21:0 Յաղագս թէ զիա՛րդ եղեւ պատերազմ ընդ Շապուհ թագաւորն Պարսից եւ ընդ Արշակ թագաւորն Հայոց զառաջինն, կամ զիա՛րդ յաղթէր Արշակ արքայ Հայոց:	21:0 How warfare took place between king Shapuh of Iran and Arshak, king of the Armenians, and how Arshak triumphed:
21:1 Ապա ամս ութ, յետ գնալոյն փախչելոյն արքային Հայոց Արշակայ ի թագաւորէն Պարսից Շապհոյ, լուռ լինէր թագաւորն Պարսից ի թշնամութենէ. եւ խօսէր համակ ողոքով, եւ աղաչէր զԱրշակ արքայ Հայոց` սիրով հաշտ եւ միաբան կալ ընդ նմա յուխտի խաղաղութեան:	21:1 Now eight years after king Arshak of Armenia had fled from king Shapuh of Iran, the Iranian king desisted from hostility. He spoke with true entreaty, affectionately beseeching king Arshak of Armenia to be reconciled and united with him through an oath of peace:
21:2 Վասն զի ի մեծ վտանգ շտապի էր թագաւորն Պարսից` ստէպ ստէպ յանդադար պատերազմացն ի թագաւորաց անտի Յունաց:	21:2 For the Iranian king was then in great agitated danger from the frequent and incessant wars waged by the Byzantine emperors:
21:3 Իսկ Արշակ արքայ Հայոց ոչ ինչ կամէր անսալ նմա, եւ ոչ հուպ ինչ լինել ի նա. եւ յղեալ դեսպանս, եւ ոչ ինչ տալ պատարագս ընձայից, եւ ոչ հուպ ինչ կամ մօտ լինել ի նա բնաւին. եւ զանունն անգամ նոցա ոչ կամէր լսել:	21:3 However, king Arshak of Armenia in no way wanted to listen to or approach him, to send emissaries, give gifts, approach him, be associated with him, or even hear his name:
21:4 Իսկ թագաւորն Պարսից ստէպ ստէպ յղէր պատարագս առ նա, առաքէր դեսպանս:	21:4 On the other hand, the king of Iran was constantly sending Arshak gifts and emissaries:
21:5 Եւ ինքն հեպճեպ կռուէր ընդ թագաւորսն Յունաց:	21:5 while he himself fervently did battle with the Byzantine emperors:
21:6 Այլ իբրեւ եղեւ խաղաղութիւն ի մէջ թագաւորացն Յունաց եւ ի մէջ թագաւորին Պարսից Շապհոյ, ուխտից նամակ գրեալ եւ կնքեալ տայր թագաւորն Յունաց թագաւորին Պարսից:	21:6 Now it happened that peace came about between the emperors of Byzantium and king Shapuh of Iran. The Byzantine emperor wrote, sealed, and sent the following peace treaty to the king of Iran:
21:7 Եւ գրեալ էր յուխտից նամակին այսպէս. Ետու քեզ, ասէ, զՆծբին քաղաք` որ է յԱրուեստանի, եւ զՄիջագետս Ասորոց. եւ մէջաշխարհէն Հայոց` ձեռնթափ եմ, ասէ. թէ կարասցես յաղթել նոցա եւ արկանել ի ծառայութիւն, ես ի թիկունս ոչ եկից նոցա:	21:7 I give you the city of Nisibis which is in Aruestan as well as Syrian Mesopotamia. Furthermore, I will vacate the interior of Armenia. Conquer them if you can and place them in your service. I will not come to their aid:
21:8 Արդ ի նեղ ուրեմն անգեալ թագաւորն Յունաց, եւ ի նեղին վշտի` զայս ձեւ օրինակի բանիցն կնքէր մուրհակ, եւ տայր թագաւորին Պարսից, եւ ապա ճողոպրէր ի նմանէ:	21:8 For the emperor of Byzantium had become distressed, and in his sorrowful distress he sealed such a contract, gave it to the Iranian king, and thus got free of him:
21:9 Այլ իբրեւ եղեւ խաղաղութիւն ի մէջ թագաւորին Յունաց եւ ի մէջ թագաւորին Պարսից, այնուհետեւ կազմէր զզօրս իւր թագաւորն Պարսից Շապուհ, եւ խաղաց ի վերայ Արշակայ արքային Հայոց մարտի պատերազմաւ:	21:9 Now when there was peace between the emperor of Byzantium and the king of Iran, king Shapuh organized his troops and went against king Arshak of Armenia in war:
21:10 Իսկ սահմանապահքն թագաւորին Հայոց, որ նստէին ի Գանձակ Ատրպատականի, վաղ ազդ առնէին նմա զիրսն մինչչեւ հասեալ էր նա ի սահմանս Ատրպատականի:	21:10 The border-guards of the Armenian king who were in Ganjak in Atrpatakan, informed Arshak of what was happening before Shapuh reached the borders of Atrpatakan:
21:11 Ապա իբրեւ զայն զգայր թագաւորն Հայոց Արշակ, հրաման տայր Վասակայ իւրում սպարապետին` կազմել զամենայն զզօրս իւր, եւ հասանել ի դիմի հարկանել թագաւորին Պարսից Շապհոյ:	21:11 When king Arshak of Armenia learned about this, he commanded his sparapet Vasak to organize all of his troops and go against the Iranian king Shapuh:
21:12 Ապա արագ ժողովել ի մի վայր, հանդէս առնէր Վասակ սպարապետն ամենայն զօրաց Հայոց. եւ գտան հեծելազօր սպառազէնք կուռ վառեալք նիզակաւորք վաթսուն բեւր, միասիրտք միաբան միամիտք:	21:12 Sparapet Vasak quickly assembled and reviewed all of the Armenian troops. There were [60000] cavalrymen, well-armed, with spears, who were united - of one heart and one mind:
21:13 Եւ հանդերձ նոքօք յառաջ խաղայր սպարապետն Հայոց Վասակ հասանէր, բախեալ ի դիմի հարկանէր թագաւորին Պարսից:	21:13 With them sparapet Vasak advanced and struck the forces of the Iranian king:
21:14 Առ հասարակ զօրսն զամենայն հարկանէին ի սուր սուսերի իւրեանց. եւ միաձի ճողոպրեալ արքայն Պարսից Շապուհ փախչէր:	21:14 putting all the troops to the sword. Only Shapuh the Iranian king escaped on a horse and fled:
21:15 Սոքա հասանէին, գերէին այրացաւեր առնէին առ հասարակ զերկիրն Պարսից. եւ ինքեանք կային ունէին զճակատուն տեղի, այս ինքն զսահմանս Պարսից պահէին:	21:15 The Armenians reached, enslaved, and burned the entire country of Iran. And they held the site of the battle, that is, they kept the borders of Iran:
