21:1 Եւ դադարեաց անդ յետ այսորիկ աւուրս եաւթն վասն հոգեւոր մխիթարութեան:

 21:1 Gregory remained there for seven days after this, for spiritual consolation:

21:2 Եւ յայնմ աւուրս եաւթանս որ մկրտեցան յարքունական բանակէ անտի՝ ընդ այր եւ ընդ կին եւ ընդ մանուկ աւելի քան զչորեքարիւր բիւր:

 21:2 And during those seven days he baptized more than four million people from the royal retinue, men, women, and children:

21:3 Եւ զյիշատակս վկայիցն բերելոց ժամադրեաց ի տաւն մեծ հռչակել, սնոտեացն պաշտաման ի ժամանակի՝ դիցն Ամանորոյ ամենաբեր նոր պտղոց տաւնին, Հիւրընկալ դիցն Վանատրի, զոր յառաջագոյն իսկ ի նմին տեղւոջ պաշտէին յուրախութեան Նաւասարդ աւուր:

 21:3 Gregory set the date for commemorating the deaths of the martyrs whose relics he had brought, declaring as a major holiday the days of the former holiday of the vain gods Amanor, bringer of the new fruits and of Hyurnkal, Vanatur, which previously they joyously celebrated in the same place on the feast of [Nawasard] New Year’s Day:

21:4 Զի ժողովեալ ի յիշատակ մեծի երանելւոյն Յովհաննու եւ սրբոյ վկային Աստուծոյ Աթանագինէի՝ յայնմ աւուր խմբեալ ի նմին յաւանին տաւնեսցեն:

 21:4 Gregory stipulated that they now should gather and celebrate in that hamlet and on the same day a feast for the great and blessed John the Baptist and for the holy martyr of God, Atanagines:

21:5 Յորում եւ երանելւոյն Գրիգորի զվարդապետութիւնն իւր ի գործ արկեալ, եւ ժողովելոցն առ ընդունել քաղցրացուցեալ», «եւ ծովացուցեալ զվարդապետութեանն զխորութիւն, եւ լցեալ զեղեալ ամենայն հոգեւոր բարութեամբք:

 21:5 Then the blessed Gregory put his teachings in effect, sweetening the teachings so that the people would accept them. Meanwhile, he also filled everyone with spiritual blessing through deeper instruction:

21:6 Յետ այսորիկ հասեալ նմա բովանդակ ի վերայ ամենայն երկրին սահմանացն Հայոց Մեծաց աշխարհին», շինելով եկեղեցիս յամենայն աշխարհս, ի գաւառս, ի կողմանս, ի քաղաքս, յաւանս, ի շէնս, ի գեաւղս եւ յագարակս:

 21:6 After this, he went to all districts in the land of Greater Armenia, building churches in all districts, regions, cities, hamlets, cultivated areas, villages, and estates:

21:7 Սոյնպէս եւ թագաւորն յամենայն իշխանութեան իւրում առ հասարակ՝ գրեաց չորս չորս հողս երդոյ յամենայն ագարակ տեղիս, իսկ յաւանսն եաւթն եաւթն հողս երդոյ՝ ի ծառայութիւն սպասաւորութեան քահանայութեանն, նուէր պտղոյ Տեառն մատուցանէր:

 21:7 Similarly, the king decreed that throughout his entire realm, four fields in every estate and seven fields in every hamlet should be placed in service to the priesthood, for them to offer their fruits to the Lord:

21:8 Եւ կացուցանէր քահանայս յամենայն տեղիս, եւ հրաման տուեալ, զի պաշտեսցեն զՏէր Աստուած միայն, զարարիչն երկնի եւ երկրի. եւ բազմացուցանէր զպաշտաւնեայս սեղանոյն Տեառն ընդ ամենայն տեղիս, եւ կացուցանէր քահանայս առ սեղան սեղան յամենայն եկեղեցիսն:

 21:8 Gregory established priests everywhere, and ordered that the people only worship the Lord God, creator of heaven and earth. He increased the servitors of the altar of the Lord everywhere and established priests for each altar in all the churches:

21:9 Սոյնպէս եւ զեպիսկոպոսսն վիճակեցուցանէր ի գլխաւորութիւն ժողովրդոցն Տեառն, եւ հրաման տայր նոցա՝ հաւատարիմ առաջնորդութեամբ վերակացու լինել լուսաւորապէս հաւտին Քրիստոսի:

 21:9 Similarly, he elevated bishops to primacy over the people of the Lord and ordered them to be faithful in their leadership and to illuminate and oversee the flock of Christ:
