51:0 Յաղագս թէ զիա՛րդ միաբան համօրէն աշխարհօրէն` որ միանգամ մնացեալք յաշխարհին` ժողովէին առ Ներսէս կաթողիկոսն Հայոց, եւ զբողոք հարկանէին առաջի նորա, եւ ձեռնթափ լինէին, եւ թողին ի ձեռաց զիւրեանց թագաւորն Արշակ:

 51:0 Those lords remaining in the land assemble in complete unanimity before their patriarch Nerses and complain to him; and how they withdrew from and abandoned their king Arshak:

51:1 Ապա ժողովեցան մարդիկ ամենայն աշխարհին իշխանութեանն թագաւորութեանն Հայոց, եւ եկին առ մեծ եպիսկոպոսապետն Հայոց Ներսէս, մեծամեծք նախարարք կուսակալք կողմակալք գաւառատեարք գործակալք եւ դասապետք շինականաց:

 51:1 Then people of all the land of the authority of the Armenian kingdom assembled and came to the great archbishop of Armenia, Nerses. They were: the grandee naxarars, lieutenants, governors, lords of districts, officials, and the dasapets of the shinakans:

51:2 Ի մի վայր եկեալ ժողովեցան, խօսել սկսան ընդ Ներսիսի եւ ասեն. Դու, տէր, քեզէն գիտես, զի այս երեսուն ամ է թագաւորին մերոյ Արշակայ, զի ոչ մի ամ մեզ հանգիստ ոչ եղեւ ի պատերազմէ. եւ համակ սրով եւ սուսերօք եւ ի սլաքս եւ ի տէգս նիզակաց զքրտունս երեսաց մերոց ջնջեցաք:

 51:2 They assembled in one place and began speaking with Nerses, saying: “You yourself know, lord, that it is now thirty years that our king Arshak has given us not one year’s rest from warfare. We have wiped the sweat from our brows with sword, sabre, dart, and lance tips:

51:3 Եւ արդ ոչ կարեմք այսմ զժոյժ ունել. եւ ոչ այլ կարեմք տալ ճակատս. զի լաւ է մեզ` թէ ծառայեսցուք մեք թագաւորին Պարսից որպէս ընկերքն մեր արարին, զի թողին զնա եւ գնացին առ թագաւորն Պարսից. եւ մեք սոյնպէս առնելոց եմք, զի ոչ այլ եւս կարեմք կռուել:

 51:3 We are unable to stand it anymore, nor are we able to fight anymore. It is better that we leave Arshak and go to the king of Iran as our comrades who are serving him, have done. We shall do this, because we are unable to fight further:

51:4 Թէպէտ իցէ թագաւորին Արշակայ կռուել ընդ Շապհոյ, Վասակաւ եւ Անդուկաւ աներաւ իւրով տացէ պատերազմ. այլ յայսմիկ Հայոց աշխարհէս եւ ոչ մի այր ոչ ոք է երթալոց ի թիկունս օգնականութեան նորա:

 51:4 If king Arshak would fight with Shapuh, let him fight with Vasak and with Andovk, his father-in-law. But hereafter none of us from the land of Armenia will go to his assistance:

51:5 Նմա եթէ պէտ իցէ, տացէ պատերազմ, թէ պէտ մի՛. մեր թողեալ զնա` մեզ չէ փոյթ:

 51:5 Let him fight or not as he feels the need; we are leaving him and do not care:

51:6 Իսկ սուրբն Ներսէս խօսէր ընդ նոսա որպէս օրէն էր, եթէ տեսէք եւ քաջ զմտաւ ածէք եւ յիշեցէք զբանն տեառն պատուիրանին միաբանութեամբ, որպէս պատուիրեացն ծառայից` հնազանդ կալ տէրանց իւրեանց:

 51:6 Now the blessed Nerses spoke with them as was necessary, saying: “Think well and remember the Lord’s commandment about unity, that servants should obey their lords:

51:7 Զի ամենեքեան դուք աւադիկ կայք եւ վկայէք, մանաւանդ զի ամենեքեան դուք կեցեալ էք յազգէդ արշակունոյ. ոմանք ի ձէնջ գաւառատեարք լեալք ի նոցանէն, եւ ոմանք մեծամեծք աշխարհաց, ոմանք աւագ աւագ աւանաց գեղից եւ գանձուց տեարք լեալ էք, եւ պէսպէս դաստակերտացն:

 51:7 You are all testifying that you will leave the Arsacid azg. Because of them, some of you became lords of districts, some the grandees of lands, some the lords of very senior awan villages and treasures and of diverse dastakerts:

51:8 Զի թէպէտ եւ առ արարիչն Աստուած յանցաւոր իցեն պեղծ ազգն Արշակունեաց, սակայն զձեզ կեցուցեալ զամենեսեան եւ յաղբոյ թօթափեալ է, զոմն գործով, զոմն պատուով, զոմն իշխանութեամբ, զոմն գործակալութեամբ:

 51:8 Although the abominable azg of the Arsacids is guilty before God the Creator, nonetheless they supported all of you and removed you from the garbage-heap giving some work, some patiw, some authority, some office:

51:9 Զի թէպէտ եւ առ Աստուած մեղաւոր է Արշակ արքայ, եւ պարտական է տոկոսեաց արարչին իւրոյ` առ ի տանել նմա վրէժս, սակայն Աստուած վասն բազում եւ անչափ մարդասիրութեան իւրոյ` խնայեաց ի նա, եւ վասն նորա ի ձեզ:

 51:9 For although king Arshak is guilty before God and will have to pay interest for his sins to his creator, and suffer vengeance, nonetheless because of God’s abundant and unlimited love of humanity, He has spared him, and because of him, you:

51:10 Եւ դուք աւադիկ կամիք անկանել հեթանոսաց ի ծառայութիւն, եւ կորուսանել զկեանս ձեր յԱստուծոյ, եւ մերժել զբնակ տեարսն ձեր` զորս տուեալ է ձեզ յԱստուծոյ, եւ օտար տերանց ծառայեալ, եւ նոցին անաստուած կրօնիցն ցանկալ:

 51:10 You, lo, want to go and serve the pagans, to lose your life in God, to reject your bnik lords whom God gave you, to serve foreign lords, and you long for their godless religion:

51:11 Բայց լաւ լիցի ձեզ զնոյն սիրել եւ յանձն առնուլ, եւ նմին հաւանել, եւ ոչ մերժել յանձանց ձերոց զարարչապաշտ թագաւորն:

 51:11 But it would be better for you to love God, accept and consent to Him and not to reject your God-loving king:

51:12 Զի թէ բեւր չար իցէ Արշակ, սակայն աստուածապաշտ է. եւ եթէ մեղաւոր եւս իցէ, սակայն թագաւոր ձեր է. որպէս եւ դուքդ ասացէք առաջի իմ, թէ այսչափ ամք են` զի մարտեայք եւս ի վերայ անձանց ձերոց եւ հոգւոց, ի վերայ աշխարհի, ի վերայ կանանց եւ որդւոց ձերոց:

 51:12 For though Arshak is extremely wicked, nonetheless he is pious; though he is guilty, nonetheless he is your king. You yourselves have said in my presence how many years it has been that you have been fighting for yourselves, your souls, your land, your women and children:

51:13 Եւ որ մեծն է քան զամենայն, ի վերայ եկեղեցեաց ձերոց, ի վերայ ուխտի հաւատոց ձերոց, զոր ունիմք ի տէր մեր Յիսուս Քրիստոս. եւ համակ տէր ետ ձեզ յաղթութիւն անուան իւրոյ:

 51:13 and, what is principal, for your churches, for the covenant of the faith which you have through the name of Jesus Christ, and you said that the Lord has always granted you the victory for His name:

51:14 Եւ արդ կամիք փոխանակ Քրիստոսի արարչին ձերոյ` ծառայել ձեզ անաստուածն մոգութեան անօրինացն եւ նոցուն պաշտօնէիցն, ի թողուլ նախ զարարիչն մեր եւ զնորուն պատուիրանս` զոր պատուիրեաց ձեզ, միամիտ կալ առ տեարսն մարմնաւորս` զորս նորայն արարեալ է. գուցէ բարկացեալ տէր Աստուած ձեր, եւ խլիցէ զձեզ արմատաքի, եւ մատնեսցէ զձեզ հեթանոսացն ի չար ծառայութիւն ստրկութեանն մինչեւ յաւիտեան, եւ ոչ երբէք բարձցի լուծն ծառայութեան ի ձէնջ:

 51:14 But now, in place of Christ your creator, you want to serve the godless impieties of magianism and to follow their clerics, abandoning our Creator and His commandments that one must remain faithful to one’s temporal lords whom He created. Perhaps the Lord God too will get angry at you and uproot you, and betray you to the hand of the pagans so that you slavishly serve them for eternity, and perhaps He will never remove the yoke of servitude from you:

51:15 Եւ բողոքէք դուք առ տէր, եւ նա ոչ լսիցէ ձեզ. վասն զի անձամբ անկանիք դուք ի ծառայութիւն հեթանոս տերանց եւ անաստուած անգէտ մարդկան, ի ձեռս հեթանոս արանց տերանց խստասրտաց. եւ բազում չարի դիպեալ ելանիցէ առաջի ձեր, եւ ոչ կարիցէք ճողոպրել յայնմանէ:

 51:15 And if you protest to the Lord, He will not hear you, because you yourselves entered into the service of pagan lords and godless, ignorant men, and so will be delivered over to pagans and hard-hearted lords. Many many evils will arise before you and you will be unable to escape:

51:16 Իսկ նոքա, որ միանգամ էին ի մի վայր ժողովեալ, զաղաղակ հարկանէին. քարոզ կարդացեալ` միմեանց ձայն առնէին, շփոթէին ամբոխէին, եւ ասէին. Հա՛պա գնասցուք, ասեն, սփռեցարուք յիւրաքանչիւր տեղիս, զի այդմ բանից մեք ինչ ոչ կամիմք լսել:

 51:16 But those who were assembled there raised a clamor, shouted to each other, creating commotion and crowding and saying: “Come on, let’s go each to his own place, for we cannot heed such words:

51:17 Սփռեցան յիւրաքանչիւր տունս իւրեանց:

 51:17 And they all dispersed to their own tuns:
