7:0 Յաղագս մարտի պատերազմին հինին եկելոց յարշաւանաց թագաւորին Մազքթաց յաշխարհն իշխանութեան Հայոց թագաւորին, եւ կամ ո՛րպէս սատակեցաւ նա զօրօքն իւրովք հանդերձ:

 7:0 The war which resulted from an invasion of the brigand king of the Mazkutk into the land under the sway of the king of Armenia. How Sanesan perished with his troops:

7:1 Յայնմ ժամանակի թագաւոր Մազքթաց Սանէսան անհնարին նիւթեաց զսրտմտութիւն ոխութեան ընդ իւրում ազգակցին Խոսրովու արքային Հայոց, եւ գումարեաց ժողովեաց զամենայն զօրս Հոնաց եւ Փոխաց, Թաւասպարաց, Հեճմատակաց, Իժմախաց, Գաթաց եւ Գղուարաց, Գուգարաց, Շչբաց եւ Ճղբաց եւ Բաղասճաց եւ Եգերսուանացն, եւ այլոց խառնաղանճ բազմութեամբք, անթիւ բանակն վաչկատուն զօրութեանց, որում միանգամ ինքն իշխէր զօրացն բազմաց:

 7:1 In that period Sanesan, king of the Mazkutk, grew unbelievably rancorously angry at his relative, Xosrov, king of Armenia. He assembled all the troops of Honk’ and P’oxs, T’awaspars, Hechmataks, Izhmaxs, Gat’s and Gghuars, Gugars, Shch’bs and Chghbs and Baghaschs and Egersuans, with a multitude of other rabble, a countless army of nomadic troops many of which he himself ruled:

7:2 Եկն անց ըստ իւր սահմանն ընդ գետն մեծ ընդ Կուր, եւ եկն տարածեցաւ ելից զերկիրն Հայոց աշխարհին:

 7:2 He crossed his border, the great Kur river, and came and filled up the country of the land of the Armenians:

7:3 Եւ չգոյր թիւ բազմութեան հեծելազօր գնդացն, եւ ոչ համար շերտաւոր հետեւակ զօրուն. զի եւ ինքեանք զինքեանս զիւրեանց զօրսն թուել ոչ կարէին:

 7:3 There was no counting the multitude of his cavalry brigades or the infantry troops armed with spears, and indeed, they themselves were unable to count their own men:

7:4 Բայց ուր լինէր հանդէս, ի նշանաւոր տեղիս գնդի գնդի, դրօշու դրօշու, վաշտուց վաշտուց, յերեւելի յերեւելի տեղեաց` մէն մի բռնաքար առ այր հրամայէին, զի բերցեն ընկեսցեն` շեղջ կուտել. զի որչափ լիցի, այնու երեւեսցի նշանակ բազմութեանն, առ իմանալ առ վաղիւ անցելոց իրացն ահաւորութեան նշանակ:

 7:4 But when they came to some notable spot and held a review by brigade, banner, and battalion, they ordered that each man carry a stone, bring it and place it to make a mound. However, many stones were present would represent the number of the multitude and this would remain for the future an awesome symbol of bygone days:

7:5 Եւ ընդ որ միանգամ անցանէին, այսպէս թողուին յամենայն ճանապարհակիցս, ի վերայ անցից պողոտայից:

 7:5 On intersecting points along the road they left such symbols:

7:6 Եւ ելին լցին ծածկեցին զամենայն երկիրն Հայոց. քանդեցին, գերեցին, առ հասարակ աւերեցին. սփռեցան տարածեցան զսահմանօքն, լի եւ լի ծաւալեցան մինչեւ ի փոքր քաղաքիկն Սատաղու, եւ մինչեւ ի Գանձակ սահմանս ատրպատական. խաղացուցին ի մի վայր ժողովեցին, ի ժամադիր կողմանս յԱյրարատեան գաւառին բանակ մեծ լինէր:

 7:6 They came and covered the entire country of Armenia. They demolished, enslaved and generally destroyed, spreading through the borders as far as the small city of Satagh, and as far as Ganjak within the borders of Atrpatakan. They went to one designated place in the Ayraratean district, where they assembled as one large army:

7:7 Եւ խոյս ետ թագաւորն Հայոց Խոսրով յիւրմէ եղբարցն, նոյն ի Սանէսանայ յարքայէն Մազքթաց. եւ անկան յամուր բերդն Դարեւնից յերկիրն Կովգայ, եւ ընդ նմա ծերունին Վրթանէս եպիսկոպոսապետն Հայոց:

 7:7 Xosrov, king of Armenia, eluded his kinsman Sanesan, king of the Mazkutk. Taking the aged archbishop of Armenia Vrtanes with him, they went to the secure Darewnits fortress in the Kovg country:

7:8 Ապա առնուին պահս պահել, եւ խնդրել յԱստուծոյ` զի փրկեսցէ զնոսա յայնմ ի դառն դահճէն, եւ սկսան խնդրել ի տեառնէ Աստուծոյ:

 7:8 There they began to fast and to beseech God to save them from such a bitter executioner. This they asked of the Lord God:

7:9 Եւ նա ծածկեալ բռնացեալ ունէր զերկիրն առ հասարակ իբրեւ տարի մի:

 7:9 But Sanesan held and tyrannized over the entire country for about a year:

7:10 Ապա եկն եհաս Վաչէ որդի Արտաւազդայ ի Մամիկոնեանն տոհմէն, զօրավար ամենայն Հայոց մեծաց:

 7:10 Then Vach’e son of Artawazd of the Mamikonean tohm arrived, the general of all of Greater Armenia:

7:11 Զի երթեալ էր նա ի ժամանակին յայնմիկ զերկայն ճանապարհս ի կողմանս Յունաց:

 7:11 In that period, he had gone on a long journey to the Byzantine areas:

7:12 Ապա ժողովեաց նա զամենայն քաջս քաջս նախարարացն, եւ գունդ կազմէր բազում յոյժ. եւ հասանէր անկանէր ի վերայ բանակին, յառաւօտուն ժամուն այգանալոյն պաշտամանն. զի բանակեալ էին նոքա ի լերինն` որ կոչի Ցլու գլուխ. եւ առ հասարակ ընդ սուր հանին զամենեսեան, եւ ոչ մի ոք ոչ ապրեցուցանէր, եւ դարձուցանէր զբազմութիւն գերեացն:

 7:12 He assembled all the bravest of the naxarars, organized a very large brigade, and fell upon the enemy army at the time of the morning worship. Sanesan’s men were encamped on the mountain called [Tslu glux] Bull’s Head. Vach’e put them all to the sword, not leaving anyone alive, and returned with a multitude of captives:

7:13 Եւ յետ այսորիկ առնոյր զաւարսն, խաղայր գնայր երթայր իջանէր ի դաշտն Այրարատեան գաւառին. երթայր գտանէր զՍանէսան թագաւորն Մազքթաց բուն գնդաւն, անթիւ անհամար զօրօքն հանդերձ ի Վաղարշապատ քաղաքի:

 7:13 Then he collected the loot and descended into the plain of the Ayraratean district. He went and located Sanesan, king of the Mazkutk with his main brigade [bun gndawn], an inestimable, countless number of troops, in the city of Vagharsapat:

7:14 Առեալ զգունդն Վաչէ, եւ յանկարծակի յարձակեցաւ ի վերայ քաղաքին, եւ մատնեաց զնոսա տէր ի ձեռս նորա:

 7:14 Vach’e took his brigade and suddenly attacked the city, and the Lord betrayed it into his hands:

7:15 Եւ իբրեւ տեսին զնա յարձակեալ ի վերայ իւրեանց, փախեան ելին ի քաղաքէ անտի յառապարն ի կողմն յՕշական բերդին. եւ զանապատն, եւ զքարուտ տեղիսն ապաւէն իւրեանց համարեցան. եւ լինէր սաստիկ պատերազմ յոյժ յոյժ:

 7:15 When the enemy saw that Vach’e had attacked them, they fled from the city on the rough road leading to Oshakan fortress thinking that the desert and rocky places would serve them as a refuge. There was an extremely fierce battle:

7:16 Եւ նիզակակիցք զօրավարին Հայոց, որ էին Բագրատ բագրատունի, Մեհունդակ եւ Գարեգին ըռշտունիք, եւ Վահան նահապետն ամատունեաց տոհմին, եւ Վարազ կամինական, հասանէին հարկանէին սատակէին զօրսն Ալանացն, եւ Մազքթացն, եւ Հոնացն եւ զայլոց ազգացն, եւ լնուին զդաշտն առապարացն առհասարակ դիակամբք մեռելոց. մինչ զի իբրեւ զգետ յարուցեալ երթայր արիւնն անհնարին, եւ ոչ լինէր թիւ զօրացն մեռելոց:

 7:16 The comrades-in-arms of the general of Armenia were: Bagrat Bagratuni, Mehundak and Garegin Erheshtunik’, Vahan nahapet of the Amatunik’ tohm, and Varaz Kaminakan. They struck and killed the troops of Alans, Mazkutk, Honk’ and other peoples, filling the rocky plain with the corpses of the dead. An incredible amount of blood coursed like a river, and there was no counting the dead troops:

7:17 Եւ զմնացեալսն սակաւս առաջի իւրեանց հալածականս տանէին մինչեւ յաշխարհն Բաղասճաց, եւ զգլուխն Սանէսանայ մեծի թագաւորին եկին բերին առաջի արքային Հայոց:

 7:17 They chased the few survivors before them as far as the land of the Baghaschs, and they brought the head of the great king Sanesan to the king of Armenia:

7:18 Սակայն իբրեւ ետես, լալ սկսաւ. ասէ, Եղբայր իմ էր ազգաւ արշակունի:

 7:18 But when Xosrov saw this, he began to weep, saying: “He was my brother, of the Arshakuni azg:

7:19 Ապա եկեալ էր արքային ի տեղի ճակատուն, եւ ընդ նմա մեծ եպիսկոպոսապետն Հայոց. եւ տեսին զկոտորածն զօրացն հարելոց, զի նեխէր երկիրն ի հոտոյ մեռելոցն:

 7:19 Then the king and the great archbishop of Armenia came to the site of the battle where they viewed the corpses of those who had been slain. The country stank with the stench of the dead bodies:

7:20 Ապա ետուն հրաման` գուգազ հանել յաշխարհէ, եւ անդէն ծածկել քարակարկառ վիմօք, զի մի՛ ի շարաւոյ հոտոյն մեռելոտի ոսկերացն երկիրն պղծեսցի:

 7:20 They ordered that irregular troops be called up from the land and that the slain be covered with rocks so that the country not be polluted from the smell of the corpse’s bones:

7:21 Եւ դադարեաց երկիրն ի խաղաղութեան ամս հարուստ մի. եւ այսպէս վրէժ սրբոյն Գրիգորիսի խնդրեցաւ ի թագաւորէն Սանէսանայ, եւ ի բանակէ նորա. զի ոչ մնաց ի նոցանէ եւ ոչ մի:

 7:21 Then the country relaxed in peace for a full year. Thus, was vengeance exacted for saint Grigoris from king Sanesan and from his army. None of them survived. Not a single one:
