 1:0 What transpired in the land of Armenia after the preaching of the apostle Thaddeus:

1:1 Ի ՔԱՐՈԶՈՒԹԵՆԷՆ Թադէոսի Առաքելոյ եւ նորուն յելից եւ ի մարտիրոսութենէն մինչեւ ի կատարումն վարդապետութեանն Գրիգորի եւ իւրոյ հանգստեանն, եւ յառաքելասպան Սանատրկոյ արքայէն մինչեւ յակամայ հնազանդելն հաւատոցն արքային Տրդատայ եւ ի նորուն հանգիստն, զանցեալ իրացն զառաջնոցն զվարսն լաւացն, եւ որ զնոցուն հակառակ ընդդիմակաց, այն ամենայն ի ձեռն այլոցն գրեցան:

 1:1 Others have written about all of the following: events transpiring from the time of the sermonizing of the Apostle Thaddeus, from the time of his martyrdom to the conclusion of the doctrine of St. Gregory and the latter’s death, and events transpiring from the period of king Sanatruk the Apostle-killer until the unwilling submission of king Trdat to the Christian faith and the latter’s death. Other writers have already described past events regarding the lives of good people of the past, as well as the actions of those adversaries who resisted them:

1:2 Բայց եւ մեք ի մերում աստ եդաք փոքր ի շատէ ի կարգի պատմութեանս, ոչ զանց արարեալ թողաք վասն պատշաճ իրաց կարգին:

 1:2 In our present work, to preserve the proper ordering of events, we too have briefly recorded some of the same events, choosing not to ignore them:

1:3 Վասն զի է ինչ մեր պատմութիւն` որ առաջին է, եւ է ինչ` որ վերջին է. իսկ որ միջին ինչ եղեւ, այն ի ձեռն այլոց գրել գրեցաւ:

 1:3 For there is a part of our history which is the beginning, and a part which is the ending. As for the middle part, that was written by others:

1:4 Բայց զի մի՛ ի միջի մերոյ պատմութեանս ընդհատ երեւեսցի հուն մի, նշանակեցաք. զօր օրինակ աղիւս մի կարգած ի մէջ որմոյն շինուածոյ, ի կատարումն բովանդակութեան:

 1:4 But so that no hiatus would be noticed in the middle of our history, to complete the contents like a brick placed in the wall of a building we recorded:

1:5 Այս ինչ որ ինչ յետ այսորիկ կարգի, աստ պատմի աստէն առ սմին:
