57:0 Յաղագս յառնելոյ ի վերայ արքային Աշոտոյ Վասկայ, եւ Աշոտոյ եւ պարտելոյ ի սմանէ:	57:0 The Uprising of Vasak and Ashot against King Ashot, and Their Defeat at the Hands of the Latter:
57:1 Իսկ ապա թագաւորն Աշոտ արքայորդին չուէր գնայր երթայր հասանէր ի կողմանս Գուգարաց մերձ յամրոցն մեծ, որ ի լեզու Վրաց Շամշուլդէ, այսինքն՝ Երեք նետն անուանի. Վասն զի հօր նորա զազգսն զայնոսիկ շուրջ զամրոցաւն սեպհականացուցեալ էր իւր եւ զեղբարս երկուս՝ Վասակ եւ Աշոտ ի տոհմէ Գնթունեաց բերդապահս եւ վերակացուս նահանգին այնմիկ կացուցեալ:	57:1 Thereupon, king Ashot, the son of king (Smbat), came to the region of Gugark’ near the great fortress which is called Shamshulde in Georgian, that is, ’three arrows’. For his father had reduced the people living in the vicinity of the fortress to submission, and appointed Vasak and Ashot, two brothers of the Gnt’uni house, as commanders of the fortress and overseers of that province:
57:2 Իսկ սա զնոյն հնազանդութեան կարգ առ ի նոցանէն առ իւր պահանջէր գալ ի մտերմութիւն ծառայութեան:	57:2 Ashot, in turn, demanded that they serve him in the same manner of subservience:
57:3 Եւ վասն զի նուազունս եւ սակաւս անդր գտանէր ռոճիկս զօրացն. վասն այնորիկ զզօրսն իւր ի մօտակայ գաւառն առաքէր երթալ հոգալ գտանել զապրուստ իւրեանց՝ մինչեւ անդրէն ընդ կրունկն ինքն դարձցի:	57:3 And as there was a very small amount of provisions for the soldiers there, he sent his forces to the nearby district, so that they would be able to provide for their livelihood, until he returned from there:
57:4 Եւ ինքն ապա վայելուչ եղբարբն Աբասաւ եւ երկերիւր յիսուն արամբք երթեալ առկայացեալ դարէր դադարէր մերձ յամրոցն՝ որ կոչէր Սակուրէթ:	57:4 He himself, accompanied by his handsome brother Abas and two hundred fifty men, halted near the fortress called Sakuret’:
57:5 Իսկ Վասակ եւ Աշոտ իբրեւ տեսին զայն, թէ կարաւան սպային սպառ սպուռ առ ի նմանէ պակասեալ է եւ առ ի յումեքէ հուպ ընդ հուպ չ իք նմա օգնականութիւն. այնուհետեւ սոնքացեալք ստուարացեալք եւ կիցս ընկեցեալք՝ միանգամայն իսկ գումարտակ զզօրս իւրեանց առնէին ծածկաբար, ընդ ինքեան ունելով եւ զսիրելիսն իւրեանց յանբոկ գործոյն զսպայազօրսն Տփխեաց եւ զծործորոցն Կովկասու, եւ իբրեւ արանց աւելի քան զչորեք հազարաց սուսերամերկաց վահանաւորաց նիզակաւորաց վաղակաւորաց. եւ ապա յեղակարծումն ժամու ի վերայ հասեալ՝ ասպատակ սփռէին:	57:5 But when Vasak and Ashot saw that the numbers of his forces had considerably decreased, and that no help was available from anyone in his immediate vicinity, they became arrogant and gross, and stirring up much commotion, secretly summoned all of their forces; in order to carry out their task, they also took along their families, as well as the detachments in Tiflis, and those in the glens of the Caucasus, all in all more than four thousand men, comprising swordsmen, shield-bearers, lance-bearers, and dagger bearers, and attacked unexpectedly:
57:6 Իսկ զայնպիսի նոցա տեսեալ սաստիկ հէնս եւ գռոյթս բազմութեան զօրաց զիւրեամբք շուրջ պատեալ՝ ապա բազմապաղատ արտասուօք յօգնականութիւն զբարձր բազուկն Տեառն Աստուծոյ կարդային, որ կարողն է միով զհազարսն հալածել:	57:6 When they (the king’s men) saw the great multitudes of the enemy forces surrounding them, with many tears and implorations they called upon the high arm of the Lord, Who could pursue a thousand foes with one hand:
57:7 եւ կնքեալ զինքեանս նշանաւ խաչին՝ ահագին իմն դղրդմամբ ճակատս մարտից ընդդէմ յարդարէին եւ արիաբար առնաբար առնազէն ասպազէն ի վերայ շահատակեալք՝ առ ի քթթել ական վաղվաղակի հերձեալ ընդ մէջ զջոլիրս ասպարափակ ռազմին բազմութեան ընդ կրունկն դարձուցանէին. եւ երկերիւրօք միայն արամբքն զչորեք հազար սպառազէնս նոցա ջնջեալ ջարդեալ վանեալ վարատէին:	57:7 Then, crossing themselves with the sign of the cross, they arrayed their lines of battle with a huge outroar, and armed with the manly armor of horsemen, they bravely and vigorously rushed upon them. At the twinkling of an eye they quickly cut through the multitudes protected by shields, and routed them. With only two hundred men they were able to cut down and disperse four thousand armed soldiers of the enemy:
57:8 Զոմանս ի սուր սուսերի եւ ի սլաքս նետից եւ ի տէգս նիզակաց հաշեալ մաշեալ սատակէին. զոմանս իսկ ձերբակալ արարեալ զՍառակինոսսն սատակէին. եւ զոմանց զունչս եւ զականջսն կտրէին:	57:8 Some of the latter they put to the sword, or shot them with arrows and struck them down with lances. On the other hand, having captured certain Saracens, they put some of them to death, and amputated the noses as well as ears of the rest:
57:9 իսկ ի քրիստոնեայս խնայեալ կապուտ կողոպուտ արարեալ զնոսա թողուին երթալ գնալ ի բաց, եւ գրեթէ ոչ ոք ի նոցանէ ճողոպրեալ գտանէր, բայց միայն Վասակն սակաւ արամբք փախստեայ անկեալ յամրոցն Շամշուլդէ:	57:9 However, they spared the Christians, whom they let loose after ravaging their possessions. Almost no one escaped, save for Vasak, who took refuge with a few of his men in the fortress of Shamshulde:
57:10 Արդ՝ այս այսպէս իրագործեալ, քանզի որպէս նկանակն Գեդէոնի դարձեալ հոլովեալ ի բանակն այլազգեաց եւ լիզաջինջ զնոսա արարեալ՝ ինքն Աշոտ եղբարբն իւրով դառնայ գնայ խնդութեամբ եւ յաղթութեամբ բազմաւ եւ մեծաւ աւարաւ զկողմամբք Վրաց աշխարհին առ յաւէտ սիրեցեալն իւրեանց իշխանն Գուրգէն:	57:10 Thus did they carry out this task, for like Gideon’s cake of barley they tumbled into the host of the foreigners and completely annihilated them. Ashot himself together with his brother returned victoriously and joyfully with much booty to the region of Iberia, to his most beloved friend, prince Gurgen:
57:11 Բայց հեզահամբոյր իշխանն Սիւնեաց ընդ կրունկն յարքայորդւոյն դարձեալ յԱրագած լեռնէ անտի՝ չուէ հանդիպի եղբարց իւրոց երեցունց՝ Սահակայ Սիւնեաց տեառն եւ Բաբգէնի Վասակայ. Վասն զի նոքա դեռ ընդ դեռ եկեալ անցեալ էին յաշխարհ տէրութեան իւրեանց ի փախստէնէ անտի հրոսակի նոցա Յուսփայ:	57:11 But the peaceful prince of Siwnik’ took leave of the son of the king at Mount Aragac, and turning back he set forth to meet his three brothers, Sahak, the lord of Siwnik’, Babgen and Vasak, who had returned recently to their domains after escaping the attack of Yusuf:
57:12 Եւ ապա վայելչաբար սիրով ի միասին միախորհուրդք զմիտս կառավարեալք՝ տիրէին ի վերայ սեպհական իշխանութեանն իւրեանց. գուն ի վերայ գործել շինել եւ նորոգել զհայրենի տէրութիւնն՝ զանկեալն եւ զկործանեալն ի թշնամեաց:	57:12 Subsequently, being of one mind in wonderful harmony, they ruled over their ancestral domain, and tried to renovate and rebuild their paternal realm, which had been subverted and destroyed by the enemy:
57:13 Այլ եւ կանայք եւս երկաքանչիւրոցն եղբարց գրաւեալքն ի գերութեան՝ զերծեալք ի ձեռաց գերչացն, յետ երկեամ մի գային հանգչէին ի գահս եւ ի սենեակս տերանց իւրեանց:	57:13 Also the respective wives of the brothers who had been taken captive were delivered from the hands of their captors after a period of two years, and returned to the tranquility of the court and chamber of their lords:
57:14 Բայց եւ Հայկազուն եւս եղբարքն Սահակ եւ Վասակ՝ բնաբար կուսակալք գաւառացն որ շուրջ զեզերբ Ծովակին Գեղամայ, յայսմ ի սոյն աւուրս եկեալք ի հեռաստանէ հալածանացն՝ տիրէին պայազատեալք զաշխարհս տէրութեան իւրեանց:	57:14 It was at that time, that the Hayk-descended brothers Sahak and Vasak, the legitimate satraps of the districts that surround the Sea of Gegham, returned from the distant land of their expatriation, and took over the rule of their hereditary realm:
