2:0 Յաղագս զօրավարին Մուշեղայ Հայոց, թէ որպէս անկաւ ի վերայ բանակին Շապհոյ թագաւորին Պարսից, եւ եհար զնա ի հարուածս անհնարինս, մինչ զի միաձի Շապուհ ճողոպրէր:

 2:0 About Mushegh, the general of Armenia, how he fell upon the army of the Iranian king Shapuh, inflicting unbelievable blows to the point that Shapuh escaped on a horse by a hairsbreadth:

2:1 Ապա Մուշեղ որդի Վասակայ, ստրատելատն Հայոց մեծաց, ընդրեաց իւր արս ընտիրս միամիտ ազատս ազգայինս քառասուն հազար, միաբանս միակամս, եւ կազմեաց զնոսա ձիով եւ թոշակաւ եւ զինու. եւ առեալ զնոսա ընդ իւր, երթալ նստել ի սահմանս Ատրպատճացն, եւ պահել զաշխարհն Հայոց:

 2:1 Mushegh, the son of Vasak, the stratelate of Greater Armenia, selected choice men from the azats and his relatives some [40000] men who were united and of one will. Organizing them with horses, stipends and weapons, he took them with him and went to the borders of Atrpatchank to protect the land of Armenia:

2:2 Ապա յայնմ ժամանակի կազմեաց պատրաստեցաւ Շապուհ արքայ Պարսից ամենայն կազմութեամբ զօրովք իւրովք, եկն եհաս յերկիրն Ատրպայականի, եւ Մերուժանն առաջնորդ գնդին բանակի նորա, եւ բուն բանակն ուրեմն թագաւորին ի Թաւրէշն բնակեալ էին:

 2:2 At that time Shapuh, the king of Iran, organized and prepared, and with the entire organization of his troops, came to the Atrpayakan country. Meruzhan was the guide of his banak’s brigade. The king’s main banak was encamped at Tawresh:

2:3 Եւ հասանէր սպարապետն զօրավարն Հայոց Մուշեղ, անկանէր ի վերայ բանակին քառասուն հազարաւ, եւ անդէն ձեռն ի գործ արարեալ կոտորէր:

 2:3 The sparapet general of Armenia, Mushegh, fell upon the banak with [40000] troops, and put his sword to work:

2:4 Ապա միաձի մազապուր թագաւորն Պարսից Շապուհ ճողոպրեալ փախչէր. եւ զամենայն կարեւան բանակին առ հասարակ ընդ սուր հանէր Մուշեղ հանդերձ զօրօքն Հայոց:

 2:4 The king of Iran, Shapuh, barely escaped by a hairsbreadth and fled on a horse, though Mushegh and the Armenian troops put the entire caravan of the banak to the sword:

2:5 Զի զբազումս կոտորէին, եւ զբազումս յաւագանոյն Պարսից ձերբակալս առնէին, եւ առնուին զգանձս թագաւորին Պարսից յաւարի. եւ ըմբռնէին զտիկնանց տիկինն հանդերձ այլովք կանամբքն:

 2:5 They killed many people, arrested many Iranian nobles, took as loot the treasures of the Iranian king, and seized the queen-of-queens along with other women:

2:6 Եւ զամենայն մաշկաւարզան ի բուռն արկանէր Մուշեղ սպարապետն, եւ զամենայն աւագանին` արս իբրեւ վեց հարիւր` հրամայէր մորթել զօրավարն Հայոց Մուշեղ, եւ լնուլ խոտով. եւ տայր բերել առ Պապ արքայն Հայոց:

 2:6 Sparapet Mushegh captured the entire mashkawarzan, royal-pavilion, and he ordered that all the nobility, some six hundred men, be flayed and stuffed with hay. He had this brought to Pap, the king of Armenia:

2:7 Առնէր զայս ի վրէժս հօրն իւրոյ Վասակայ:

 2:7 He did this to avenge his father, Vasak:

2:8 Բայց զկանայսն Շապհոյ թագաւորին Պարսից ոչ ումեք ինչ թոյլ տայր Մուշեղ զօրավարն Հայոց անարգել ինչ զնոսա ումեք. այլ ժանաւարս տայր նոցան կազմել ամենեցուն, եւ հանեալ արձակէր զամենեսեան զհետ առն նոցա Շապհոյ արքայի:

 2:8 However Mushegh, the general of Armenia, did not allow anyone to dishonor the women of king Shapuh of Iran. Rather he had palanquins prepared for all of them and then sent them all after their man, king Shapuh:

2:9 Եւ ի Պարսկացն ընդ նոսա արձակէր, զի երթիցեն առ Շապուհ թագաւորն Պարսից ողջս եւ անարատս:

 2:9 He also dispatched to Shapuh, king of Iran, some of the Iranians, so that they might go before the king well and unharmed:

2:10 Իսկ թագաւորն Պարսից զարմացեալ ընդ բարերարութիւնն Մուշեղի եւ ընդ քաջութիւնն եւ ընդ ազատութիւնն, զի ոչ արար ինչ նմա յաղագս կանանցն թշնամանս:

 2:10 Now the king of Iran was surprised by Mushegh’s benevolence, his bravery and freedom that he had not perpetrated any insults on his women:

2:11 Եւ էր ի ժամանակին յայնմիկ երիվարն Մուշեղի, ճերմակ ձի մի. իսկ թագաւորն Պարսից Շապուհ յորժամ առնոյր գինի ի մատունսն ըմպել, յորժամ ուրախութեանն իւրոյ խրախութիւնս առնէր զօրացն իւրոց, ասէր. Ճերմակաձին գինի արբցէ:

 2:11 At that time Mushegh had a white horse. So, when Shapuh, king of Iran, took in hand wine to drink, while feasting and making merry with his troops, he note: “May the white horseman drink wine:

2:12 Եւ ետ նկարել զտաշտ ի պատկեր զՄուշեղ ճերմակաւն. եւ ի ժամ ուրախութեանն իւրոյ դնէր զտաշտն առաջի իւր, եւ յիշէր հանապազ զնոյն բանս ասելով` թէ Ճերմակաձին գինի արբցէ:

 2:12 He had a picture of Mushegh on the white horse, engraved on a cup, and when rejoicing he would put the cup before him and always recall in the same way: “May the white horseman drink wine:

2:13 Այլ Մուշեղ եւ ամենայն զօրքն Հայոց անչափ առին զաւար ի բանակէն Պարսից, եւ անչափ լցան գանձօք եւ ստացուածովք. եւ բազում աւարամասն Պապայ պահէին թագաւորին իւրեանց. եւ զօրացն Հայոց` որ անդէն առ թագաւորին Պապայ էին մնացեալ` հանին աւարամասն, եւ զօրավարացն Յունաց` որ էին առ թագաւորին Հայոց. սոյնպէս եւ ամենայն զօրացն տային բաշխիշ ի մեծամեծ աւարացն ածելոցն:

 2:13 Mushegh and all the Armenian troops filled up with an unlimited amount of loot, treasures and goods from the Iranian banak. They kept a large share of the loot for their king, Pap, a share for those Armenian troops who had remained with king Pap, a share for the Byzantine generals who were with the king of Armenia, and similarly, and a share for all the troops, from that enormous amount of loot they had taken:

2:14 Այլ իբրեւ դարձան զօրքն Հայոց յաշխարհն իւրեանց, բազումք ի զօրացն Հայոց ամբաստանէին առ թագաւորին Պապայ զՄուշեղէ զսպարապետէն, թէ ընդէ՛ր արձակեաց զկանայս թագաւորին Պարսից զթշնամւոյն մերոյ:

 2:14 Now when the Armenian troops returned to their own land, many of the Armenian soldiers accused the sparapet Mushegh before king Pap, saying: “Why did he release the women of the Iranian king, our enemy:

2:15 Եւ թագաւորին Հայոց Պապայ վասն այսր իրաց ոչ ինչ սակաւ լինէր թշնամութեամբ ընդ Մուշեղի մինչեւ ի բազում ժամանակս:

 2:15 As a result of this matter the king of Armenia, Pap, for a long time felt no small hostility toward Mushegh:
