5:1 Առեալ այնուհետեւ երանելւոյն զհաւատացեալս իւր, դիմեալ իջանէր յանկարգ եւ յանդարման տեղիս Գողթան:

 5:1 Taking along with him his faithful pupils, the blessed one went to the disorderly and uncultivated regions of Goghtan:

5:2 Այլ եւ ընդ առաջ ելանէր նմա իշխանն Գողթան, այր երկիւղած եւ աստուածասէր, որում անուն էր Շաբիթ, եւ ասպնջական հիւրամեծար գտեալ՝ բարեպաշտութեամբ սպասաւորէր ըստ աշակերտաց հաւատոցն Քրիստոսի:

 5:2 He was met by the ruler of Goghtan, a pious man whose name was Shabit, a gracious and hospitable man, who devoutly served him in a manner worthy of an apostle of Christian faith:

5:3 Իսկ երանելւոյն վաղվաղակի զաւետարանական արուեստն ի մէջ առեալ, ձեռն արկանէր զգաւառովն հանդերձ միամիտ սատարութեամբ իշխանին. գերեալ զամենեսեան ի հայրենեաց աւանդելոց, եւ ի սատանայական դիւապաշտ սպասաւորութենէն՝ ի հնազանդութիւն Քրիստոսի մատուցանէր:

 5:3 And the blessed one at once exercising the art of evangelism, with the faithful cooperation of the ruler, began to preach in the district, and capturing them all away from their native traditions and satanic idolatry, turned them to obedience to Christ:

5:4 Եւ յորժամ ի նոսա զբանն կենաց սերմանեալ, յայտնի իսկ բնակչաց գաւառին նշանք մեծամեծք երեւէին, կերպակերպ նմանութեամբ դիւացն փախստական լինելով՝ անկանէին ի կողմանս Մարաց:

 5:4 And as he implanted in them the word of life, there appeared many miracles that are known to all the people of the district. Evil spirits in various aspects took flight and fell in the regions of the Mark’:

5:5 Նոյնպէս առաւել հոգ ի մտի արկանէր զհամաշխարհականս սփոփելոյ. եւ առաւել աղաւթս մշտնջենամռունչս եւ բազկատարած պաղատանս առ Աստուած եւ արտասուս անդադարս, զմտաւ ածելով զառաքելականն, եւ ասէր հոգալով:

 5:5 He resolved to have greater concern for the consolation of the people of the entire land; therefore, he increased his moaning prayers to God with upraised hands and ceaseless tears, remembering the words of the Apostle who note:

5:6 Տրտմութիւն է ինձ եւ անպակաս ցաւք սրտի իմոյ, վասն եղբարց իմոց եւ ազգականաց»: Եւ այնպէս տրտմական հոգովք պաշարեալ եւ թակարդապատեալ եւ անկեալ ի ծուփս խորհրդոց, եթէ որպիսի՛ արդեաւք ելս իրացն գտանիցէ:

 5:6 I am sorrowful and constant in my heartache for my brethren and my kin.” He was thus surrounded and ensnared with sad worries and engulfed by waves of apprehension as to how he might find a solution to the problem:
