10:226 Տիրաբար հրաման տուր ի ներքս, եւ ամենայն որ ինչ եւ ասես՝ վաղվաղակի կատարի:	10:226 Give an imperial command within and whatever you say will be carried out immediately:
10:227 Եւ անդէն թագաւորն ի ներքս կոչեցեալ զդպրապետն, հրամայէր գրել հրովարտակ. եւ ոչ եւս ըստ սովորութեանն, այլ բանս զայրագինս իբր առ ատելիս եւ անպիտանս, չ յիշելով ամենեւին զմեծամեծ վաստակս տիրասէր մարդկանն. այլ միայն կոչոյ հրաման տուեալ յականէ յանուանէ զարս, զոր ինքն ճանաչէր, որոց անուանքն են այս:	10:227 Then the king summoned the chief-scribe and commanded him to write an edict —not in the usual fashion but in angry terms as if to hateful and vile people, not at all recalling the great services of these loyal men but merely summoning by name the men whom he knew personally. Their names were:

10:238 Զայս նախարարքս յականէ յանուանէ կոչեցին ի դուռն արքունի, եւ կէսքն առ նմա իսկ էին ի կարաւանին, եւ այլքն ի կողմանց հիւսիսոյ ի Հոնաց պահակին. թողեալ էր զոմանս ի նախարարացն անդէն յաշխարհին Հայոց:	10:238 These princes were summoned by name to the royal court. Some of them were already by him in the army, others were in the garrison of the Huns in the north, and some of the princes he had left in Armenia:
10:239 Արդ թէպէտ եւ ոչ համագունդ ի միոջ վայրի դիպեցան ամենեքեան, սակայն յառաջագոյն գիտացեալ զխորհուրդս չարաբարոյ բռնաւորին, եւ զհեռաւորսն եւս իբրեւ զմերձաւորս ի միոջ վայրի առ միմեանս համարէին:	10:239 So, although they did not happen to be all united in one place, nonetheless they realized in advance the plot of the wicked tyrant, and they thought of themselves, including the most distant, as close to one another in one spot:
10:240 Եւ ի ձեռն սրբոյն Յովսեփու եպիսկոպոսի նովին ուխտիւ հաստատեալ՝ խաղացին գնացին յիւրաքանչիւր տեղեաց ի դուռն արքունի:	10:240 Strengthened by the holy bishop Joseph in the same faith, they journeyed from each one’s place to the royal court:
10:241 Եւ յոյժ փութային վասն եղբարց եւ որդեաց եւ սիրելի դայեկասնունդ բնակացն, որ չարաչար կային ի մեծի նեղութեանն:	10:241 They made great haste for the sake of their brothers, and sons, and dear foster friends, who were in sore affliction:
10:242 Վասն որոյ եւ նոքա զանձինս ի մահ մատնեցին՝ ոչ ինչ զանգիտելով իբրեւ զանարի վատասիրտս. այլ յոյժ քաջութեամբ պնդեցին զանձինս, զի թերեւս կարասցեն փրկել զնոսա ի մեծամեծ հարուածոցն:	10:242 Therefore, they committed themselves to death, not hesitating like ignoble cowards; but they bravely strengthened themselves, that perchance they might be able to save them from severe torments:
10:243 Եւ իբրեւ հասին ի դուռն արքունի, ի մեծի շաբաթու զատկին յանդիման լինէին թագաւորին:	10:243 When they arrived at the royal court they appeared before the king on the holy Easter Saturday:
10:244 Բայց թէպէտ եւ տեսանէին զեղբարս իւրեանց ի մեծամեծ վիշտս տառապանաց, որ վասն անուանն Քրիստոսի ճգնեալք էին պնդապէս, ոչ ինչ տրտում եւ տխուր զերեսս ցուցանէին հրապարակին:	10:244 But although they saw their own brothers in great trouble and affliction—who had steadfastly endured for the sake of Christ’s name—they did not show sad or solemn faces in public:
10:245 Եւ որչափ նոքա զուարթագին երեւէին ամենեցուն, առաւել զարմանային չարասէրքն:	10:245 And the more they appeared joyful to everyone, the more the lovers of evil were astonished:
10:246 Եւ զի աւրէնք էին յառաջ ժամանակաւ, յորժամ ի Հայոց այրուձի ի դուռն երթայր ի ձեռն պատուաւորի զաւրագլխի ուրուք, այր ընդ առաջ յղէր, եւ հարցանէր զողջոյն եւ զխաղաղութիւն Հայոց աշխարհին, եւ երկիցս եւ երիցս անգամ զնոյն առնէր, եւ զհանդէս գնդին ինքնին տեսանէր եւ յառաջ քան ի գործ պատերազմին հասանել զգալն իսկ առ նա՝ մեծ շնորհակալութիւն համարէր, եւ առաջի աթոռակցացն իւրոց եւ ամենայն մեծամեծացն՝ գովութիւն մատուցանէր ամենեցուն, եւ յիշէր զնախնեացն զվաստակս, եւ զառն առն քաջութիւն պատմէր նոցա:	10:246 It was the rule in former times, when the cavalry from Armenia went to the court under some distinguished general, for him (the shah) to send a man to meet them, to greet them, and inquire about the welfare of Armenia; he would do the same twice and three times and in person review the force. Before they went out to war, he would greatly thank them for coming to him, and in front of his companions and all the magnates he would praise them all and recall the services of their ancestors and rehearse the brave deeds of each man:
10:247 Իսկ այն աւր եւ ոչ մի ինչ յայսցանէ ամենեւին ինչ ոչ յիշեաց. այլ իբրեւ զչարադեւ մի՝ ոչ դադարէր յուզել եւ շարժել զբուք ձմերայնւոյ:	10:247 But on that day, he remembered nothing at all of these customs, but like an evil demon he did not cease provoking and stirring up a winter snowstorm:
10:248 Որպէս եւ նմանեալ իսկ էր ծովածուփ ալէկոծ խռովութեան, ոչ դուզնաքեայ վեր ի վերոյ, այլ անդստին յանդնդոց բարձրանայր փրփրեալ կուտակեալ, վիշապաձայն որոտալով, գազանաբար գոչելով առհասարակ դողացուցանէր զտիեզերական զիւր իշխանութիւնն, որպէս զի փլեալ տարածանիցի համատարած ամենայն ի վերայ լերանց, խորոց, ձորոց՝ ապականել միանգամայն զլայնութիւն դաշտացն վայելչութեան:	10:248 He resembled the tumult of the surging wave-tossed sea; not insignificantly and superficially, but from the bottommost depths he rose in a mass of foam, thundering like a dragon and roaring like a wild beast, shaking his whole worldwide empire as if it would crash and scatter in its entirety over the hills, hollows, and valleys to destroy completely the beauty of the extensive plains:
10:249 Մռնչելով բարբառ արձակեալ եւ ասէ. «Երդուեալ իմ յարեգակն, ի մեծն աստուած, որ ճառագայթիւքն իւրովք լուսաւորէ զամենայն տիեզերս, եւ ջերմութեամբն կենդանածնէ զամենայն գոյացեալսն, եթէ ոչ վաղիւ ընդ առաւաւտն, ընդ երեւումն սքանչելւոյն, ընդ իս իւրաքանչիւր ծունր նմա ոչ կրկնեսջիք՝ խոստովանելով զնա աստուած, ոչ ինչ թողացուցից ձեզ՝ զամենայն նեղութիւնս չարչարանացն ի վերայ ածելով, մինչեւ ակամայ կատարիցէք զկամս հրամանաց իմոց:	10:249 He raised his voice in a bellow and note: “I have sworn by the sun, the great god who with his rays illuminates the whole universe and with his warmth gives life to all existing things, unless tomorrow morning, at the rising of the splendid one, each of you bends his knee to him with me, confessing him as god, I shall not cease to bring upon you every form of affliction and torture until you fulfill the desires of my commands, though unwillingly:
10:250 Իսկ հաւատացեալքն հաստատեալք ի Քրիստոս՝ ոչ ի սառնամանեաց ձմերայնւոյն հովանային, եւ ոչ ի տապոյ խորշակին ջեռնուին, եւ ոչ յահագին ձայնէն սարսէին, եւ ոչ ի սպառնալեաց տանջանացն զանգիտէին. այլ ի վեր հայեցեալք՝ զզաւրութիւնն Քրիստոսի յաւգնութիւն եկեալ տեսանէին, եւ զուարթագին դիմաւք եւ համեստ բանիւք յառաջ մատուցեալ՝ տային պատասխանի թագաւորին:	10:250 But the Christians, firm in Christ, were not chilled by the icy blasts of winter or burned by the scorching heat, nor did they tremble at the fearsome voice or hesitate at the threats of tortures. But looking up they saw the power of Christ coming to their aid, and approaching with joyful faces and modest words they replied to the king:
10:251 Խնդրեմք ի քէն, արքայ քաջ, ունկն դիր սակաւ բանից մերոց, եւ քաղցրութեամբ լուր զոր ասելոցս եմք:	10:251 We beg you, noble sovereign, give ear to our words and listen kindly to what we have to say:
