50:0 Յաղագս քակելոյ եւ քայքայելոյ թագաւորութեանն Հայոց, թէ ո՛րպէս ապստամբեցին բազումք ի նախարարացն Հայոց, եւ ձեռս ետուն ի Շապուհ արքայն Պարսից. եւ թէ զիա՛րդ հուպ ցրուեցան այսր անդր, եւ նուաղեաց թագաւորութիւնն Հայոց:

 50:0 The decline and collapse of the Armenian kingdom; how many Armenian naxarars rebelled from the king of Armenia and went over to the Iranian king Shapuh; how they quickly scattered here and there and how the Armenian kingdom was greatly diminished:

50:1 Զերեսուն եւ զչորս ամս ետուն պատերազմ երկիրս Հայոց ընդ թագաւորին Պարսից, եւ յետ այնորիկ ձանձրացան պարտեցան լքան աշխատեցան երկոքին կողմանքն:

 50:1 For thirty-four years the country of Armenia did battle with the king of Iran, and after this both sides grew weary, defeated, forsaken, and exhausted:

50:2 Եւ սկսան սորսորել գնալ ի բանակէն Հայոց թագաւորին. թողին զիւրեանց արքայն Արշակ:

 50:2 And the naxarars began to leave the banak of the Armenian king; they abandoned their king, Arshak:

50:3 Բայց նախ այսմ գնալոյ սկիզբն առնէին մեծամեծ աւագանին:

 50:3 The grandee nobility began this departure:

50:4 Նախ բդեաշխն Աղձնեաց, եւ Նոշիրական բդեաշխն, եւ Մահկերտանն, եւ Նիհորականն, եւ Դասսընտրէին, եւ ամենայն նախարարութիւն Աղձնեաց. եւ զօրն եւ տունն տոհմին Աղձնեաց կողմանն ապստամբեցին յարքայէն Հայոց Արշակայ, եւ չոգան կացին առաջի արքային Պարսկաց Շապհոյ. եւ պարիսպ ածէին ի Հայոց կուսէ` որ Ձորայն կոչեն, դրունս դնէին. եւ զատուցին զիւրեանց աշխարհն ի Հայոց:

 50:4 The first to rebel against king Arshak of Armenia and to go before king Shapuh of Iran were: the bdeashx of Aghjnik, the Noshirakan bdeashx, Mahkertan, Nihorakan, Dassentre, and all the naxararutiwn of Aghjnik, and the force and the tun of of the tohm of the Aghjnik area. They made a wall in a place called Joray, they put in gates, and separated their land from the Armenians:

50:5 Եւ յետ սորա Գուգարաց բդեաշխն, եւ յետ սորա Ձորայ գաւառին տէրն, եւ Կողբայ գաւառին տէրն, եւ ընդ նոսա Գարդմանաձորոյ տէրն: Եւ որք մօտ էին ի նոսա կողմն այնր ձեռին, որ շուրջ էին զնոքօք, միահաղոյն ապստամբեցին ի թագաւորէն Հայոց Արշակայ, եւ չոգան գնացին առաջի կացին թագաւորին Պարսից Շապհոյ:

 50:5 Then the following individuals and those near and about them all rebelled from Arshak, king of Armenia, and went before king Shapuh of Iran: the bdeashx of Gugark, the lord of the district of Koghb, the lord of Gardmanajor:

50:6 Ապստամբեցին յԱրշակայ արքայէն Հայոց ամուր գաւառն Արձախայ, եւ ամուր գաւառն Տմօրեաց, եւ ամուր աշխարհն Կորդեաց. ապա եւ տէր գաւառին Կորդուաց չոգաւ եկաց առաջի թագաւորին Պարսից:

 50:6 Also rebelling from king Arshak of Armenia were: the secure district of Artsakh, the secure district of Tmorik, and the secure land of Korduk, and then the lord of the district of Korduk went before the king of Iran:

50:7 Յետ այսորիկ ապստամբեաց ի թագաւորէն Հայոց եւ ձեռին իշխանութեանն տանն Հայոց թագաւորին, որ էր զԱտրպայական աշխարհաւն, յետս եկաց ի թագաւորէն Հայոց ամուր աշխարհն Մարաց. յետս եկաց յարքայէն Հայոց եւ աշխարհն Կազբից. եթող զարքայն Հայոց եւ գնաց Սաղամուտ տէրն Անձտեայ, եւ ընդ նմա իշխանն մեծի Ծոփաց. եւ գնացին առ թագաւորն Յունաց:

 50:7 After this the personal principality of the tun of the Armenian king, in the land of Atrpayakan rebelled from the king of Armenia, the Marats land withdrew, the Kazbits land withdrew. Saghamut, lord of Anjit and with him the prince of Greater Copk, abandoned the king of Armenia and went to the Byzantine emperor:

50:8 Միջնաշխարհն մնացեալքն յերկուացան յարքայէն, եւ ոչ կամէին լսել թագաւորին իւրեանց, ոչ մի ինչ իրս` զոր նա կամէր:

 50:8 Those remaining in the interior of the land wavered in allegiance to the king, did not want to heed him or do anything he wished:

50:9 Եւ գձձեցաւ թագաւորութիւնն մեծապէս:

 50:9 And the kingdom was greatly debased:

50:10 Եւ Վահան եղբայր Վասակայ սպարապետին, ի մամիկոնեան ի տոհմէն, անկաւ ի բանս հրապուրանաց նա ի Մերուժանայ Արծրունոյ քեռորդւոյ իւրոյ:

 50:10 Vahan, brother of sparapet Vasak, of the Mamikonean tohm, fell for the enticing words of his nephew, sister’s son, Meruzhan Arcruni:

50:11 Եւ սա ապստամբեաց յԱրշակայ յարքայէն Հայոց, եւ չոգաւ եկաց առաջի թագաւորին Պարսից Շապհոյ:

 50:11 He too rebelled from king Arshak of Armenia and went before Shapuh, king of Iran:

50:12 Եւ հաճեաց զմիտս նորա, եւ նախ ուրացաւ նա ի կենաց իւրոց` զոր ի Քրիստոսն ունէր, եւ յանձն առ պաշտել զօրէնս մոգութեանն. այս ինքն երկիր պագանել կրակի եւ ջրոյ եւ արեգական, եւ ուրանալ զօրէնս քրիստոնէութեանն` յորում ծնեալն էր:

 50:12 He complied with Shapuh’s wishes and apostasized the Christianity which he had held during his life, agreeing to revere the faith of magianism, that is, to worship the fire, water, and sun, and to apostasize the Christianity into which he had been born:

50:13 Եւ եղեւ նա ըստ մտի թագաւորին Պարսից. եւ մատուցանէր եւս ամբաստան գրգռութիւն զարքայէն Հայոց Արշակայ, եւ զիւրմէ տանուտեառնէն Վասակայ. եւ յիշեցուցանէր եւս նմա զմահն Վարդանայ, թէ յաղագս քո մեռաւ:

 50:13 He complied with the king’s wishes and furthermore increased the accusational aggrevation against king Arshak of Armenia and against his own tanuter Vasak. Recalling the death of Vardan, he remembered: “He died because of you:

50:14 Եւ եղեւ նա այնուհետեւ սիրելի Շապհոյ արքային, եւ ետ նա կին Վահանայ զՈրմիզդուխտ քոյր իւր. եւ շնորհեաց նմա բարձ եւ զպատիւ` որ նոցուն լեալ էր նախնեաց, եւ մտերիմ փեսայ արար զնա իւր թագաւորն. եւ ի մէջ զօրաց իւրոց շքեղացոյց զնա, եւ խոստացաւ նմա կեանս մեծամեծս առնել:

 50:14 Thereafter Vahan became dear to king Shapuh who gave him his sister Ormizduxt for a wife. He bestowed upon him barj and patiw which had been theirs ancestrally, and the king made him his intimate son-in-law. He exalted him among his troops and promised to give him very great properties:

50:15 Իսկ թիւն Հայոց պակասեաց յայսմ հետէ եւ յապա:

 50:15 After this, the number of Armenians began to decline:
