4:76 Բայց երանելի խոստովանողն, թէպէտ եւ այսպէս սիրով ընկալեալ եղեւ յամենայն աշխարհէն, ոչ ինչ կամեցաւ ամենեւին մերձենալ առ ոք ըստ մարմնոյ կարաւտութեան. այլ ընտրեաց իւր տեղի մի զատ յամենայն բազմամբոխ ժողովրդոց, եւ առաքինի եղբարբք երիւք կատարեաց զկեանս իւր մեծաւ ճգնութեամբ:

 4:76 But although the blessed confessor was received by the whole country in such a loving fashion, he did not wish to approach anyone at all for any bodily need; but he chose for himself a place away from all the press of the crowd, and with three virtuous brethren lived out his life in great austerity:

4:77 Զոր եթէ կամիցի ոք ի կարգ արկանել, դժուարաւ կարասցէ ասել զվարս առաքինութեան նորա:

 4:77 If anyone wished to set out coherently his life of virtue, only with difficulty could he describe it:

4:78 Զի եթէ զտքնութիւնն ասիցես, իբրեւ զկանթեղ անշէջ կայր զամենայն գիշերս. եւ եթէ զսակաւապիտութիւնս կերակրոցն, համարեաց՝ եթէ զանկերակուր հրեշտակացն բերէր զնմանութիւն:

 4:78 For if you were to mention his vigils: he spent all his nights like an unextinguished lamp. If you mention the frugality of his diet, consider that he resembled the angels, who eat no food:

4:79 Եթէ զհեզութիւն ցածութեանն կամիցիս ասել, ոչ զոք ի կենդանեաց կարիցես գտանել նման նմա. եւ եթէ զանընչասիրութիւնն կամիցիս ասել, դարձեալ զոր աւրինակ չպատրի մեռեալ ի կարասի, զնոյն աւրինակ ճշմարտութեամբ եւ առ երանելին իմասջիր:

 4:79 If you wished to describe his mildness and humility, you would not be able to find any living person to compare with him. And if you wished to speak of his indifference to possessions, again just as a dead man is not seduced by wealth, the same you must truly understand of that blessed one:

4:80 Անյագական ձայնիւ հանապազորդեալ էր ի պաշտաման, եւ անհատ աղաւթիւք միշտ ընդ Աստուծոյ ի բարձունս խաւսէր:

 4:80 With tireless voice he was assiduous at worship; with unceasing prayers he was always conversing with God on high:

4:81 Աղ եղեւ նա անհամելոց, եւ խթան ընդոստուցիչ ամենայն հեղգացելոց:

 4:81 He was salt for the insipid and a spurring goad for the sluggish:

4:82 Դսրովեցաւ նովաւ ագահութիւն, եւ կարի յոյժ ամաչեաց նովաւ շուայտութիւն որկորամոլութեան:

 4:82 Avarice was condemned by him, and drunken gluttony severely reprimanded:

4:83 Առողջութիւն եղեւ նա աշխարհիս Հայոց, եւ բազում վիրաւորք ի ծածուկ նովաւ գտին զառողջութիւն:

 4:83 He was a source of healing for Armenia, and many who were hurt secretly found health through him:

4:84 Եղեւ նա վարդապետ կատարեալ վարդապետաց իւրոց, եւ սուրբ հայր խրատտու հարանց իւրոց:

 4:84 He was a perfect instructor for his teachers, and a holy advising father for his fathers:

4:85 Ի լուր համբաւոյ նորա իմաստնացան տգէտք, եւ ի տեսիլ մերձաւորութեան նորա զգաստացան լկտիք:

 4:85 At the report of his fame the ignorant became wise, and at the close sight of him the licentious became chaste:

4:86 Բնակեալ էր ըստ մարմնոյ ի նեղ խցկան, եւ ահ սրբութեան նորա անկեալ էր զհեռաւորաւք եւ զմերձաւորաւք:

 4:86 In the flesh he lived in a narrow cell, and awe of his sanctity fell on those far and near:

4:87 Զարհուրեցան դեւք եւ փախեան ի նմանէ, իջին հրեշտակք եւ բանակեալ էին զնովաւ:

 4:87 Demons were terrified and fled from him; angels descended and dwelt around him:

4:88 Յոյնք երանի ետուն վասն նորա աշխարհին Հայոց, եւ բազում բարբարոսք փութացան տեսանել զնա մարմնով:

 4:88 The Greeks blessed Armenia for his sake, and many barbarians hastened to see him in the flesh:

4:89 Սիրելի եղեւ նա սիրելեաց Աստուծոյ, եւ զբազումս ի թշնամեաց ճշմարտութեանն էած ի հաւանութիւն սուրբ սիրոյ:

 4:89 He was dear to God’s beloved, and many enemies of the truth he brought to accept God’s holy love:

4:90 Սկիզբն արար առաքինութեանն անդստին ի տղայ տիոց իւրոց, եւ նովին առաքինութեամբ կատարեցաւ ի վախճան կենաց իւրոց:

 4:90 Right from his youthful years he had made a beginning of his virtuous life, and in the same virtue he ended his days:

4:91 Որպէս ոչ խառնեցաւ ի կարգ սուրբ ամուսնութեան աշխարհիս, այսպէս չեմուտ ընդ մարմնաւոր պիտոյիւք ամենայն ապականացու իրաց աշխարհիս:

 4:91 Just as he had not participated in the earthly institution of holy matrimony, so he did not become involved in any corruptible matters of this world for bodily needs:

4:92 Եւ եթէ պարտ է պարզաբար ասել, որպէս փոխանակեաց զպէտս մարմնոյ ընդ պիտանացու հոգեւոր իրաց, այսպէս փոխադրեալ եղեւ յերկրէ ի յերկինս:

 4:92 If it is necessary to speak plainly—just as he exchanged the needs of the body for necessary spiritual things, so he was transferred from earth to heaven:
