր. ի վերայ ամենայնի այդորիկ գտար պատճառս հեղման արդար արեան եղբաւրորդւոյն քո Գնելոյ. արդ եղիցիս դու հեղեալ յերկիր իբրեւ զջուր լուալեաց, եւ ի լարել աղեղան Բարձրելոյն տկարասջիր:	15:6 But (in your case] day by day, without embarrassment you increased and carried out all kinds of obscenities. Moreover, you found reason to shed the innocent blood of your nephew, Gnel. Now you will be dumped on the ground like water which had been used for washing, and you will weaken when the bow from On High is strung:
15:7 Եւ կործանումն, որ բերանով մարգարէին ասացաւ` հասցէ ի վերայ ձեր, ըմպել ազգիդ Արշակունեաց զյետին բաժակն. արբջիք, արբեսջիք եւ կործանեսջիք, եւ այլ մի՛ հաստատեսջիք:	15:7 And the destruction described by the prophet will be visited upon you: ’The Arsacid line will drink the last cup. You will drink, become drunk, be destroyed, and not reestablished. ’:
15:8 Հանդերձ եւ այլ եւս ծանր եւ ահագին յաւելուածովք, զոր ասացեալ է սրբոյ քահանայապետին ի վերայ ազգին Արշակունեաց:	15:8 Other heavy and awesome additions were made to the words pronounced by the blessed patriarch over the Arsacid line:
15:9 Խնդրեցին այնուհետեւ իւրեանց նախարարքն Հայոց յարքունուստ կաթողիկոս, եւ թագաւորն Վռամ ետ նոցա զԲրքիշոյ զոմն անուն, այր յազգէ Ասորւոց. որ եկեալ յաշխարհն Հայոց իւրովք գաւառակցաւք, որք կէին լոյծ կրաւնիւք, եկեալք ընդ նմա յԱսորեստանէ, ըստ սովորութեան իւրեանց աշխարհին` տանտիկնաւք. եւ ոչ կէին ըստ սուրբ եւ ամբիծ կրաւնիցն, զոր եդեալ էր եւ կարգեալ յամենայն եկեղեցիս Հայոց` սրբոյ նահատակին Գրիգորի:	15:9 Then the naxarars of Armenia requested a kat’oghikos from the court, and king Vahram gave them a certain Syrian named Brk’isho. He came to the land of Armenia with people from his district who had come with him from Syria practising their dissolute religion, in accordance with their custom, with mistresses. And they did not live in accordance with the holy and pure religion which had been set and established in all the churches of Armenia by the blessed champion Gregory:
15:10 Եւ տաղտկացեալ մեծամեծ տանուտեարքն Հայոց եւ աւագ սեպուհքն եւ ամենայն ժողովրդոցն բազմութիւնք ընդ վարս մարդկան, որք եկեալ էին ընդ կաթողիկոսին Բրքիշոյի, որ ոչ հաւասարեալ հանգոյն էին կանոնի եւ վարդապետութեան հրեշտակակրաւն կարգաւորութեամբ սրբոյ նահատակին Գրիգորի, որով վարժեալ զամենեսեան սնոյց եւ հաստատեաց ըստ վերին քաղաքավարութեանն:	15:10 The grandee tanuters of Armenia, the senior sepuhs and the entire multitude of the people became disgusted with the behavior of the people who had come with the kat’oghikos Brk’isho which in no way resembled the canon and doctrine of the angelic faith set forth by the blessed champion Gregory who taught, nourished, and established all according to heavenly policy:
15:11 Առաւել եւս սուգ առեալ հեծէին անմխիթար սքանչելի քահանայք սուրբ եկեղեցւոյ, որ յառաքելանման աջոյ սուրբ հայրապետին Սահակայ ձեռնադրեալք էին:	15:11 The marvellous priests of the holy Church who had been ordained by the right hand of the blessed patriarch Sahak—which resembled an Apostle’s—mourned and wept even more unconsolably:
15:12 Եւ չ կարացեալք հանդուրժել առ ի յերկարս այսպիսի զեղխ եւ անարժան կարգի` խոտեալ մերժեցին զԲրքիշոյն ի քահանայապետութենէն Հայոց, ծանուցանելով թագաւորին Վռամայ, եթէ «Ոչ են կարգք սորա եւ վարք ըստ կարգի մերոյ աշխարհի ուսման. բայց ա՛յլ այր տուր մեզ առաջնորդ ըստ մերում բնիկ կարգիս, որ եղեալ վերակացու` կալցի հաստատուն զկարգ սուրբ եկեղեցւոյ:	15:12 Unable to long endure such a foul and unworthy arrangement, they scorned Brk’isho and rejected him from the patriarchate of Armenia. They told king Vahram that “His customs and ways are not those of the teachings of our land. Give us another man as a leader, someone of our native order, who will be a supervisor, and firmly keep the order of the holy Church:
15:13 Եւ Վռամայ արքային հաւանեալ կամաւ խնդրոյն նոցա` տայր նոցա դարձեալ կաթողիկոս այլ ասորի, որում անուն էր Շամուէլ:	15:13 King Vahram acceded to their request, and gave them as kat’oghikos another Syrian named Shamuel:
15:14 Որ եկեալ յաշխարհս Հայոց` կայր եւ նա նոյնպէս ըստ կրաւնիցն Բրքիշոյի, եւ սակաւ ինչ կացեալ ժամանակս` վախճանէր յաշխարհիս Հայոց:	15:14 He came to the land of Armenia and conducted himself in accordance with Brk’isho’s faith. After a short while (Shamuel] died in the land of Armenia:
