24:0 Սմբատ Բագրատունի կարգի մարզպան Վրկանայ, Նուաճէ զապստամբսն, բարեկարգէ զաշխարհն Վրկանայ:

 24:0 Smbat Bagratuni is appointed marzpan of Vrkan. He subdues the rebels and establishes good order in the land of Vrkan:

24:1 Եւ եղեւ ի ժամանակին յայնմիկ հաճոյանալ Սմբատայ Բագրատունւոյ յաչս Խոսրովու արքային. տայ ի նա զմարզպանութիւն երկրին Վրկանայ, առնէ զնա իշխան ի վերայ ամենայն կողմանն այնորիկ, առաւել մեծացուցանէ պատւովք եւ իշխանութեամբ. լնու զնա ոսկւով եւ արծաթով, զարդարէ ի հանդերձս պատուականս եւ յերեւելիս:

 24:1 It happened at that time that Smbat Bagratuni became pleasing in the eyes of king Khosrov. He gave him the marzpanate of the land of Vrkan, made him prince over all that region, and favoured him even more with honours and authority. He heaped gold and silver on him, and robed him in expensive and splendid garments:

24:2 Տայ նմա զկամարն եւ զսուսերն լեալ հաւր իւրոյ Որմզդի. գումարէ ի ձեռս նորա զաւրս պարսիկս եւ զհայաստանեայս եւ հրամայէ գնալ յերկիր իշխանութեանն իւրոյ:

 24:2 He gave him the belt and sword that had belonged to his own father Ormizd. He put under his control Persian and Armenian troops, and ordered him to go to the land of his appointment:

24:3 Էին ապստամբ ի ժամանակին յայնմիկ յարքայէն Պարսիկ երկիրքն, որ անուանեալ կոչի Ամաղ, Ռոյեան, Զրէճան եւ Տապարաստան. զորս վանեալ նորա պատերազմաւ՝ հարկանէր սրով սուսերի եւ ի ծառայութիւն արքային Պարսից կացուցանէր, եւ շինեալ հաստատէր զամենայն երկիր իւրոյ մարզպանութեանն, քանզի էր երկիրն աւերակ:

 24:3 At that time the lands called Amał, Ṙoyean, Zrēchan and Taparastan had rebelled against the Persian king. He defeated them in battle, smote them with the sword, and brought them into subjection to the Persian king. He established prosperity over all the area of his marzpanate, because that land had been ravaged:

24:4 Կային յաշխարհին յայնմիկ ազգն գերեալք ի Հայաստան երկրէ, եւ նստուցեալ առ ստորոտով անապատին մեծի, որ ի Թուրքաստանի եւ ի Դելհաստան կողմանէ. զլեզու իւրեանց մոռացեալ եւ դպրութիւն նուազեալք եւ կարգ քահանայութեանն պակասեալք: Կային անդ եւ ազգ Կոդրեացն, որք գերեցան մերովքն արամբք։ Կային անդ եւ յիշխանութենէն Յունաց եւ յԱսորւոց կողմանէ ոչ սակաւք:

 24:4 There was in that country a community deported from Armenia and settled on the edge of the great desert which extends from T’urk’astan and Delhastan. They had forgotten their own language, lost the use of writing, and lacked the priestly order. There was also there a group of Kodrik’ who had been taken captive with our own men; and furthermore not a few from the Greek empire and from the region of Syria:

24:5 Էին ազգ Կոդրեացն անհաւատք. բայց ի վերայ քրիստոնէիցն ծագէր լոյս մեծ. հաստատէին ի հաւատս եւ ուսանէին զդպրութիւն եւ զլեզու. եւ հաստատէին ի կարգ քահանայութեան յաշխարհի անդ երէց ոմն ի նոցանէ, որ անուանեալ կոչէր Աբէլ:

 24:5 The community of Kodrik’ were infidels. But over the Christians there shone a great light. They were confirmed in the faith and learned to write and speak their language. A certain presbyter among them who was named Abel was appointed to priestly rank in that land:
