 14:0 Enthronement of Basil in Greece; - The tyranny of Bardas and the devastation of the Greek land:

14:1 Եւ իբրեւ թագաւորեաց Վասիլ ի [ՆԻԵ] թուականին, որպէս յառաջն ասացաք՝ Վարդ, որ ըստ աւելաձայնութեան Սիկլառոս կոչիւր, ապստամբեալ թագաւորեաց ի կողմանս Ջահանայ եւ Մելտենոյ, որ էր այր քաջ եւ կորովի ի գործ պատերազմաց:

 14:1 When Basil was enthroned in [425=976], as we said above, Bardas, nicknamed Skleros, having set aside for a time, began to reign in the Jahan and Melitine countries. Bardas was a brave man and well-versed in military affairs:

14:2 Եւ միաբանեալ ընդ ինքեան զհեծելագունդ զաւրն Հայոց, որ ընդ Յունաց թագաւորութեամբն, եւ բաժանեալ զթագաւորութիւնն Յունաց՝ հասանէ մինչեւ ցԲիւթանիա, ճակատ տալով ընդ թագաւորին Վասլի զամս [Դ]. եւ արեան ճապաղիւք լնուին զաշխարհն ամենայն:

 14:2 Having bowed to his side the Armenian cavalry, which was in Greece, he divided the Greek kingdom into two, went to Bithynia, without ceasing to fight with King Basil for [4] years and stain the whole country with blood:

14:3 Վասն զի թագաւորն Վասիլ գումարեաց զզաւրսն Բիւզանդիոնի եւ զԹրակացին եւ զՄակեդոնացին հանդերձ ամենայն արեւմտեայ ազգաւքն, առաքէ ի պատերազմ ընդդէմ Վարդայ բռնակալին:

 14:3 King Basil, having gathered (for his part) Byzantium, Thrace and Macedonian troops with all the Western nations, sent them against the tyrant Bardas:

14:4 Իսկ Վարդայ զինեալ ընդդէմ նորա ի պատերազմ, յորում քաջապէս մարտուցեալ զաւրն Հայոց, որպէս որդիք իշխանին Տարաւնոյ, Գրիգոր եւ Բագարատ, եւ Զափրանիկ իշխան Մոկացի, ահաբեկ արարեալ զզաւրսն Յունաց՝ զաւրէն փոթորկեալ մրրկի շփոթէին, զյոլովս սրախողխող արարեալ եւ զբազումս ձերբակալ. ուր սպանեալ եղեւ ներքինին Պետռանոս՝ գլուխ զաւրուն:

 14:4 Bardas made war against them; the Armenian army fought courageously: the sons of the prince of Taron - Grigor and Bagarat, and the prince of Mokk Zapranik, terrified the Greek army, which, confused as if by a whirlwind, partly died under their swords, partly was captured. In this battle, the (Greek) commander, the eunuch Petranos, was killed:

14:5 Եւ ապա ողորմածաբար գթացեալ յաղագս քրիստոսական հաւատոցն՝ մնացելոցն կեանս շնորհէին:

 14:5 But Bardas took pity on the rest, as on Christians, and gave them life:

14:6 Եւ այսպէս երկիցս եւ երիցս եւ բազում անգամ մարտուցեալք՝ յաղթեցին արեւմտեայ զաւրուն. եւ գրեթէ ընդ բոլոր աշխարհն Յունաց տարածեցաւ պատերազմն, մինչ զի գեւղ ընդ գեւղ եւ քաղաք ընդ քաղաք մարտնչէր, եւ ամենայն ուրեք արեանց հեղմունք լինէին:

 14:6 Thus, not in two, not in three, but in many battles, they prevailed over the western army, and the war spread throughout Greece, so that village against village and city against city fought, and blood was shed everywhere:

14:7 Եւ սով սաստիկ յընդհանուր աշխարհս տարածանէր, եւ դիակունք մեռեալք ի ճանապարհս եւ ի գռեհս բազմանային, եւ կենդանիքն ողորմելի քան զմեռեալս շրջէին, եւ գայլք գիշիչք ի մարմինս մեռելոցն խանձեալք՝ եւ զկենդանիսն ուտէին:

 14:7 A severe famine spread throughout the kingdom; every day the number of corpses increased on the roads and in the squares; the survivors inspired more pity than the dead, and the predatory wolves, accustomed to corpses, tormented even the living:

14:8 Եւ մինչ զայսու շփոթմամբ էր թագաւորութիւնն Յունաց, Խլաթայ եւ Նփրկերտոյ ամիրայն Բատն վերստին շինէ զքաղաքն Մանազկերտ եւ սրով եւ գերութեամբ անմարդացոյց զգաւառն Տարաւնոյ, յաւարի առեալ զքաղաքն Մուշ, խողխողեալ զքահանայս յեկեղեցւոջն, որ սուրբ Փրկիչ անուանի՝ ողորմելի տեսակաւ. յորում արեան ներկուածք ցարդ եւս ցուցանին ի նոյն յեկեղեցւոջ:

 14:8 While the Greek kingdom was in such turmoil, Bat, the Amir of Xlat and Nprkert, restored the city of Manazkert, devastated the district of Taron with a sword and captivity, plundering the city of Mush and slaughtering the priests in the most pitiful way in the church called “Surb-Prkich”, where you can still see traces of blood:
