4:0 Յաղագս երկուց տոհմանցն` որք անզաւակեցան, Մանաւազեանքն եւ Որդունիք, ի մէջ Հայաստան աշխարհին:

 4:0 Concerning the two clans [tohms] the Manawazean and the Orduni in the land of Armenia:

4:1 Եւ զայն ժամանակաւ յարեաւ խռովութիւն մեծ յաշխարհին Հայոց, զի մեծ նախարարք եւ իշխանք երկու, գաւառակալք աշխարհատեարք անգանէին ընդ միմեանս, մեծաւ ոխութեամբ յարուցին կռիւ, եւ տային ընդ միմեանս մարտ պատերազմի առանց իրաւանց:

 4:1 In that period a great agitation arose in the land of Armenia. For two great naxarars and princes, holders of districts and lords of lands [gawarhakalk, ashxarhateark] became each other’s enemies and, with great rancour stirred up a fight, warring with one another without justice:

4:2 Եւ պղտորէին զմեծ աշխարհն Հայոց իշխանն Մանաւազեան տոհմին, եւ միւս եւս նահապետն Որդունւոց տոհմին:

 4:2 The prince of the Manawazean tohm and the nahapet of the Orduni tohm thus disturbed the great land of Armenia:

4:3 Կռուեցան ընդ միմեանս մեծաւ պատերազմաւ, եւ բազում մարդկան լինէր ծախումն կոտորածոյ:

 4:3 They engaged each other in great warfare and many people were killed:

4:4 Ապա առաքեցին թագաւորն Խոսրով եւ մեծ եպիսկոպոսապետն Վրթանէս զպատուական զմեծ եպիսկոպոսն Աղբիանոս ի մէջ նոցա, խօսել ի հաշտութիւն խաղաղութեան:

 4:4 King Xosrov and the great archbishop Vrtanes sent the great and honorable bishop Aghbianos into their midst to speak of reconciliation and peace:

4:5 Երթեալ հասանէր ի մէջ նոցա երանելին Աղբիանոս, զնոսա ուղղել նուաճել` ընդ միմեանս հաշտեցուցանել:

 4:5 The venerable Aghbianos went amongst them to correct and subdue them and make them achieve reconciliation with each other:

4:6 Անարգեցին զնա, եւ ոչ լուան բարեխօսութեանն եկելոյն. անգոսնեցին զյղելիսն, եւ մեծաւ թշնամանօք արձակեցին զեպիսկոպոսն, եւ առնուին աւերէին զտունն արքունի:

 4:6 But they dishonored him and did not heed his intercession. They ridiculed the man who had been sent to them, dispatched the bishop with great insults, and took and ruined the royal tun:

4:7 Եւ զայրացեալք խստութեամբ, հապճեպ տային ընդ միմեանս մարտ պատերազմի:

 4:7 Severely enraged they promptly commenced warring with each other:

4:8 Ապա մեծ ցասմամբք եւ բազում սրտմտութեամբ արձակեաց թագաւորն ի վերայ նոցա զՎաչէ որդի Արտաւազդայ, զնահապետ Մամիկոնեան տոհմին` յազգէ սպարապետութեան Հայոց, զմեծ զօրավար զօրաց իւրոց, սատակել կորուսանել զազգսն երկոսեան:

 4:8 With great anger and wrath, the king sent against them Vach’e, son of Artawazd, nahapet of the Mamikonean tohm, from the azg of the sparapetut’iwn of Armenia, a great general with his troops, to kill and destroy those two azgs:

4:9 Ապա երթեալ հասանէր ի վերայ նոցա զօրավարն Վաչէ. հարկանէր վանէր զազգսն երկոսեան, եւ ոչ թողոյր զերկոցունց տոհմացն զորձ կորիւն եւ ոչ զմի. եւ ինքն դառնայր առ արքայն Խոսրով թագաւորն Հայոց, եւ առ եպիսկոպոսապետն Վրթանէս:

 4:9 The general Vach’e went and struck at those two azgs and did not leave a single male child alive. Then he returned to king Xosrov, the monarch of Armenia, and to the archbishop Vrtanes:

4:10 Եւ ետ զաւանն եւ զբուն գահոյից գեւղն նահապետին Մանաւազենից եպիսկոպոսին Աղբիանոսի յեկեղեցի. զՄանաւազակերտ ամենայն սահմանօքն եւ գաւառակաւն հանդերձ` որ շուրջ զնոքօք էր, որ կայ ի կողմանս գետոյն Եփրատայ:

 4:10 And the king gave to the bishop Aghbianos for the Church the awan and the bun residential village of the nahapet of the Manawazean, namely Manawazakert with all of its borders and the small district lying about them which was in the area of the Euphrates river:

4:11 Եւ ետուն զբուն գեւղի Որդունւոց, որոյ անուն էր Որդորու. ուստի եպիսկոպոս Բասանու ամենայն սահմանօքն հանդերձ, որ ինքն իսկ է յերկրին Բասանու:

 4:11 They also gave the bun village of the Ordunis which was named Ordoru whence came the bishop of Basen with all of its borders. He himself was from the Basen country:
