Ագաթանգեղոս 3-23 Agatangeghos

23:1 Եւ դարձեալ բազում եւ անհամար գունդս գունդս վանականաց ի շէնս եւ յանշէնս, դաշտականս շինակեացս, եւ լեռնականս անձաւամուտս եւ արգելականս հաստատէր:	23:1 Gregory established many, countless, groups of monks in cultivated and uncultivated places, in the populous plains, in caves and retreats in the mountains:
23:2 Եւ զոմանս յորդւոց քրմացն առեալ իւր՝ զառաջեաւասունս ձեռնասունս առնէր. փոյթ ուսման ի վերայ ունէր՝ ընդ հոգեւոր խնամով եւ երկիւղիւ սնուցանել:	23:2 He took some of the children of the pagan priests and raised them in his own sight and under his own care, seeing to their training and nourishing them with spiritual care and piety:
23:3 Որ յաստիճան եպիսկոպոսութեան լինէին արժանի կալոյ, առեալ ձեռնադրութիւն ի նմանէ. որոց առաջնոյն՝ Աղբիանոս անուն, որ ապա կողմանցն Եփրատական գետոյն լինէր վերակացու. երկրորդին՝ Եւտաղիոս, որ ի կողմանս վայրացն Բասենոյ կացեալ լինէր հովիւ. երրորդն՝ Բասոս. չորրորդն՝ Մովսէս. հինգերորդն՝ Եւսեբիոս. վեցերորդն՝ Յովհաննէս. եաւթներորդն՝ Ագապէս. ութերորդն՝ Արտիթէս. իններորդն՝ Արսուկէս. տասներորդն՝ Անտիոքէս. մետասաներորդն՝ Տիրիկէս. երկոտասաներորդն՝ Կիւրակոս:	23:3 Those who were worthy of the rank of bishop received ordination from him. 23:4 Այսք՝ որ յորդւոց քրմացն ընտրեցան լինել եպիսկոպոսք կողմանց կողմանց, աճեցուցանել զքարոզութիւնն:	23:4 These people were those who were selected from the sons of the pagan priests to become bishops of various areas and to increase the preaching:
23:5 Եւ զայլոցն անուանս թէ եւ կամիցի ոք՝ ոչ կարասցէ շարել:	23:5 As for the many others, one would be unable to list them, even if one wished to:
23:6 Եւ զԱղբիանոս զայր ճշմարիտ եւ աստուածասէր՝ վերակացու թողոյր արքունական դրան բանակին:	23:6 Gregory left Aghbianos, an honest, God-loving man, as overseer of the royal court retinue:
23:7 Եւ ինքն ընդ ժամանակս ժամանակս յանապատ լերինս ելանէր, ուր եւ ինքեան իւրով անձամբն իսկ աւրինակ ցուցանէր:	23:7 He himself, from time to time, ascended mountains for a retreat, making himself an example:
23:8 Առեալ զոմանս ոմանս յաշակերտացն յիւրաքանչիւր մենաստանաց՝ երթեալ, լեռնակեաց, մենակեաց, սորամուտ, ծակախիթ եղեալ, եւ զառաւրեակն խոտաբուտ ճարակաւք վճարեալ:	23:8 He took various students from their monasteries, going to live in the mountains, in solitude. In grottos and caves, they made herbs their daily food:
23:9 Եւ այսպէս վշտակեաց տկարութեան զանձինս տուեալ, մանաւանդ որոց հայեցեալ եւս ի մխիթարութիւն առաքելական բանիցն, թէ Յորժամ վասն Քրիստոսի տկարանամ՝ յայնժամ զաւրացեալ լինիմ. եւ թէ՝ Լաւ եւս լիցի պարծել տկարութեամբ, զի բնակեսցէ յիս զաւրութիւնն Քրիստոսի:	23:9 Thus they gave themselves over to austere mortifications especially since they looked for consolation in the sayings of the apostles “When I am weak for Christ, then I am strong,” and “It would be better to boast in my weakness, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me:
23:10 Անդ էր ապա չ արբենալ գինւով, այլ առաւելուլ հոգւով, եւ պատրաստել զսիրտս երգովք հոգեւորաւք ի փառս եւ ի գովութիւն Աստուծոյ:	23:10 Then there was there no being drunk with wine but growth in the spirit and a preparation of their hearts with spiritual songs to the glory and praise of God:
23:11 Անդ կրթութիւն քաղցրուսոյց ընթերցուածոց հոգեպատում գրոց:	23:11 There was pursued the study of the sweet readings of the inspired scriptures:
23:12 Անդ քաջալերութիւն յորդորական լուսաւոր վարդապետութեան, առ ի յառաջադէմ ընտրութիւն պսակահամբար քրիստոսադիր կիտին:	23:12 There encouragement was continuous in illuminating teaching with a view to progressive election to the goal of the crown bestowed by Christ:
23:13 Անդ եռալ հոգւով աստուածապաշտ ծառայութեամբ:	23:13 Then there was spiritual fervor in divine service:
23:14 Անդ աղաւթք աղերսալիք եւ պաղատանք փարելիք եւ խնդրուածք հաշտեցուցիչք վասն ամենեցուն կենաց առ մարդասէրն Աստուած:	23:14 There arose to benevolent God prayers of supplication and desirous petitions and conciliatory requests on behalf of life for all:
23:15 Եւ նովին հոգեկրաւն արուեստիւն հանեալ աւուրս բազումս յանապատ տեղիս», յակունս Եփրատական գետոյն, յայրս եւ ի քարածերպս երկրին բնակեալ լինէր, եւ ի կատարս լերանց, զաւրինակ առեալ զմեծի մարգարէին Եղիայի, եւ կամ զերանեալ զմկրտչին առաքինւոյն Յովհաննու. բարեաց գործոց նախանձաւոր եղեալ՝ զնոյն կեանս վարուցն քաջութեան աստուածամուխ կենացն անձին մատուցանէր:	23:15 With these same spiritual practices he passed many days in desert places, at the source of the Euphrates river, dwelling in grottoes and caverns in the ground and on the summits of mountains, taking as example the great Elijah or the blessed Baptist, the virtuous John.
