9:0 Յաղագս թէ ո՛րպէս արարին զսուրբն Բարսիլիոս եպիսկոպոս, կամ ո՛րպէս եղեն յԱստուծոյ սքանչելիքն. կամ զիա՛րդ հրամայեաց զամենայն զանձսն որ ի Քրիստոս հաւատացեալ էին ժողովուրդն` ժողովել, եւ նոքա խնդութեամբ բերէին եւ տային ի դուրս վասն կենարարին մեծին Աստուծոյ. եւ կամ զիա՛րդ խնդրէին ուխտիւք եւ խնդրուածովք ի վերայ իւրաքանչիւր եպիսկոպոսաց:

 9:0 About how St. Basil was made a bishop and how God’s miracle was accomplished, or how he ordered the people who believed in Christ to bring all their treasures, and they all joyfully brought and gave to the church in the name of the great life-giving God, or how they made a vow and prayed for their bishops:

9:1 Ապա ժողովեցան ամենայն եպիսկոպոսք իշխանութեանն Կեսարու, եւ ընտրեցին զսուրբն Բարսիլիոս առնել արքեպիսկոպոս Կեսարու:

 9:1 And all the bishops gathered from the borders of Caesarea and elected Saint Basil Archbishop of Caesarea:

9:2 Եւ իբրեւ ժողովեալք էին ի միահամուռ հասարակ միաբան ամենայն եպիսկոպոսք ի ձեռնադրել զսուրբն Բարսեղ, էջ աղաւնին յերկնից եւ հանգեաւ ի վերայ նորա, որպէս յառաջնումն յառնելն զեպիսկոպոսապետն Ներսէս:

 9:2 When all the bishops gathered together to ordain Saint Basil, a dove descended from heaven and sat on him, just like the first time when Patriarch Nerses was ordained:

9:3 Եւ եղեն զարմանալիք մեծապէս յաչս ամենեցուն. սկսան գոհանալ զմարդասիրէն Քրիստոսէ, զի որ յանձն իւր յայտնեաց զնշանս աստուածութեանն, զայն եւ ոչ ի ծառայիցն եւ ի սրբոցն արգելոյր:

 9:3 Everyone was amazed, and they began to offer thanks to the loving Christ, who showed divine signs on himself, as well as on his servants and saints:

9:4 Եւ եկաց Բարսեղ յաթոռ կաթողիկոսութեանն Կեսարու:

 9:4 And Basil sat on the Catholic throne of Caesarea:

9:5 Այլ թագաւորն Վաղէս նեղէր զքրիստոնէից ժողովուրդն. Զի, ասէ, որ քրիստոնեայ անուն յիշխանութեան իմում կայցէ, մի՛ գտցի նորա արծաթ եւ ոսկի, զի տայցէ յարքունիս:

 9:5 And King Valens oppressed the Christian people: “Whoever, he said, bears the name of a Christian in my state, he should not have gold and silver, but should hand it over to the state:

9:6 Եւ սկսան ժողովել ի զօրաց եւ ի զօրավարաց եւ ի քաղաքաց քաղաքաց երդմամբ, զի որ զայն անունն ունիցին, մի՛ գտցի ոսկւոյ կամ արծաթոյ զանակ առ ումեք. ապա եթէ առ ումեք գտցի, մեռցի:

 9:6 And he began to collect under oath from all cities, troops and generals so that none of the Christians bearing the name would have a single grain of gold or silver left, and if anyone had it, then he would be subject to death:

9:7 Ապա ամենայն ոք խնդութեամբ բերէին տային ի դուրս վասն անուանն Քրիստոսի, կամեցեալք խնդութեամբ կրել զպատուհաս:

 9:7 And everyone gladly brought and gave to the treasury in the name of Christ what he had, willingly accepting this punishment:

9:8 Ապա ստիպել սկսան եւ գործակալքն թագաւորին ժողովել արծաթ եւ ոսկի ի ժողովրդոցն կեսարացւոց քաղաքին. ապա քաջալերել սկսաւ զնոսա երանելին Բարսիլիոս, զի խնդամիտ սրտիւ բերցեն:

 9:8 Then the servants of the king forced the population of the city of Caesarea to collect gold and silver. Blessed Basil began to exhort the people to bring what they have with a joyful heart:

9:9 Սկսաւ ասել ցնոսա այսպէս` թէ Բերէք ի ձեռն իմ, ես լինիմ այդմ երաշխաւոր. զի նոյն ինքն տէր Քրիստոս միածին Որդին Աստուծոյ, վասն որոյ նա խրոխտացեալ է ի մարտս, սատակեսցի ի նմանէն:

 9:9 He said to them: “Bring it, hand it over to me, and I guarantee that our Lord himself, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, against whom the king dares and fights, will kill him:

9:10 Այլ դուք վասն տեառն ձերոյ զյափշտակութիւն ընչից ձերոց խնդութեամբ ընկալարուք. զի ձեզ յերկինս պահի գանձն` որ ոչ անցանէ, այլ զի զայս գանձս ես տաց ձեզ դարձուցեալ ձեռն ի ձեռն ի հուպ ժամանակի:

 9:10 But you, for the sake of your Lord, agree with joy to plunder your property, for there is such a treasure in heaven for you that does not become impoverished, and I will personally return your treasures here to your hands in a short time:

9:11 Ապա ամենայն ժողովուրդք քաղաքին Կեսարու եկին բերին ի մի վայր ժողովեցին որ մի անգամ ոսկի կամ արծաթ ուրուք գտաւ. լցին զեկեղեցի, եւ ածին զիշխանսն թագաւորին զհաւատարիմս. կնքեցին զդուրս եկեղեցւոյն:

 9:11 And all the people of the city of Caesarea brought and gathered together in one place how much gold and silver each had; they brought, filled the church, called the king’s trusted princes and sealed the doors of the church:

9:12 Յետ այսորիկ ետ հրաման թագաւորն Վաղէս կապել կրկին զեպիսկոպոսապետն Բարսեղ, արկանել ի բանտ ի նեղութիւն. սոյնպէս զամենայն եպիսկոպոսունս ընդ ամենայն քաղաքս:

 9:12 After that, king Valens ordered Patriarch Basil to be bound and thrown into prison again and to oppress him, as well as all bishops in all cities:

9:13 Այլ ամենայն ժողովուրդն յուխտս եւ ի խնդրուածս լինէին վասն բարկութեանն հասելոյ, զի դադարեսցէ, եւ դարձ լիցի ճշմարիտ հովուացն յիւրաքանչիւր տեղի եւ յիւրաքանչիւր ժողովուրդս:

 9:13 And all the people made a vow and prayed that this anger that broke out over them would pass and that the true pastors would return to their places to their flocks:
