29:0 Ի սորա աւուրս շարժեալ թագաւորն Յունաց ի կայսերական արքունեան մտիցն՝ բազում եւ ծանր ամբոխիւ գայր հասանէր յաշխարհն Կարնոյ ի քաղաքն որ կոչի Թէոդուպոլիս:

 29:0 During his reign the Byzantine emperor (Constantine) [V], Copronymous, [740-775] left his imperial seat and came to the Karin area, to the city called T’e’odupolis (Erzerum), with an enormous heavily armed mass of soldiers:

29:1 Եւ իբրեւ յական թօթափել կործանէր զդղեակ պարիսպ ամրոցին արքայն Կոստանդին որ էր որդի Լեւոնի, եւ բացեալ զտուն գանձուցն՝ բառնայր բազում կշիռ ոսկւոյ եւ արծաթոյ. գտանէր ի գանձի անդ զնշան տէրունեան խաչին, զոր առեալ տանէր ընդ ինքեան:

 29:1 Upon arrival they destroyed the walls of the citadel and Emperor Constantine, son of Leo, opened the treasury and withdrew a large amount of gold and silver. He also found in that treasury a fragment of the Lord’s Cross, which he removed and took with him:

29:2 Նա եւ զզօրսն քաղաքին եւ զբնակեալսն ի նմա Սառակինոսս բառնայր նոցին ընտանեօքն յաշխարհն Յունաց: Եւ բազումք ի բնակչաց գաւառացն խնդրեալ յարքայէն, զի ընկեսցեն զանուր լծոյ ծառայութեանն Իսմայելի յանձանց եւ գնասցեն զկնի նորա:

 29:2 He also took to Byzantine territory the city’s troops and Saracen population with their families. Many residents of the district beseeched the emperor to remove their yoke of servitude to the Ishmaelites:

29:3 Եւ նորա տուեալ հրաման, վաղվաղակի հանդերձեալ զաղխս իւրեանց՝ խաղացին յառաջ, ապաւինեալք ի զօրութիւն տէրունեան խաչին եւ ի փառս արքային. թողին զերկիր ծննդեան իւրեանց, եւ հատուածեալք անկան ի կողմն արքային բարեպաշտի:

 29:3 And they too departed along with him. Receiving (the emperor’s) permission they quickly prepared their belongings, taking strength from the power of the Lord’s Cross and the emperor’s glory. They left their birthplace and, separating (from their own people), joined the pious emperor’s side:

29:4 Իսկ ի գալ միւսոյ ամին կազմեալ Եզիտն զզօրսն որ ընդ ձեռամբ իւրով՝ երթայր հասանէր ի քաղաքն Կարնոյ եւ արկանէր մարդահարկ ի վերայ աշխարհին. եւ հաւաքեալ զբազմութիւն անթիւ՝ կացուցանէր գործավարս ի վերայ գործոյն, եւ փոյթ յանձին կալեալ շինէր զխրամատեալ պարիսպ քաղաքին:

 29:4 But the next year Yazid assembled the troops under him and went to that city of Karin and imposed the poll tax on the land. Assembling an innumerable host, he designated officials over the work which included swiftly rebuilding the city’s demolished walls:

29:5 Եւ ածեալ արս յորդւոցն Իսմայելի բնակեցոյց ի նմա նոցին ընտանեօք՝ պահել զքաղաքն եւ զգուշանալ ի թշնամեացն: Եւ կարգեաց նոցա պատրաստութիւն կերակրոց յաշխարհէս Հայոց:

 29:5 He led the sons of Ishmael and their families there and settled them to hold and protect the city from (their) foes. And he stipulated that the provisions for their food should come from the land of the Armenians:
