32:0 Պատերազմ ի դաշտին Եղեվարդայ եւ պարտութիւն Պարսից. այլ պատերազմ ի դաշտին Շիրակայ եւ պարտութիւն Յունաց Երրորդ պատերազմ ի Ծաղկոտն: Անձնատուր լինել Թէոդոսի Խորխոռունւոյ զաւրավարին Պարսից. երթալ ի դուռն արքունի եւ ապա սպանանել:

 32:0 Battle on the plain of Ełevard and the Persian defeat. Another battle on the plain of Shirak and the Greek defeat. A third battle in Tsałkotn. T’ēodos Khorkhoṙuni surrenders to the Persian general; he goes to the royal court and then is killed:

32:1 Իսկ Ջուանն Վեհ, զոր արձակեաց ի կողմանս Հայոց հանդերձ զաւրու իւրով՝ երթեալ հասանէ յԱյրարատ գաւառ եւ ի Դուին քաղաք ի ձմերային ժամանակի, եւ դադարեալ հանգուցանէ զզաւրս իւր մինչեւ ի գալ հասանել գարնայնոյ ժամանակի:

 32:1 Now Juan Veh, whom he had sent with his army to Armenian territory, reached the province of Ayrarat and the city of Dvin in the wintertime. He stayed there, resting his troops, until springtime arrived:

32:2 Յայնժամ ապա եւ զաւրն Յունաց ժողովեալ գումարեցան ի քաղաքագեւղն Եղեվարդ. եւ հասեալ ի վերայ նոցա զաւրն Պարսից՝ եղեւ պատերազմ ի դաշտին Եղեվարդայ. հարին զզաւրն Պարսից եւ կործանեցին կործանմամբ մեծաւ. եւ սպանին զզաւրավարն ի պատերազմին. եւ զմնացեալսն փախստական արարեալ հալածական տանէին:

 32:2 Then the Greek army assembled in the komopolis Ełevard. The Persian army attacked them and a battle took place on the plain of Ełevard. They defeated the Persian army and destroyed them with great slaughter. They slew the general in the battle, put the survivors to flight, and pursued them:

32:3 Եւ առեալ զառ եւ զաւար զբանակին Պարսից՝ դարձան ի բանակետղն իւրեանց, որ կայ ի վերայ գետեզերն, որ կոչի Հոռոմոց մարգ:

 32:3 After plundering the Persian camp, they returned to their own encampment which was on the river bank called Hoṙomots’ marg:

32:4 Եւ եղեւ ի գալ ամին միւսոյ, մինչդեռ արքայ Խոսրով մարտնչէր ընդ Դարա քաղաքի, գումարեցաւ այլ զաւր Պարսից ի կողմանս Հայոց, եւ Դատոյեան զաւրագլուխ նոցա: Եւ զաւրն Յունաց գումարեցան ի դաշտն Շիրակ եւ ի գեւղն, որ կոչի Շիրակաւան: Եւ անդ զետեղեալ դադարեցան աւուրս ինչ, եւ ինքեանք տագնապեալք յընտանի պատերազմէն եւ զարհուրեալք յարձակմանէ աւտար թշնամւոյն:

 32:4 When the next year came round, while king Khosrov was still attacking the city of Dara, another Persian army assembled in Armenian territory, with Datoyean as their general. The Greek army assembled at the plain of Shirak, at the village called Shirakawan. There they stayed for a few days, being themselves alarmed at the internal conflict and terrified of an assault by a foreign enemy:

32:5 Եւ զաւրն Պարսից հասեալ ի վերայ նոցա իբրեւ զխոյանալ արծուոյ: Իսկ նոցա թողեալ զտեղի բանակին իւրեանց՝ անցին յայնկոյս գետոյն ի դաշտն, որ կոչի Ականից. եւ զաւրն Պարսից հետամուտ եղեալ հասանէին նոցա: Եւ լինի պատերազմն ի գեւղն որ կոչի Գետիկ:

 32:5 The Persian army rushed upon them like the swooping of an eagle. Then they abandoned the site of their camp and crossed to the other side of the river onto the plain called Akank’, while the Persian army came up on them in pursuit. There was a battle in the village called Getik:

32:6 Եւ մինչդեռ սոքա ճակատեալ էին դէմ յանդիման գալ եւ մերձենալ առ միմեանս, իսկ բնակիչք գաւառին, որ էին ժողովեալ ի բերդն Երգինայի, եւ ելեալ անտի բազմութեան մանկտւոյ գերանդեաւք եւ սրիանաւք անկան ի վերջոյ նոցա, եւ գործեցին մեծ աւճիր վնասուց, թողին վիրաւորս, եւ առեալ զառ եւ զաւար եւ զկապուտ՝ գնացին ի բերդն իւրեանց:

 32:6 While these (armies) were drawing up their lines to confront and approach each other, the inhabitants of the province had gathered in the fortress of Erginay. A multitude of young men came out from there and fell upon their rear with scythes and sickles. They caused great losses, left (many) wounded, seized plunder and booty, and returned to their own fortress:

32:7 Եւ նոցա բաղխեալ պատերազմաւ՝ փախստական լինէր զաւրն Յունաց առաջի նոցա: Իսկ նոցա զհետ մտեալ կոտորէին զբազումս ի դաշտացն եւ ի ճանապարհացն ցիր եւ թաւալ կացուցանէին: Եւ սակաւք մնացեալք փախստեայս գնացին: Իսկ նոցա առեալ զառ եւ զաւարն՝ գնացին ի բանակն իւրեանց: Եւ իբրեւ տեսին զեղեալ չարութիւնն՝ համագունդ արշաւեալ ի բերդն՝ առեալ զնա, զբազումս սրով սատակեցին. եւ բազումք գահավէժ լինէին յահէ անտի. եւ կէսքն ելեալ ընդ դուռնն՝ որ բանայր ի կողմն գետոյն՝ փախստական գնային, եւ զայսն ամենայն ի գերութիւն վարեցին:

 32:7 Defeated in battle, the Greek army fled before them. The latter, in pursuit, slew many and left them scattered over the plains and roads. The few survivors fled. Then they took the booty and returned to their own camp. When they saw the losses that had occurred, they attacked the fortress in unison, captured it, and slaughtered many with the sword. Many jumped down (from the wall) out of fear, while some went out by the gate which opened on the side of the river, and fled. All the others they led into captivity:

32:8 Եւ գերեցան յաւուր յայնմիկ ի բերդէն յայնմանէ գեւղք [ԼԳ]: Եւ զամենայն նոյնպէս ի գերութիւն վարեցին, եւ ժողովեալ զամենայն զառ եւ զաւար գաւառին. եւ զաւրքն դարձան եւ գնացին յԱտրպատական:

 32:8 On that day the population of [33] villages were captured from that fortress; and in like fashion they took them all into captivity. They gathered all the booty of the province, and their army returned to Atrpatakan:

32:9 Ապա եկն Սենիտամ Խոսրով: Եւ զաւրն Յունաց գումարեալ նստան ի Ծաղկոտանն, մերձ ի գեւղն որ կոչի Անգղն, ընդ որ անցանէ գետն Արածանի. եւ ի միւս կողմանէ քակեալ զգեւղն՝ ածին ամրութիւն շուրջ զինքեամբ: Եւ զաւրագլուխ նոցա Թէոդոս Խորխոռունի: Եւ զաւրն Պարսից եկեալ բանակեցան մերձ առ նոսա ի թիկանց կողմանէ. եւ նոքա զարհուրեալ խաւսեցան ընդ նոսա, նախ՝ ի խաղաղութիւն, ասացին ոչ ունել պատերազմ, այլ թողուլ զբերդն եւ երթալ խաղաղութեամբ:

 32:9 Then Senitam Khosrov came. The Greek army assembled and settled in Tsałkotn, near to the village called Angł by which the river Aratsani passes. Destroying the village on the other side, they made a fortification around themselves. Their general was T’ēodos Khorkhoṙuni. The Persian army came and camped near them to their rear. The former (the Greeks), in fright, at first parleyed with them for peace. They proposed that battle be avoided, and they would give up the fortress and go away peacefully:

32:10 Ապա միաբանք եղեալ՝ ոչ հաստատեցաւ բանն, այլ վստահացեալ յամրութիւն իւրեանց կարծէին առնել ինչ: Եւ եղեւ ի վաղիւ անդր դիմեաց գնաց ի վերայ նոցա զաւրն Պարսից: Եւ ոչ ոք արկանէր ի նոցանէն զէն զանձամբ իւրով, եւ կամ թամբէր զերիվար իւր: Եւ թէ ոք զինէր զանձն կամ թամբէր զերիվար՝ հասանէին մանկունք իշխանացն, եւ հանեալ ի բաց ձգէին զզէնն, չարաչար տանջելով զարսն, եւ զգաւտիս երիվարացն սրով հատանէին:

 32:10 But then they agreed (among themselves), and the proposal was not confirmed. Trusting in their fortification, they thought that they could accomplish something. The next day the Persian army attacked them. Not a single one of them had put on his arms or saddled his horse. And if anyone had armed himself or saddled his horse, the retainers of the princes came up, stripped off the arms, greatly hurting the men, and cut the horses’ girths with the sword:

32:11 Եւ եկեալ զաւրն Պարսից ճակատեցան մերձ առ նոսա դէմ յանդիման ի դաշտին կողմանէ, եւ ձգեալ բազմութեանն զաւրու աղեղնաւորացն, եւ թափեցին ի նոսա զկապարճս իւրեանց, եւ ծակոտէին նետիւք իւրեանց առ հասարակ զամենայն արս եւ զերիվարս: Եւ ընդոստուցեալ ամենայն երիվարք, որ կապեալ էին առ մսուրս առ իւրաքանչիւր դրան խորանաց, ընթադրեալ առաթուր հարկանէին զխորանսն եւ զբանակսն ամենայն:

 32:11 The Persian army came up and formed their opposing line near to them on the side of the plain. The multitude of their force of archers drew (their bows) and emptied their quivers on them, piercing with their arrows all the men and horses alike. The horses, who were tied up at their boxes at the door of each tent, all became agitated; they trampled the tents and the whole camp:

32:12 Եւ թշնամւոյն հատեալ զամրութիւնն՝ անկաւ ի բանակն, եւ անհնարին լինէր կոտորածն. եւ նոցա հատեալ զտեղի մի, ոմանք հետեւակք եւ ոմանք հեծեալք յանկումուղի ձի, ելին եւ գնացին փախստական: Եւ Թէոդոս Խորխոռունի անկեալ ի բերդն ամրանայր. եւ նստան նոքա անդէն յայնմ գիշերի ի նոցուն բանակատեղն: Եւ եղեւ ընդ առաւաւտն, պատգամ արձակէին, զի թողցեն զբերդն եւ գնասցեն իւրեանց կարասեաւն եւ ամենայն կազմածովն:

 32:12 The enemy pierced the fortification and poured into the camp; there was a terrible slaughter. (The Greeks) broke down one section (of the wall) and escaped in flight, some on foot and others on horseback. T’ēodos Khorkhoṙuni took refuge and entrenched himself in the fortress. The Persians remained there that night in the others’ encampment. In the morning they sent a message that they should abandon the fortress and depart with their baggage and all their equipment:

32:13 Եւ յանձին կալեալ նոցա առնել այնպէս: Եւ յաւուրն երրորդի բացին զդուռն քաղաքին, եւ ելին գնացին ամենեքեան ըստ ասացելումն բանին: Իսկ զԹէոդոսն Խորխոռունի կոչէր զաւրավարն Պարսից եւ ասէր ցնա. «Ոչ ունիմ իշխանութիւն արձակել զքեզ առանց արքունի հրամանի, այլ տաց տանել զքեզ ի դուռն, եւ գրեցից վասն քոյ առ արքայ զամենայն բանս բարութեան, եթէ որպէս միամտութեամբ եւ տիրասիրութեամբ գործեցեր, զի զզաւրս նոցա ի ձեռս մեր այնպէս մատնեցեր, եւ ապա զբերդդ առանց աշխատութեան որպէս ետուր մեզ, եւ երկիր կամաւք քովք ի ծառայութիւն:

 32:13 They (the Greeks) agreed to do so. On the third day they opened the gate of the town, and they all departed according to the terms of the agreement. But the Persian general summoned T’ēodos Khorkhoṙuni and said to him: ’I do not have authority to let you go without royal permission, but I shall have you taken to court. However, I shall write only kind words regarding you to the king - how you acted sincerely and loyally, for you delivered their army into our hands in that fashion; and then how you delivered the fortress without trouble and the land into subjection of your own will. ’:

32:14 Եւ գրեաց ըստ նմին բանի, եւ ետ տանել զնա ի դուռն: Եւ արքայ Խոսրով սիրով ընկալաւ զնա, եւ կարգեաց նմա ռոճիկս եւ հանդերձագինս յարքունուստ: Բայց յապա ժամանակիս եղեալ կարծիս նենգութեան՝ հրամայեաց սպանանել: Իսկ ի բերդին Անգեղ նստուցեալ բերդակալ, եւ գումարեալ զզաւրս իւր գնաց ինքն ի ներքսագոյն եւ նուաճեաց զերկիրն ի ծառայութիւն:

 32:14 He wrote according to that promise and had him taken to court. King Khosrov received him in friendly fashion, and appointed a stipend for him and a clothing allowance from the treasury. But in later times a suspicion of treachery arose, and he ordered him to be killed. In the fortress of Angł he installed a commander; then gathering his forces he himself marched to the interior and subjected the land:

32:15 Եւ եղեւ յետ այնորիկ միւսանգամ պատերազմն ի կողմանս Բասենոյ, եւ եհար զՅոյնն եւ հալածեաց. եւ փախստական արարեալ ընկենոյր յերկիրն իւրեանց: Եւ կալաւ նա քաղաքս՝ զԱնգղ եւ զԳայլատուս, զԵրգինայ, եւ ի Դարային զքաղաքն Ծխնկերտի: Եւ հրաման հասեալ յարքայէն՝ գնաց:

 32:15 After this there was once more a battle in the region of Basean. He defeated and expelled the Greeks, and putting them to flight he pursued them into their own territory. He captured the cities of Angł, Gaylatuk’, Erginay, and at Dara the city of Tskhnakert. When a command came from the king, he departed:
