11:0 Յաղագս թագաւորելոյ Խոսրովայ եւ Տիրանայ, եւ հայրապետութեան սրբոյն Յուսկան:

 11:0 The Reign of Xosrov and Tiran and the Pontificate of Saint Yusik:

11:1 Յետ այսորիկ ապա մեծն Վրթանէս չոգաւ գնաց առ կայսրն Կոստանդոս՝ որդի Կոստանդիանոսի, ըղձակերտութեամբ առ ի նմանէ հայցեալ թագաւորեցուցանել Հայաստանեայցս զԽոսրով փոխանակ հօր իւրոյ Տրդատայ, զի տիրեսցէ մեզ՝ ասէ, քրիստոսակարգ տէրութիւնդ ձեր եւ մի՛ լիցի մեզ տիրել Պարսից անաստուածից:

 11:1 After this Vrt’anes the Great set out and went to the emperor Constantius son of Constantine and earnestly begged him to make Xosrov rule as king over the Armenians in place of his father Trdat, and pleaded as follows: “Let your sovereignty which is established by Christ prevail over us, and let not the godless Persians rule over us:

11:2 Զոր եւ ողջախոհաբար ընկալեալ զսուրբ այրն՝ եւ կատարեալ եւս զխնդիրն, կացուցանէ թագաւոր Հայաստանեայց զԽոսրով:

 11:2 The emperor received the blessed man in a proper manner and carrying out his wishes set Xosrov as king over the Armenians:

11:3 Իսկ յետ մահուանն Խոսրովայ մեծն Վրթանէս՝ առեալ ընդ իւր զՏիրան որդի Խոսրովայ, չուէ գնայ առ կայսրն Կոստանդինոս թագաւորեցուցանել զնա փոխանակ հօր իւրոյ:

 11:3 After Xosrov’s death Vrt’anes the Great took Tiran, the son of Xosrov, and went to the emperor Constantius so that the latter might set him as king in place of his father:

11:4 Իսկ կայսրն ապա ըստ առաջին նուագին բազմապատիւ պատուով զնա մեծարեալ եւ առձեռն պատրաստ զհայցուածսն կատարեալ՝ առաքէ ի Հայս պայծառապէս զՏիրան թագով պսակեալ, որ եկեալ տիրէր հայրենի տէրութեանն:

 11:4 Like the first time, the emperor greatly honored Vrt’anes, and having readily complied with his wishes, gloriously crowned Tiran king, and sent him to Armenia. Upon his arrival the latter ruled over his ancestral domain:

11:5 Իսկ ապա անօթն ընտրութեան եւ խորհրդածուն խորոցն Աստուծոյ եւ առաքելական աւանդիցն քարոզ՝ մեծն Վրթանէս, լցեալ զկէտ կենացս փոխի յաշխարհէ աստի յաշխարհն կենդանեաց, կալեալ զաթոռ հայրապետութեան ամս հնգետասան:

 11:5 Subsequently, Vrt’anes the Great, the chosen vessel and the minister of the mysteries of God and the preacher of the apostolic tradition, completed the span of his life, and departing from this world he went to the land of the living, having occupied the patriarchal throne for fifteen years:

11:6 Եւ տարեալ հանգուցանեն զնա ընդ հարս իւր ի գիւղն Թորդան:

 11:6 He was buried with his ancestors in the village of T’ordan:

11:7 Եւ յաջորդէ զաթոռ նորա Յուսիկ որդի նորա, որ հետեւող հարցն առաքինութեան գտեալ՝ հանդիսանայր միշտ ի բոլոր բարեկարգութիւնս:

 11:7 His son Yusik, who imitated the virtues of his ancestors and distinguished himself in every discipline, succeeded him:

11:8 Բայց յետ հրաժարմանն Կոստանդեայ Յուլիանոս անօրէն թագաւորեալ ի Հռօմ եւ հպարտացեալ ի վերայ գիտութեանն Աստուծոյ՝ կռամոլ գտեալ, ուրանայր զՔրիստոս եւ յարուցանէր հալածանս ի վերայ եկեղեցեաց:

 11:8 After Constantius’ death, the impious Julian ruled in Rome, and arrogantly turning against the knowledge of God, became an idolater and forsook Christ, and raised persecutions against the churches:

11:9 Ապա պատանդս ի մերն Տիրանայ առեալ՝ կամակատար իւր զնա կացուցանէր. եւ ապա զպատկեր իւր նկարակերտ, որ ըստ դիւաց պատկերից էր պաճուճեալ՝ հրամայէ Տիրանայ կանգնել յեկեղեցւոջ իւրում: Եւ վասն զի առ վտանգի երկիւղին իւրովի Տիրան տարեալ զպատկերն կանգնէր յեկեղեցւոջ իւրում ի Ծոփ գաւառի, վասն այնորիկ դիպեալ ի տեղին սուրբն Յուսիկ հոգեւոր վարդապետութեամբ տրոհել զնա ի չար մտածութենէն հնարէր:

 11:9 Thereupon, having taken hostages from our own Tiran, he made him condescend to his will. Then he ordered him to place in his church his variegated image which was designed in the likeness of those of demons. For out of fear Tiran had taken the image and at his own will placed it in his church in the district of Cop’ (sic). Because of that the blessed Yusik came to that place and tried to dissuade Tiran from his wicked thoughts through spiritual instructions:

11:10 Իսկ իբրեւ խնոյր զլսելիքն առ ի չլսել՝ յափշտակեալ ապա զպատկերն ի ձեռաց նորա եւ ընկեցեալ յերկիր եւ տրորեալ ոտիւք ի վերայ՝ խորտակէր:

 11:10 But when he shut his ears (and refused) to listen to him, Yusik snatched the image (of the emperor) from his hands and throwing it to the ground trampled it under his feet and destroyed it:

11:11 ընդ որ եւ ի չարութիւն իսկ Տիրանայ բորբոքեալ՝ հրամայէ հարկանել զնա վարոցօք, մինչեւ անդէն զհոգին աւանդել:

 11:11 Thereat Tiran went into a wicked rage and ordered Yusik beaten with clubs until he gave up his ghost:

11:12 Իսկ ծերունին Դանիէլ վասն այնպիսի չար անզգամութեանն անիծակուր զարքայն արարեալ, հրամայէ ապա եւ զնա խեղդամահ առնել, զոր տարեալ հանգուցանեն զնա ի Հացեաց վանս:

 11:12 Moreover, he also ordered the elderly Daniel who had cursed the king for such a wicked knavery suffocated. He was buried in the Hac’eac’ Monastery:

11:13 Իսկ զմարմին սրբոյ Յուսկանն տարեալ դնեն ընդ հարս իւր ի գիւղն Թորդան. որ եկաց ի հայրապետութեան անդ ամս վեց:

 11:13 But the body of the blessed Yusik was buried with his ancestors in the village of T’ordan. He had occupied the patriarchal throne for six years:

11:14 Բայց քանզի որդիք սրբոյ Յուսկանն՝ Պապ եւ Աթանագինէս, ըստ որում խաւարեցուցին իսկ զսիրտս իւրեանց անմտութեամբ՝ ընդ նմին եւ սարսափելի մահ անձանց իւրեանց նիւթեցին. զի հրացայտ ցոլմունք ի վայր հոսեալ՝ սատակէր զերկոսեանն ի միում տեղւոջ: Մանկիկ մի փոքրիկ՝ Ներսէս անուն, միայն թողլով իւր որդի Աթանագինէ, որ յայնժամ էր ի վարժս ուսման ի Կեսարիայ:

 11:14 But the sons of Saint Yusik, Pap and At’anagine, contrived a horrible destruction for themselves because of their foolishness which had darkened their hearts. For ignescent flashes (of lightning) glided down and destroyed both of them at the same place. At’anagine alone was survived by a small child called Nerses who was then in school at Caesarea:

11:15 Եւ ապա վասն ոչ գտանելոյ այր յազգէ սրբոյն Գրիգորի՝ ընտրեցին զոմն Փառներսեհ անուն յԱշտիշատէ, եւ կացուցին զնա յաթոռ հայրապետութեան:

 11:15 Subsequently, since there was no one from the family of Saint Grigor, they chose a certain P’arnerseh from Astishat and set him on the patriarchal throne:

11:16 Սա ոչ աւելի քան զերիս ամս տեւեալ՝ վախճանի:

 11:16 The latter lasted for no longer than three years and died:
